Wait, I have a cruise question. Every cruise Bob has a cow over how much I pack. Has anyone here done laundry on board? With so many families with kids can you get near a washer?:laundy: Frankly I think the Mouse and friends frown on hanging laundry on the balconies.:rotfl2::lmao::rotfl:

We try to pack light (thus the tux rentals instead of packing formal wear)

On the 15 day repo we did laundry the first day after our stay at DL, and about half way through the cruise. The Laundry rooms are always busy!:confused3

We did laundry several times on our Baltics cruise. We took 2 suitcases for the 3 of us for our trip, packed an empty one inside for our souvies to bring home. Actually WE didn't do laundry, DH did the laundry - we alway joked about it since it was mostly men doing laundry. We were nice and would bring him food or something to drink when he was there a while. The best day we found to do laundry was the morning we docked in Warnemunde since there were over 1000 people that go off the ship early to Also, DH did not pack a suit, just a couple of nice dress shirts and a pair of dress pants and I took things that could mix and match. Also did the 'wear the shirt to dinner and then again the next day' trick on most nights. Our tablemates were the total opposite - DW and DD wore a different dress to dinner each night, the DH wore a couple of different suits and brought his own tux, they way overpacked.

We also managed to get a few loads of laundry done on the EB repo. It was not easy though. If you waited until you had no clean clothes left-well you would forced to sit and wait for an open washer and dryer-which could be a long wait:scared:

I managed to find an open washer early one morning and sometimes in the afternoon. DH was also able to do 1 or 2 loads one afternoon.

We played it by ear and did our laundry before we were desperate.

The tux rentals were helpful (plus with my DS still growing and DH's weight changing-buying tuxes was not practical for us anyway).
We also bought some t-shirts on the trip too.

You have get over the self-consciousness of wearing an outfit more than once:upsidedow

No, you should be cognizant of the fact I rarely use a monosyllabic word when one or more poly-syllabic words suffice.:rotfl::cool1:

Actually, I was just being a little strange. It was obvious that Caro was more interested in my buddy (which was a very common occurrence) and that he was a bit obtuse about the situation (which was also a very common occurrence).

Since I am an avid reader, I have a prodigious vocabulary, from which I pontificate occasionally.

:confused3 Translation please? :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl:
You must drive your girls crazy and I'm sure you just love doing it. :dance3: :upsidedow

So big words are normal for him, now we understand. :confused3 :dance3:
He also believes the more words used, the better!
I will agree though that it has increased both girls vocabulary. I'm just not sure how often a 10yo or a 15yo will use the word loquacious (sp)! I, on the other hand, help them out with their every day words like "thingy", which happens to be one of my favorite words! It's a very useful one that can be used on MANY occasions! :lmao:

Yes DCL frowns on laundry on the verandas and you get a letter or a call if you do it.

For USA we do laundry a few times in 2008 we did it last night at Disneyland so we we up straight as we went on ship, then on two separate sea days,

In 2007 in the Med we got back from Rome early and dinner was late so we did it then ant it was empty.

For 2010 we will not bother no need!!! just the 12 nights away, no travel can take what we want!! do it again

2009 we will do it at our villa just after our cruise, the laundry often is very busy 24/7 on longer cruises, so have to be careful, with only a few sea days I bet it will focus on those

I've never do laundry on the ship. I do wash out our bathing suits everyday and hang them in the bathroom. I also dry them out on port days on the chairs and I've never had a problem. I usually overpack as well.;)

Hello everyone!

We would like to be included too!
We will be on the 7-18 Baltic cruise with the rest of you and we can hardly wait.:dance3:
We have never cruised with DCL before and I am hoping to gain a lot of information from all of you veterans so that we can make the most of it all.

I have been lurking on this site for a while now but have never posted. Please be patient with me.

We are:
Disname: Samanthasmom1- Monica
DH: Scott
DD: (will be 6 when we cruise)- Samantha
Cat. 9 room # 2632 (I think) right now
We live in Albuquerque, New Mexico
We will be celebrating our DD's 7th birthday. She turns 7 on the last day (7/30).
We have been to Disney World many times in the past couple of years but have never been on a DCL cruise.

We would like to be included in bus transfer from London to Dover if there is still room for the 3 of us.

Welcome aboard! What a great first cruise!

Celestine- thanks for the info on hotels for families of 5. We'll be doing some serious searching soon.

Is there a section of London that would be better to stay in than the others? Where is everybody else planning on staying?

I managed laundry on the pC repo last year. The first laundry I went to was full, but got a washer no probs at the second. It was fairly early on a sea day mid cruise when I guess more people were sleeping in. Driers were naff though - still had to try & finish some things off in the room as they were warm & damp after 3 cycles!

If you are flying in to Gatwick and using train to London and then to port, i would suggest London bridge and Victoria areas for best connections.

Basically there isnt any no go areas, its just how you 'connect up; and whats your preferences.

For Heathrow, Paddington area most likly will be best for example, but Earls court, Piccadilly area would be fine.

For people who do not want to pay sky high prices in the central part of London, places such as Croydon, might be good, not far from Gatwick, on major train routes to Victoria and London bridge, non stop every 10 mins, takes 17 mins in, and on the Oyster travelcard zones so no extra cost.

Shopping try Regent street Marble arch Oxford street area, posh end Mayfair and Strand,

The Victoria area is good - good public transport connections & walkable to a very large number of major attractions. Numerous (often family run) B&Bs & gueset houses. If you are up for theatre, Wicked is showing at Victoria. I'm fairly sure there are a few others staying in that area & it's easy to pick up from!!! More central around thE London Eye, but you'll pay more because of the location

For your family size and in your price bracket, I have just the recommendation for you, a lady I know has a large accommodation in central London off Green park and St James, @ No 1 The Mall.

Large gardens, plenty of rooms, and she is often in one of her other homes in Windsor or Balmoral, Scotland in the summer.

Concierge service is included, and no traffic outside on Sundays.

If you are interested I will give Liz a call.

Slightly higher cost than my Garden shed, cheaper than a stateroom on DCL, -PER DAY, Platinum credit card required.

Optional extra, -conact a MP -and you can get a knighthood as well, for a reasonable donation.

I didn't mention the aircraft noise, however our home and garden shed had the same thing today, low flying aircraft.

They line up, just before us for a fly-past we get them a minute or two before central London, today is the official birthday of the Queen, so at 1pm they have a fly-past gets a bit noisy, we saw it all, and then watched it again on BBC News, however they missed the start by going to the weather!

Having said that the flypast means we had normal airspace cleared and the planes for Heathrow stacked over South London rather than North east London, we do not get too much aircraft noise, but they can circle around and if its our turn for 6am on a quite day, I will notice it as I am a light sleeper.

They tend to have 'north' stacks one day to 3pm, then 'south' stacks, and then swap the next day over, more for people living closer to the airport to prevent noise.

Being close to Boston we get the same thing wether in Milton or Hull!:dance3:
