*8/1 Update: Our Intentions Were Good, But The Treats Were Better: One Month in Disney (4/21-5/21)

I had to break the post up. Something wouldn’t work. 😳
That beef bolognese was on my list! Of course we didn’t make it there. We are going to get there in August!!
I know what you mean about karamel kuche. I’ve had some things from there with high expectations bc I love caramel but was disappointed.
Who is Gaten Matterazzo? Dahlia lounge is so beautiful. We went there for the first time in April. I love how you guys go to different places throughout the day!! That drink looks delicious!

I read you’re last update but for got to go back and reply. 🤪
I think that ham & cheese sandwich is my DH’s go to at Les Halles. The bread just makes it! So good!! A
The bread is the best!
All the salads you get look so delicious but there are just too many unhealthy things at Disney that I’d rather eat on vacation since diets are off the table. 🤣
We really enjoy all the delicious salads but this time didn't really stick to our diets either!
American adventure is one of my favorite shows! I’m such a history fanatic.
I enjoy it much more than DH does. It's his napping spot, lol!

Everything we've tried at Primo Piatto is so good!
I know what you mean about karamel kuche. I’ve had some things from there with high expectations bc I love caramel but was disappointed.
Off the top of my head, we've tried the butter bar, gingerbread sandwich, caramel cupcake, caramel popcorn (it was soggy) and now this pretzel cookie. They were all okay but nothing we'd have to get again.
Who is Gaten Matterazzo?
He's a young adult actor best known for his role as Dustin on Stranger Things (which I actually have never watched). He's been on some TV commercials and most recently was on broadway in Sweeney Todd as Tobias Ragg. I've seen clips of him singing on broadway and he's quite talented.
Dahlia lounge is so beautiful. We went there for the first time in April. I love how you guys go to different places throughout the day!! That drink looks delicious!
This trip was so relaxing. We had a list of things we wanted to do and each day decided which ones we would do. I don't think I stuck with my original plan on any given day except for once the boys visited. It was fun to just go different places.

5/7 Searching for Bakso and Facing My Fears

We only had a few things we wanted to accomplish at Animal Kingdom. Mostly, we wanted to try to see the elusive baby tiger, Bakso.

We arrived fifteen minutes after park opening and headed for breakfast at Satuli Canteen. I hate to be boring so I almost tried something new. But, I just can’t pass on the Tropical Pandoran Forest Fruits: with Fresh Yogurt, Muesli, and Agave

This is consistently fabulous. This is another must-get meal for us!

After our meal we stopped by Discovery Island to see if the birds were more photogenic this time for Winged Encounters. They were!

Can you find the three red macaws in this photo?

After seeing the beautiful birds flying around the Tree of Life, we headed to the Maharajah Jungle Trek in search of baby Bakso. We stopped first to admire the fruit bats. I love watching them walk with their wings.

Our persistence paid off and we were able to see Baby Bakso and his mama.

This was the most active we have ever seen the tigers on the Maharajah Jungle Trek! Such amazing creatures.

We love watching the Feathered Friends in Flight, so we headed there next. DH wanted to see if we could get picked to have the African Trumpeter Hornbill fly through our arms to demonstrate the flight through the trees.

True confession time: I don’t fear too many things. I’m fine with heights, bugs, snakes, etc. My only real fear is flying birds. I love to see them at a distance but I cringe whenever they’re up close. I didn’t know if I could handle having the hornbill fly through my arms but being the loving wife that I am, I agreed to sit in the center and volunteer with DH.

We were actually picked and I survived! I even kept my eyes open! It was really cool to watch the hornbill fly through our arms. I’m glad DH suggested it and that I didn’t let my fears get in the way.

After my fearless adventure at Feathered Friends in Flight, I needed a treat. We picked up our favorite frozen concoction at the Warung Outpost, the Shangri-La Berry Freeze.

AD_4nXdmQit2YQeBcFE0qHiqWcM03aQrBoMLPSFib0M_I_LxZM3wDarv8zQ0ntuJwxT17QW_SNOmlXz0GX66lAq7xERKGtnJQElOu50mYaHq8RC4b6pVeUsl3hf-7aU2nulifYizfU3P

This is so refreshing with lots of delicious fresh strawberry flavor. It doesn’t taste at all artificial.

