I got bored on my trip this past weekend and started listening to the podcasts again from the beginning. On the first show Pete starts the show by saying that he is filling in for Gordon McAdams and Nancy Quill while both are on vacation and then introduces Bob, Corey, and Ricky. The next show (8/1/08) Pete introduces the roundtable which now include John and Kevin. And the rest is history as we know it.

So, who are Gordon McAdams and Nancy Quill? And why are they still on vacation? :confused3 I've never heard them mentioned ever again. Makes you say "hmmmm" and my inquiring mind wants to know. Anybody know? (You should have seen me yelling "who the heck are these people" at my ipod while I was driving.) :rotfl2:

I've listened to the show since its inception and let me tell ya, in the beginning it was VERY hard to keep coming back. I'm am SO thankful (in fact, I'm still using it for "what are you thankful for" when we go around the table during our Thanksgiving dinner) that Nancy and Gordon decided to stay on vacation (bless their little hearts!). Nowadays, I plan my weeks (and my vacations - the podcast cruise!) around what the roundtable is doing! I'm just so glad Pete decided he wanted to do a podcast in the first place!!! Great topic Tonya - thanks for bringing it up!! :thumbsup2

If my memory serves me right, they were radio DJ's from the Boston area. I too remember the early podcasts. They were very different from what we love now. It was a podcast that was very "buttoned up", and very professional. It was also devoid of personality. I think what makes the current version so much more enjoyable is that when I listen now I am spending my time with friends. I also think the podcast board has made a huge difference as well.

I've heard that show and wondered about Nancy and Gordon too. Was Pete on the show with them? Were they hired by Pete to do the show and then Pete decided he could do it himself? Was the show done from Boston?

Don't hold me to this, but I think I remember Pete briefly discussing this on the 10th Anniversary show.

Nancy and Gordon were both hired to record the podcast.

This format was not very popular and Pete made the decision to change it.

The rest as they say....is history.

I thought that also. So, I listened to the anniversary show before I posted but it wasn't on that show. Pete does mention that he tells the history of the DIS on some shows leading up to the anniversary show which I haven't listened to yet.

Thanks Kevin! Are those Nancy and Gordon shows available to listen to or were they shelved in hopes that they were long forgotten?

I did google Nancy Quill and wdwinfo this morning and a press release turned up. http://www.prweb.com/releases/2006/6/prweb398634.htm (Gordon McAdams must be the redheaded stepchild of the show because he is not mentioned anywhere and didn't turn up any google results.)

I remember listening to the original podcast a long time ago. My reaction was that it was very different than the freewheeling discussion on the boards. I wandered away and rediscovered the podcast last summer. I'm glad Peter changed the format, no disrespect to Nancy or Gordon intended.

The first incarnation of the Podcast was a more 'buttoned up' news-type show. Pete hired Nancy and Gordon to record the news, some content that was provided to them and the intros to other segments. He wanted some professional on-air talent at that time. They both have really great voices and were terrific to work with.

Their were some 'articles' or segments that were recorded by some of the current podcast folks that were then editited into that format.

When Gordon and Nancy went on vacation one week and could not record Pete tried a different format. The response to that format (from both inside and outside the team) was such that Pete decided to introduce the roundtable format.

Even that has changed and morphed some since we started.

If the sound they were going for was "buttoned up", they nailed it. No disrespect to Nancy and Gordon because they were just doing the job they were told to do. But for what it is worth, I'm glad it changed. I did enjoy Kevin's report of his backstage tour on the old show though :) That is still on my list of things to do.

So I guess that means that they they are on a 'permanent" vacation. I hope they are having fun and doing well!
