As an FYI, the story about Walt buying Lillian the petrified redwood tree is included in the book Walt Disney's Disneyland by Marty Sklar. I recently read this book in preparation for my first trip to DLR in December 2010, and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to learn more about the beginnings of Disneyland.
As a side note, this is an older book and may be hard to obtain. I would recommend anyone interested in borrowing a copy ask their local library if they offer inter-library loan (ILL) services. ILL will allow you to borrow a book from a distant library through you local library. As a Florida resident, most of my local library books about Disney are restricted to WDW. However, through ILL I have been able to read numerous, sometimes out of print, books about Disneyland.
I only started listening to the podcast this past May in preparation for my first DLR trip, but I have gone back and listened to all of the old podcasts (up until May 2008 so far). I know on one of those older shows that there was a DISer who wrote/called in talking about how their local library didn't have The Complete Walt Disney World by Julie and Mike Neal (recommended by the podcast team). I recently requested this book through ILL, and it is on its way to me as we speak. Next to the DISboards, I can't think of another resource that has been more helpful to me than my library in feeding my recently revived interest in Disney.
I hope this helps some fellow DISers out there!