DH had his own scavenger hunt going on our trip. He was trying to see if he could find the Club 33 entrances in each park. After our drink, he found the one in Animal Kingdom in Harambe Village but couldn’t get an upclose picture. We believe it is located at the Harambe House.

AD_4nXf_JSVPy3PG3oTGB_cw9AEraFyjPKzRZ9ju_XR-iwiQc_XlCzpI4f7ebkK8GL2LVwM4MMGmQdGC_9ZLyGF-ybGBCpk4U_jD9xSRJfAsAs4je4gA5swKobRUBOk3Z-u_-Qt8ha-SFw

We only had one more thing to accomplish on our Animal Kingdom bucket list for the day, we wanted to see if we could find DiVine. We searched for her as we made our way out of the park.

We found her!

AD_4nXcZHK8XIPCrTc68jnr9t8udb9f7xN4m7N1esnZ6wmMu3And3mw68me0mfApvAjjwlR2b29VixIzk9dk-K71OAavg2lxQ71MsV2Jkg6-_pGkt4GvLeySxvcMOm9rafVpHdUZ18htkg

It was very cool to see her move through the trees. I overheard a conversation between some people as they rushed into the park: “what are those people possibly taking pictures of?” “No idea, but must be something”....and they continued on into the park. We loved the luxury of being able to stop and take in details such as this.

It was time for lunch so we decided to find something to eat at Disney Springs.

Up next, trying an old favorite at Disney Springs, was it as good as we remembered?

Yippie, another new update! I’m just loving your informative, entertaining, and super fun trip report! Your pics are awesome! Loved the tiger pics. Baby Bakso is so adorable! And those pics of the French Onion Soup at Boatwrights? To die for! So many delicious photos! 😋

Aha! So the Buckaroo Bread was yummy enough to earn avatar status! I think I’ll have to make a list of your A list goodies. And probably your B’s too.

That Sunday before mass, it’s almost as if that fish, who, at first glance anyway, seemed to be levitating over the pond before it’s inevitable demise, was trying to warn you that this Sunday at church, was going to be no less unpleasant than the week before. 🤪
I’ll tell you, after people kept piling into the pew, my claustrophobia would have kicked in big time and I’d have to climb over everyone and find an aisle seat. You were brave to have stayed put. 🙂

I’m also so impressed with all the walking you’re both doing! You didn’t have to do all that walking between POR and POFQ, but ya did anyway! :thumbsup2

Thanks for sharing!

From Les Halles we got the Jambon de Beurre: Ham and Cheese, Dijon Mustard Butter on a Demi Baguette and we asked them to toast it.
We love that. It's a perfect sandwich to split!

DH wanted a refillable soda so we decided to buy a sandwich from Les Halles then head to Sunshine Seasons for salad, drinks, dessert, and seating.
Wow, that's super genius, but also super far away! You are earning every one of those cookies!

This was excellent as always! Sunshine Seasons maintained its A- rating.
Love it there too! And having the refillable soda thing is really nice. I can't remember if I asked you this but if you are peanut butter people there is a peanut butter whoopee pie there that is so delicious.

I looked over and it was Gaten Matterazzo and his girlfriend, Lizzy Yu. I was familiar with him but not her.
:confused3 I had to look them both up...not sure I would have even known they were celebrities if I saw them in person.

Total steps: 26,604
I was waiting for that count! I kept thinking, "they are at the front, now the back of EPCOT, then to the car and back in and heading to the back again!" I'm exhausted just reading it! Good for you!

I just can’t pass on the Tropical Pandoran Forest Fruits: with Fresh Yogurt, Muesli, and Agave
You have definitely influenced me. This will be on my list for October.

