Andrew,

I'm curious whether you would recommend a quaint/interesting place to spend the night between London and Dover the night before the cruise departs? We get into Heathrow the Sat morning before the cruise after flying all night from NY. I'm a little concerned that the family will be too tired to make much of 1 night in London. (We have a couple there on the back end).

I have been pondering making our way towards Dover as soon as we arrive and getting most of the travel out of the way. However, there doesn't appear to be too much in the way of accommodations in Dover. Any thoughts?

Rob

(P.S., speaking for this lurker - Glad you're back!)

My first thought on this was Canterbury, so I googled Kent on the maps and still its Canterbury. Its a great place to stay and look around and not that far from Dover, and as easy connections on the trains etc.

I would expect there to be plenty of accomodations there.

Canterbury Cathedral in Canterbury, Kent, is one of the oldest and most famous Christian structures in England and forms part of a World Heritage Site. It is the cathedral of the Archbishop of Canterbury, leader of the Church of England and symbolic leader of the worldwide Anglican Communion. Its formal title is the Cathedral and Metropolitical Church of Christ at Canterbury. The Museum of Canterbury is a museum in Stour Street, Canterbury, telling the history of the city. It contains a gallery on Rupert the Bear, whose creator Mary Tourtel lived in the city. The Rupert Bear Museum is also the current home of Bagpuss and there is a display of the Clangers which contains many original pieces.

This would be the majority of the travel out of the way but also a great place to look aorund its a good base, if its sunny you can get to some British seaside places such as Margate, Ramsgate, deal, Whitstable etc.

It would probably help if I didn't stay up until after midnight every night :thumbsup2

It might be time for you to seek some professional help!:rotfl2:

That's ok. Your shirt will do nicely thanks! :laundy:

Doctor Robert was offering me 'men tablets' last night, (and suggesting other stuff to get a high), now professional advice and even tissues, next an online pharmacy is coming, to 'support' the cost of Baltic!!! ;)

aloha,
Does anyone know of a good place to have afternoon tea in London? Preferably near the Westminister Bridge Hotel. I would love to take wife to one.

Have not seen the New Doctor yet!:hourglasspopcorn:::happytv:

Yes, we had the first one last Saturday, it was actually very good, if you took out David Tenant, as a Doctor, it would have been excellent, but Matt has to follow DT, and as DT was so so good its an impossible act to follow.

But Amy, well Amy, chaps, or shall I call her..............
