Just thought I'd give some thoughts on our recent experience of Legends of Frontierland yesterday.

Pros- The kids (8 and 11) had a lot of fun doing this. They played for a few hours on team Rainbow Ridge. They loved interacting with the CM's and playing High Card in the Golden Horseshoe. They also enjoyed getting "jobs" at the telegraph office and earning bits. My eight year old also ran for mayor, earned a gold nugget, and had "river water".

Cons- It was sort of hard to get started. The CM that signed us up didn't really explain much. We had to visit several locations before we had a decent grasp on the game play. The game itself also didn't seem really fleshed out to me (probably because its new) and was very opened ended. This didn't seem to bother the kids though. I think the game could have benefited from a few more CM characters. The game would have seemed more complete.

Overall it was fun, there were lots of people playing, mostly casually, although there were a few adult guests that were really invested, ie costumes, old west accents...

Anyway, for vacationers with more than 1 or 2 days in the parks, as well as locals and semi locals, I think it's worth playing, especially for elementary kids and preteens. The game definitely brings some life into the old west area of the park.

Google for the recent review of the game in the L.A. Times. They liked it as well, but like you also noted that it was a bit open-ended.

Yes, it sounds like the reviewer really loved it. 5 hours playing?! That would have been way too much for us. I think we played for about 2 hours. As for the game being the so open ended, I think a simple mission at the beginning of the game, such as completing tasks X, Y, and Z before becoming a an "official" member of whatever town you choose, would allow people to play the game and move on if they wanted, with land purchasing competition between the two towns as deeper play. I think something like that would help make the game seem more polished too.