Don't worry at the end of this report I will provide a summarized list of everything with all the ratings. You can screenshot it for a handy list for your next trip and yes the Buckaroo Bread is one of the top treats!
That Sunday before mass, it’s almost as if that fish, who, at first glance anyway, seemed to be levitating over the pond before it’s inevitable demise, was trying to warn you that this Sunday at church, was going to be no less unpleasant than the week before. 🤪
Mother nature was definitely sending me some warnings, haha!
I’ll tell you, after people kept piling into the pew, my claustrophobia would have kicked in big time and I’d have to climb over everyone and find an aisle seat. You were brave to have stayed put. 🙂
I am a little claustrophobic myself (I guess that would be my only other "fear") and I was definitely feeling it during that mass. It took a lot of deep breathing to stay put (just like the week before).
I’m also so impressed with all the walking you’re both doing! You didn’t have to do all that walking between POR and POFQ, but ya did anyway! :thumbsup2

We love walking. It's part of why we love Disney. There's so many interesting places to walk (that and the cookies, haha). We actually go for a 3 mile walk every day at home but that's not nearly as exciting. It's so easy to get our steps in at Disney! At the end of my report I will tell you our total mileage and it's hard to believe!

We love that. It's a perfect sandwich to split!

We needed to burn off those cookies!
Love it there too! And having the refillable soda thing is really nice. I can't remember if I asked you this but if you are peanut butter people there is a peanut butter whoopee pie there that is so delicious.
We've tried that before and we are definitely peanut butter people. It is really good!
:confused3 I had to look them both up...not sure I would have even known they were celebrities if I saw them in person.
Apparently no one else knew either because I didn't see anyone try to interact with them, which I'm sure is nice for them to just hang in the parks like us "regular" people...I was pretty sure it was him and then when I looked up if he had a girlfriend and saw her photo I knew it was them.
I was waiting for that count! I kept thinking, "they are at the front, now the back of EPCOT, then to the car and back in and heading to the back again!" I'm exhausted just reading it! Good for you!
Ha! It was not our highest count, either! There are actually three days coming up that are even higher.
You have definitely influenced me. This will be on my list for October.
I hope you like it! It's on our list again for October as well.
It was. I really didn't know if I would have to close my eyes. So glad we did it! I wish I had handed someone my phone for a photo!

5/7 continued Trying an Old Favorite and Some New Stuff, Too

One of our favorite places for a quick lunch at Disney Springs has always been Earl of Sandwich. We’d been so busy trying new places though that we actually hadn’t dined there since April of 2022. We agreed it was time to get an old favorite, the Holiday Turkey Sandwich: Turkey, cornbread stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce & mayonnaise

AD_4nXdEM12UWjUEFiV6kfmO5AgAVu8sORYWTe59ZCrbRFdOV3a3saEuqhf3MK_h-JU2El-KHA2k57MnQjf2JhJRa1207N_Dw6xALtD88hXrxTO5WKBG6aZPoFy-0P2kXN_TLjO-ZlU6kQ

This is how our sandwich looked upon unwrapping. It was a soggy mess with very little turkey or stuffing. We were both very disappointed. It was nothing like we remembered. It wasn’t good.

We also shared the Cuban Sandwich: Tender carnitas, ham, Swiss, pickles & Cuban mustard sauce

AD_4nXcGKMXcL_Z1GqR2nb51nAAkqPnmiH1dQBnxhb7X7k_BupZKjtbUEY63jAqyzCLx2uSdqpsKWczFMPPAhQhMVEfX88rqhcea9sRQUuF2ltZiNK1jY9Kqg6uXJu5eQgy3gGbNIRCP4A

This was better than the Holiday Turkey sandwich but nothing special. We both agreed the Cuban from the Centertown Market at CBR was better actually. That one seemed to have more flavor, better bread, and better meat.

On top of the sandwiches not being as good, we always used to get a combo meal with delicious potato wedges. See photo from April 2022 as proof:

AD_4nXeE74dv5ReKY7jsw26afa0MSIakyNXyXVaLszu2029jne6vIwtShthTHA79QU3AjnTDtxTHegYHTQ0XMJAOeQkdK5fyB2hn68OzIevyHqyNTS3Q3R_trhE4eAUbh-bFzZ4Kx-sE

The sandwich looks a lot better in that photo too!

