It's the EU they are not part of . . . Of course geographically they are both part of the Eurasian super-continent . . .

When I did the Med before, the ship did add VAT -- but I was too busy buying things off the ship to do too much purchasing on the ship:goodvibes Once we were on the transAtlantic, VAT was not longer added since we were ending up in the US. On the Med, there were envelopes in the cabin to save receipts and a big letter explaining how to get VAT back from the ship.

I have only bothered to get the VAT refund when I purchased expensive items in europe Jewalry in Florence & a Bedroom set in Sorrento, when I was on the Med cruise my largest expense were the shore excursions & the booze, came close to buying colorful china set in Ravello but the wife said NO!

They are not part of the European Union. I think Russia would be mighty pi**ed if you called it European :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

We have all learned something just because I brought up the VAT and you brought up the Europe question. I didn't realize it only had to do with the EU, I just knew we didn't have the VAT added to onboard purchases and I was happy with that.

***Now back to regularly scheduled 'chat' that was interrupted with a financial and geographical lesson. :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

Have a great weekend everyone. I'm heading out this afternoon to see ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo :goofy: :figment: and whatever other friends we can find.
Be good.

There are a lot of places online that can help and are free or low cost. I have Caro's father's side back to the early 1600's in Scotland and my mother's father's side to 1508 in Wiltshire England.

Andrew, if you are not busy I have family ties that are begging to be found!:lmao:

Wow, the porters must have cringed when they saw you coming!!:scared1: :scared1: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

For anyone interested, this is from Harole Ann. It's the link to Garry Harper's obituary. Sorry to be maudlin, but I thought you might enjoy reading about his life. He was such a nice man and very much in love with Harole Ann (a real sweetie).

We also got VAT back on our purchases in Barcelona. The office was tucked in a corner of the airport by arrivals!!!! If we didn't have so much time to kill and were determined to find it, you'd walk right past it. I think it was a small amount anyway, but we did do it. We didn't make many purchases on the ship. Can't remember exactly, but I remember going down to the front desk and they tallied everything for us and then we redeemed it at the airport.
