The Parkwood hotel does not have airconditioning which concerned me as July is very hot here (90+). But DH assured me that you folks don't usually see such high temps in the summer. The hotel does have fans available which should be enough to make it tolerable for sleeping if it does get hot.

Sooo...how hot does it get in London in July:confused3
The reviews on the Parkwood hotel are very good-no one else seems to miss the ac.

Well, average temps are around 22/70, but it can reach upto 30/90. Central London tends to be warmer because it is so built up, extra pollution etc. We don't have a/c (not sure that many domestic houses do) & fans are sufficient for the odd few days it is that warm, so I'd not worry too much. If your room faces the afternoon sun, close your curtains (drapes) before yyou leave in the morning to help keep the room cool

Apologies for posting on your thread. My DH and I have just returned from a 12 day RCCL cruise to Scandinavia and Russia. He had a fantastic time and learnt lots.

Here's a link to my trippee and if you have any questions...please ask away.

No apologies necessary-all our welcome here:goodvibes
Love your trip report:thumbsup2

So it looks like we'll need plenty of warm clothes for our trip next July, no?
What do you recommend packing?

How did Rose have her purse stolen ? Any advice on how to avoid that?
What were your favorite souveniers ?

OK, so DH asked at work about those of you not a traditional 2+2. Recommendations include the Novotel Waterloo who do rooms with an interconnecting door, and if anyone is staying for a week prior to the cruise renting an apartment. As & when he gets any other suggestions I'll post them on

Doing a bit of precruise reading- both the Norwegian & Estonian tourist boards sent me brochures & maps snail mail

Have fun and share when you return, Julie!!!:goodvibes

I checked Novotel is not inexpensive.

Thanks so much to all for the great links. Is there any way we can add them to the first page. My head is spinning with all the fabulous info!!!!!!

Does anyone know what hotels DCL is booking precruise stays at?

If you are a government worker ask if they have a government rate. When we stay over we have cap limits we have to be below for B&B & we can get Novotel reasonable prices on a rate. Most the time they do not ask for anything on arrival either. I guess as soon as you look at 2 rooms in effect you are doubling the price

This is OT, but I'm heading over to Ireland for an Adventures by Disney tour in July and wonder if anyone knows much about Ireland in July.

I will be in Portugal prior, so I'm using Ryan air and want to pack as little as possible. I know it can be rainy, but I was hoping only to take one pair of jeans and one long sleeved t-shirt, plus a few pairs of shorts and t-shirts and wonder if that's unrealistic.

Ugh. I hate packing. Well, I hate deciding what to pack. The packing is easy...

Celestine, does this count if you are a goverment worker outside of the UK?

I was in Dublin and Belfast in August and I wore pants and a lite jacket the whole time. I am ALWAYS warm and there is definitely a chill in the air.

Do you recommend more pants? And what about t-shirts? Did you need sweaters or were t-shirts with jackets enough?

Evening all,

Whilst I havent been to the Baltic before, living in the UK and traveling around Europe, I would say prepare for anything, you cannot predict our weather bar Winter should be cooler, and summer should be overall hotter.

We had considerable downpours last night from active thunderstorms that knocked out a lot of tube stations with flooding, between the last 2/3 weekends the temperature has been different by over 10c.

Wimbledon is next week, so watch your TV and see, I do not know if its doing to be dry, wet hot cold as yet, will they use that new roof??

The UK is protected by the sea so we do not tend to get extremes, the sea keeps us warm in winter and cooler in summer more so than Europe, but I think prepare that the north sea will be cold, and be pleased if its sunny.

Prepare for rain, and have the gear available if needed. We are not like places like Florida where things are predictable, no two summers in a row are the same.

The word is ''changeable''

I only wore pants and short sleeve shirts with a jacket. Only once did I go without a jacket. We also brought those lightweight ponchos for rain that when rolled up both fit in my bag.:thumbsup2

Probably - I've never been asked for ID at check in as usually you book with central reservations & they adjust the rate accordingly. Alternatively when booking you could just ask what, if anything you need to show at check-in

Definitely pack for the rain - why do you think it is called the Emerald Isle? Your packing sounds fine as it is similar temps to England & unless you have a good weather predictor you'll need to cover most eventualities. As long as you have somewhere to dry stuff & wash if necessary, you'll be fine & have a great time I'm sure