The combo meals now offer a choice of only potato chips or a cookie. The potato wedges are no longer even on the menu at all. We chose the cookie, thinking we could get one of the delicious looking cookies they had on display but we found out that we could only get a pre-packaged chocolate chip or sugar cookie. We opted for chocolate chip, of course.

Here is our sad chocolate chip cookie as part of our combo meal:

AD_4nXcxky2tH9iZE1TS3k67gPR_nJqx6k5-feXu03Sncr1ZVcTL2ZhlhBZWp96fvl8XFp-RLNN7c2r363oABPvVY2iTGRjn7RzpoCZ9t1aFOA7HzY43Qu1EeOwA8kPmuLoXiPDSE35Y6w

This tasted exactly as you would expect a pre-packaged chocolate chip cookie from a vending machine to taste. The cookie, sadly though, was the best part of our meal. We gave the cookie a C+. Overall our Earl of Sandwich meal only garnered a C. I think it will be a very long time before we give Earl of Sandwich another try. There are too many other great places to eat at Disney Springs.

After lunch, we walked around Disney Springs and checked the line at Gideon’s. Surprisingly this whole trip there never seemed to be much of a line at all. We never saw the line long enough to warrant a virtual queue. I don’t know if Summerhouse on the Lake’s Cookie Bar has lessened the demand or maybe people just aren’t as willing to wait in a huge line for cookies as they used to be. (Looking back on this trip, it’s hard to believe that we were 16 days into our trip before we ordered something from Gideon’s.) Since there was a minimal wait we picked up a slice of the Chocolate Churro Cake to save for dessert after dinner, a bag of banana chip cookie bites, and also a Pistachio Toffee Chocolate Chip cookie. Of all the “everyday” offerings of Gideon’s cookies, this is the only flavor we hadn’t tried yet.

After securing our treats for later we headed back to the hotel for laundry day. We had packed enough clothing to only have to do laundry one time and this was unfortunately the day. As we waited for our laundry, we heated up the Pistachio Toffee Chocolate Chip Cookie in our microwave.

AD_4nXdRKrXLSgKHHb_tri2Ctos_J0F01SLvm3hyXOFcZQziPar8QTun3Np0jWAbwG6NLjYAGtQESvohGXeR06rdRlQSRgj0P6j7SviukVcygD3pk-CLIOSNbtAaAxL2IPZOKouXgSH-1g

Well, folks, we have a new winner! Wow! We couldn’t believe how delicious this cookie was! We had avoided this one because we weren’t sure we would like pistachios in our cookies. This was not only the best Gideon’s cookie we’ve tried but it rocketed its way to the number one spot on our cookie stroll, just slightly edging out the Riviera Cookie. A+!

After our laundry finished we made our way to the Animal Kingdom Lodge for another quick service dinner. We wandered around aimlessly trying to find the entrance to the Mara. Despite having eaten there as recently as December we still had trouble finding the restaurant. I’m not sure I could find it again if we went tomorrow. We did eventually find our way there and decided to share the Harissa-Spiced Beef Bowl: Braised Beef Stew, Pilau Rice, Kale Slaw, Cucumber-Tomato Salad, and Avocado Tahini Sauce

AD_4nXeN1udal7UG_z91EzQ8Bvu5ZKsb-B9KkGVUZxR-EnW2lr0C04hRyPADIdiWSvJF4sBMnQpaFBdelgxFejRMo_c9LEyTGDd0_vW7aiauwP9BNLnlhITDkNVwVDpD7NV0XQR7OvKa2w

This was quite good. It had lots of excellent seasoning and was a great combination of textures. It was a little small for two people to share for dinner so next time we probably will each get our own. We gave our meal a B+.

We wanted to walk around to see some of the animals on the savannah but it was raining so we headed back to the hotel for dessert, the Chocolate Churro Cake from Gideon’s:

AD_4nXeBIWQOTDBGNWb5tZEKzxZJuFwIjH_ioTS4fCxc43jaQTNGXi_R1fxbgLb-HQXQLoMydDclajo3VZt7_tVk8AeEUF2lshSDVSOCoRKZd8pToPlOCOrZ_ZWadk5Q0-F3IhgMMOvr

This was good, not great. DH liked it better than I did. The churro cinnamon is a little spicy for my tastes. I much prefer Gideon’s Chocolate Crumb Cake (formerly Pipistrello’s cake). The cinnamon is much sweeter in that cake. We feel like the cake slices have a little less cake than they used to, so we don’t love them as much as we once did. We gave this cake a B+.

Overall, it was another wonderfully paced day of enjoying the sites and the food.

I totally get the flying bird fear. I wish you had a picture of your fearless act!
Bakso is so cute and yes wow what a lot of tiger activity. I’m lucky to see one in a corner or something.
That strawberry frozen concoction does look very refreshing!
It’s so funny when you see something and other people don’t! 🤣

My all time favorite cookie is the Gideon’s pistachio toffee one😍
I haven’t had it the last few trips and when I saw your picture my mouth was watering haha 😂 I will need to make a trip to The Bakehouse on my next trip!
Andi loves the chocolate chip and cookies n cream one.
Sorry to hear Earl’s sandwiches have gone down hill like so many things nowadays!

I do regret not getting a photo. I'm sure someone near us would've been happy to take it with my phone.

That's what we usually see too..one tiger sleeping somewhere. This is only the second time we've found them active.

It is! I'm sure I've been one of those people who missed stuff too when we were theme park commandos when the kids were young!

It was your glowing recommendation that made me try it! You still have never steered me wrong!

We should try the chocolate chip and cookies n cream ones again. We haven't had those in a while.
Sorry to hear Earl’s sandwiches have gone down hill like so many things nowadays!
It was super busy so maybe it was just the rushed kitchen that made the sandwiches come out bad but it definitely felt like they had cut back on both the quality and quantity of ingredients. We would much rather go to Polite Pig, D-Luxe Burger or even Pizza Ponte for quick service at Disney Springs.

5/8 Finding a New Way to Magic Kingdom & Trying a New to Us Lunch Spot

Our plan this morning was to head into Magic Kingdom, mostly to get a Gaston’s Cinnamon roll, and ride a couple attractions. We experimented to see if there was a better way to get from the TTC to the Magic Kingdom. The ferry takes so long and the monorail often is crowded and smelly. Since we weren’t on a tight schedule, we decided to see how long it would take us to walk there to MK from the TTC. We walked over to the Poly and then from there to the Grand Floridian. On our way we saw Cinderella’s royal carriage waiting for a bride at the wedding pavilion.

AD_4nXdzb16KmR4XRsHp0HiLhb6FLiG_iwuGxwDeYKvf-OJA0Dfzsul1f6OpecBya95lvwB1H166DX3jQzvfSX-65Y7jY4DtJXYHkKnxnlh2S9P1zVVs-Qc8LA4NpTf2jYidZ-dgz8gfLw

So beautiful!

Our walk took us 48 minutes from our car in the TTC to the tapstiles, not too bad! Once we entered the park, we headed to ride Pirates. There was a posted 10 minute wait, we were on in 12 minutes. We had hoped to do the Pirate’s Adventures - Treasures of the Seven Seas scavenger hunt but didn’t realize it’s only available at specific times. There was a sign that said noon to 6:00 so we were too early. Unable to search for pirate’s treasure, we decided to go get a different kind of treasure at Gaston’s Tavern: The Warm Cinnamon Roll.

AD_4nXeIx-napZuDdm5pRm2eY7x7T3CR0BvRxQtNDvtEIzqH49geCaY-fDVVF5L1XDsFo9fv_7lAk6NG3Bb7yCd99_WglMxXz9oH-uLni8aH1ko88gS5qGdfSACjzlIKJOAwv4PzkiniZw

My original plan was to wait until our sons’ portion of the trip but we felt it was essential to make sure they were still good before our sons arrived. Yep, still warm and soft with lots of cinnamon, maple glaze and vanilla icing. Glad we verified that for the boys’ sake.

Since we were in the area, once again we ventured Under the Sea with the Little Mermaid. The posted wait was 15 but it took us 19. This trip it seemed like we waited much longer for Under the Sea than usual. In the past it was always a walk on.

