7/4...but leaving early??

HI!
Thanks to the DIS chats we learned about the 7/4 deal and applied for the Disney Visa for our May trip. We've been approved, but are still watching the mail for it to arrive (the mailman here is afraid of me ).
Unfortunately, I already booked our airfare for 5 night stay and - bummer - its nonrefundable. We don't have our park tix yet, just room-only ressies.
Here's my question: If we qualify for the 7/4 can we take it but leave early? (so we don't have to change the air tix?)
I know it sounds CRAZY to leave early, but it looks as if the 7/4 deal and our current plans will cost about the same, but staying the extra nights will cost more for rental car and changing the air tix, meals, etc.
I'd really appreciate all your thoughts! Thanks!

I would check the ticket information for the airfare. Many times they will charge $50 per ticket to change it (never did this myself, but we considered it last year for our trip and this is what we read in the fine print).

It may be worth it to get to spend the extra 2 days at the parks.

I would think it would be problem to leave early as long as you paid for the whole thing, but it would be a shame to waste it.

There is another discussion about flying versus driving and this is another reason I like driving better than flying. You have to book early to fly (and get good rates and good seat assignments), but if you need to change your dates of travel it isn't easy.

You might want to see if the room only DV rate would work out cheaper and then buy park hoppers.

What about just applying the discounted DV room only rates to your current reservation and then buying discounted passes? Check mousesavers.com for discount ticket rates and the discount DV room only rates.

I had the same experience for my upcoming May trip. Once I got approved for the 7/4 deal, I just couldn't leave early. I called the airlines (Southwest) and it turned out the flight was cheaper (I think because of the day we would be flying back) by $234! Only catch was, they wouldn't creidt my card back the difference, would only give my a credit for future use. I took it because my DH and DS are traveling a few months later and can apply the credit to that trip. I would check with your airline because you never know.

I like the airline ideas...I could give them a call when (and if?) we get the 7/4 deal. I think I've done the math about one hundred ways and five nights room-only(DV code) and discounted 3day+1 tix from Ticketmania are about the equilvalent price to the 7/4 stay. The reason I'm even considering taking the 7/4 but leaving early is that the UPH tix are so much better for our family (DS is 4 and resting during the day is sometimes a MUST). Maybe I'll be lucky and not be eligible for the deal?
But if we are...there's no way I'll be able to leave!
