Hi everyone

I just got in and wanted to share some good news. My son received his first college acceptance letter today. He was admitted to Hampton University, his number one choice.

It's hard to believe that in just seven short months I'll be taking him off to college. The time goes by much too fast. The fact that he's an only child doesn't help much.

Is this rate a consumer rate or a wholesale rate? When I check the OANDA site their rate is $1.38/GBP. The rate that a consumer will buy foreign notes will most always be higher than a posted wholesale rate. http://www.oanda.com/
I've never been able to buy currency or have my credit card charges at the posted rates either here or abroad, there is always a surcharge built into the exchange rate.

My rate to buy dollars (if I have pounds) is $1.30 today. There's always a substantial spread.



Actually there are now two credit cards I know off that offer near wholesale rates on foreign transactions without additional fees. The Capital One card and Schwab Bank card. I used the Capital One card on the Med cruise and the rates I got were great.

The only reason I'm buying some pounds now is I expect the dollar to drop again.

Basically answered but you have a 'mid rate' a buy rate and a sell rate, 1.38 was around the best mid rate of the day, for me to purchase the buy rate is far lower.

Peer pressure, peer pressure........Tara went to U of Maryland, then Temple U and graduated with a major in Communications/Advertising. She then went to Miami Ad School in Miami for one year, took the summer off to go on the Med cruise with us, then studied in Hamburg, London and interned in NYC for the last 6 months. While in MAS, she won several awards and has been published in student ad magazines. She took a lease in Brooklyn fully expecting to get a job this fall. She finished her school in Dec, and then the economy left us (see Andrew) .......so she delivered all these "presents" (her resume) in Manhattan to ad agencies during December. They all seemed to like her but didn't have anything or said "See me in Jan, Feb, March" The first three weeks of Jan. were bleak. Yesterday, on my bday, she finally had an interview. They hired her last night. JWThompson is the agency. How's that? Enough details?

Izzi, you're so funny.......I don't want to leave the universe, but the economy, the temperament of my peers, the injustice of some systems, all of this has been getting to me this month........I guess cold air is really unhealthy to my mood.......... .............our repartee is so refreshing........

Great News LaTanya!!!!!! I know it will be difficult, but you might actually speak with him more often than you do now (especially when funds get low!!!)