We walked over to Tomorrowland and took a spin on the People Mover before heading out to the resort boat launch. We took the boat over to the Wilderness Lodge to try Geyser Point for the first time.

Once at Geyser Point, we joined the walk up waitlist. Our estimated wait was 10 minutes. It took 1 minute for us to be called. In the middle of the day on a Thursday the lounge was practically empty. Despite that, for some reason the host seated us in the back, behind the bar, away from the beautiful view. It seemed that’s where they seat parties of two even though there were plenty of empty tables along the water side. We probably should’ve spoken up and asked for a better table but we didn’t.

Our plan was to share two entrees. First, the Multigrain Salad with Chicken: Mixed Greens, Quinoa, Apples, Goat Cheese, Golden Raisins, Candied Walnuts, Apple Cider Vinaigrette

AD_4nXeC8yizJTZC1u-V8m-3ilyq7CirkuSek0qnjMcva2mVvgA9YkyqfV6xyPDONpBZezn4D68bDkSVSLFp7JZ19VmD3sYv7bK3Dffuqr6wkNEJRVrPPix4QfQYqbBzrkPpicwIl1862g

This actually sounded and looked better than it was. The chicken was kinda dry and flavorless. In fact, despite all the ingredients, it really lacked flavor. It was mostly a bowl of mixed greens. It’s funny, a few weeks after we got home I watched a vlogger review Geyser Point and she got the salad. Her reaction was exactly what ours was. The salad was fine but lacking flavor. She even said “it’s mostly a bowl of mixed greens.”

We also shared the Turkey BLT Sandwich: Black Pepper Turkey, Candied Bacon, Avocado Purée

AD_4nXfnGEyOAJ7Bu4CDIwxIOvn5xus_XtvXurQnKVC51lOTCvaNYAnif_NkwtriQG8E_lxl_4TMRL6XMW1NsND5UTnKCE5RGXjpK5XZMCOIYtUaavBPL_mQSWYRlJoirTniwvm-gzL_

This was a huge improvement over the turkey sandwich from Earl of Sandwich. The turkey was very fresh, as was the multigrain bread. The bacon was well cooked. The chips were very good as well. Our only issue was that it was a bit too peppery for our tastes, but that’s a personal preference. Of the two entrees this one was better.

We gave our meal a B, which was really an average of a C for the salad and an A for the sandwich. I can’t help but wonder if we had a better table if we maybe would’ve liked it even more. We did enjoy watching the "wildlife clean up crew" as people left their tables. The birds would swoop in and there was a sneaky squirrel trying to steal a bite.

We explored Boulder Ridge and the Wilderness Lodge after our meal. It is such a beautiful resort. We hope to stay there one day.

After exploring a bit, we took the boat back to the Magic Kingdom and the monorail to the TTC. We headed back to our hotel for a bit to get ready for dinner. For our “lunch dessert” we each had one of the Gideon’s Banana Chip Cookie Bites we had purchased the day before.

We really like the added chocolate coating on the Gideon’s Bites. Even though we really like the banana chip cookie, this wasn’t our favorite Gideon Bite. We gave it a B.

Up next..another new to us restaurant for dinner.

I loved that Thanksgiving sandwich at Earl’s. Wow I really can’t even remember the last time we ate there. I think the boys were little. So many things that were good have gone downhill…so sad and to take away fries??!! How dare they!!

I love pistachios so I am all over that cookie. But I would need to eat it myself bc of the nuts.

That lunch at Mara looks really good too! Just curious, so when you get to the guard at resort it’s ok that you’re just doing QS? I guess bc it’s not the Poly or CR they’re not as strict with parking. Or did you take a bus?

It should be illegal to take away fries!

Definitely get that cookie. Even better that you don't have to share! I hear there's also a new Dubai chocolate cookie at Summerhouse's Cookie Bar that I'm eager to try next time, now that I know I like pistachios in cookies.

We told the guard we wanted to get dinner at the Mara and he let us in. We actually had three days in a row going through the guards station at Animal Kingdom Lodge. I was wondering if they were going to start recognizing us, lol. We park at HS for the skyliner resorts/Boardwalk area and the TTC for the monorail resorts, Fort Wilderness & Wilderness Lodge. So far, everywhere else just lets us in when we say we want to eat at the quick service.

