7/30/2011 Mickeys FIRST 7 Night Med cruise

IMPORTANT NEWS STOP PRESS BREAKING NEWS ETC.

Med 2011 changes to 7 nights see updates on main thread.......

My reservation has changed and disappointing...

This is now a 7 night cruise.

That is disppointing. I think that lets us out. We would prefer extending to 14 days. Not shortening it. Unfortunately I think we have no option but to look elsewhere which is sad. I really wanted the type of cruise Disney offered.

It is dissapointing and we even have to change this threads name as the highlight Malta isnt there....

Hmmm...Malta was one of the ports that attracted me because it was a bit different. Tunis was the other. I'm trying to find the main thread to have a look at it. I would rather give the Italian ports a miss personaly and then maybe visit them separately to spend a bit more time in them.

Agreed...

I've just read the last couple of pages of the main thread and am not really impressed. I love the sea days but don't like that they have taken out the best ports. It will be interesting to see what the cost is. I wonder what the reasoning is for it. It seems to me that by shortening it it is just catering to those that live close by. For those travelling from the USA and us from Australia of course, its a long way to travel for a 7 night cruise. Especially for the ports they have left.

Yes this was my first concern when it was mooted that they would go to seven night Med cruises, if they are based with a home port of Barcelona they can get very far, I posted a Map to that effect.

Now Malta, Tunis, and Corsica where the highlights for me, I wasn't planning on much in the other ports, more an 'alternative' to what I did in 07.

My theory is that there really are a lot of people in the US who don't get THAT MUCH vacation leave compared to many other countries. There are many US companies that only give 2 weeks per year until you've worked for them for 10+ years or unless you are an executive of some sort. Therefore, there are a lot of people who only do a 1 week vacation and they use the other 5 days one day at a time to take extended weekends or to attend special events. That's what I used to have to do. We always could only vacation Sat-Sat or Sun-Sun so I could save some leave for other stuff. A year is a long time to go with no extra long weekends thrown in. If you use up both weeks on one trip you've got a long year waiting for it to re-bank. So maybe they're thinking they can pull more US people with the shorter itineraries? I DO KNOW famililes in the US that have done 7 night Med cruises because they're more affordable & use less leave.

The other thing of course is that the shorter itineraries will be cheaper. Maybe not when you compare the cost per night, but the bottom line will be less and many people are making less money now & are afraid to commit to luxury vacations. Personally, our income is down by about 1/3 of what it was 2 years ago. So this trip is a stretch for us even in a Cat 10 - but I am hoping that things will improve over the next 18 months. I really think they're probably just trying to offer some of everything (7, 10 & 11 nights). But it might have worked out BETTER if they'd mixed them up a little and not just split the summer into halves. If they'd had planned it better from the beginning they could've offered 1 of each basically every month.

I and I think many will consider the seven night cruises to Italy a massive disappointment and not worth booking.

10/11 whilst more expensive, were an 'event' and worth booknig flights for, and paying that extra cost, owngoal.

I have to agree. Its a long way to travel from either here or the US and a lot of money for flights. Seven nights with mainly Italian ports or at 'at sea' just doesn't seem to be a draw card.

I understand about not getting the leave for longer trips. It shocked me when we visited the US about the short amount of leave you get there. Maybe we are spoilt here. But its still a lot of money to pay for an short trip by the time you add in flights and everything else.

I am in the UK, now I do know many folks in the USA have smaller breaks, here we have a reasonable amount but limits from work time off, school term time restrictions, etc, means the time for vacation is limited.

I cant move my Med reservation earlier due to school term time, and I had already ( and my wife) put in my holiday leave request for 2011.

The 7 night Med cruises have no appeal at all, very limited, the same old same old ports, not the exciting new ones Malta Tunis etc,

The announcement of the change of this cruise to a seven night cruise to Italy with four ports of call and three days at sea will be next Tuesday 15th December.

Great planning tool, Thank you! I'm sailing 8/27/2011 but we don't have a meet - link yet :( so, I'll be checking out the other posts until we have a group for our cruise. Thanks again!

We're on the 6/8/11 Med cruise, and there's a cruise meet link but no one's on it except for me! So I've been following everyone else's cruise meets until someone signs up for the 6/8/11. Thanks for all the info from everyone!