That was my dream wedding but of course way out of our budget!

Glad you taste tested the cinnamon roll first. That are yummy and perfect to share.

We loved Geyser Point!! We sat at the bar to guarantee a good view. I told DH I didn’t want to get stuck behind the bar. Haha We actually sat on the water side of bar so I could just sit sideways and look at water. Next time just do that if they seat you there again. It was practically empty the both times we were there. It is a hidden gem! There’s someone on the what’s for dinner thread that goes to GP every time she’s at MK.

WL was so beautiful!! This was the view from our room and from the bar. IMG_5622.jpegIMG_5653.jpegI love the stealth squirrel! We had ducks with puppy dog eyes when we were there. Haha

The first time we ate there for lunch we shared the bison meatball and shrimp on a wire. Both were excellent! The next time DH got the steak sandwich he said was really good and I got the crab cake which was just ok. I see us stopping there for lunch during MK days in our future.

I hope you get to stay there soon! The AP discount was really good.

I can't even imagine what that costs but I know it would've been way out of our budget too!

They definitely are!

We should've sat at the bar for sure, next time...

Such beautiful views!

He was so funny crouching down every time someone walked by.

Definitely a great MK lunch spot. That steak sandwich looks really good.

Someday....

5/8 continued Dinner at the Maya Grill

Since we are big fans of Tex Mex food, we made an ADR for the Maya Grill at the Coronado Springs Resort. It seems like you don’t hear too much about this restaurant so we weren’t sure what to expect.

The restaurant itself is very pretty but not too large. I thought I had taken a photo of the restaurant but I guess I didn’t. There was a guitarist playing Spanish versions of Disney songs and other music. He was very good and added to the nice atmosphere.

We started with an order of chips and queso.

The chips were freshly made and nicely salted. The salsa and queso were excellent, nearly identical to those served at the San Angel Inn in Epcot.

We shared two entrees. First, the Vegetarian Huarache: A delightful vegetarian dish featuring an heirloom yellow corn huarache, topped with black beans, sautéed seasonal vegetables, salsa verde, and crumbled queso fresco, finished with a dollop of sour cream.

This was excellent. The vegetables which consisted of peppers, mushrooms, onions and corn were perfectly roasted and there was a lot of melty cheese all topped on the cornbread crust. We liked this even more than the one we had at Pecos Bills in December (and spoiler alert: it was better than the one we tried at San Angel Inn later).

We also ordered the Chicken Enchiladas: Shredded chicken Tinga wrapped in corn tortilla topped with salsa Verde, topped with house made cheese, garnished with sour cream, cotija cheese, and crispy fried onions over a bed of refried beans. Served with a side of sweet plantains topped with Mexican crema and cotija cheese.

This too was very good but very similar to the San Angel Inn.

Overall we were very pleased with our meal at the Maya Grill. It definitely was on par with the San Angel Inn but not as good as Frontera Cocina. We gave our dinner a B. We would go here again but probably more likely to go to Frontera Cocina for our Tex Mex cravings.

After our meal we walked around Coronado Springs before heading back to our hotel.

Total Steps: 19549

Up next…one last day before our sons join us, trying a Flamingo Crossing restaurant for lunch.

We do like Mexican, but don’t really go out of our way to have it. All of your food does look very good though. I did enjoy San Angel inn when we dined there.
Have you tried Fiesta in Somerset? They have other locations too but can’t remember where. It’s owned by a family from Mexico and the food and margaritas (of course) are good.
I just ordered a 3 Cabelleros shirt that says Margaritas Por Favor! To wear on my Epcot day. 🤣

No we haven't tried Fiesta. We used to go to Sam Diego's in Plymouth but that's closed and we used to like El Mariachi in Taunton but didn't have a great experience the last time we went so DH doesn't want to go there. We'll have to check out Fiesta! We have eaten at Pancheros recently and Jersey Mikes. That's the extent so far of our dining in Somerset. I think we need to branch out!

Love it!
