Yes Andrew- we have been spending every Easter vacation in Disney for at least 14 years now- unless there a miracle in the economy n the next few months we will not be going this year!!!
I was in the mall yesterday- haven't been there in a few weeks- I must say, the sales are unbelievable- the Gap for instance , had half of the store marked with signs that said 50% off, buy one get one free- it was all brand new merchandise- I have never seen that before Christmas- it was like the after Christmas sales!!

I am still going to WDW and my August cruise in 09, in part as the cruise was paid off a long time ago, but I expect our UK tourists to be far lower.

Central London is actually very busy, lots of Europeans coming in to do Christmas shopping here, is very cheap now for them, and that might help our sales, Now however I do expect a game of 'cat and mouse' between our shops and the customers, on sales, many expect to see pre christmas sales so will hold off buying until the last minute, however, imports such as Laptops will go up due to the exchange rate.

Whats the matter Andrew lonely!:scared1:

Where is Izzie when you need her?popcorn::

Izzi, forgot to tell you thanks for the tutorial as well. I had no clue there were differences.
Another educational day here at the DIS. :thumbsup2

You're welcome ...... as I said I'm not expert and certainly NOT very knowlegable but Josh had this barmitzvah project to do and it's amazing how much "shared" research has been done  :teacher: :teacher:

Izzie, thank you for the history lesson, I must say - I found it very interesting.

FYI - there was a show in the US many, many moons ago that used to tell incredible true stories - in fact, I think it was called - "That's Incredible". Anyway, one featured story that stayed with me (I was under 13 at the time) was of this little boy traveling with his mom and I think dad in a passenger train. I think - and bear with me folks, they were escaping the German soldiers as it was before Hilter hit it big - anyway, they were very religious and they were caught in a power outage and the train could not move. They were sad that they would not be able celebrate (meaning light???) the candles for fear of being questioned and detained. Anyway, the mom decided to go ahead and light some candles so they placed them in the window of the rail car in tradtional form and they prayed (don't hate me if I get it wrong folks this is going off a child's memory and I AINT NO CHILD ANYMORE!). Anyway, as you can imagine, the German soldiers were going from car to car, the mother had intended to put away the candles but before she knew it, the German officer was on the train, I believe just before he boarded the train, there was a major power outage and the train was stopped. Now that I think about it, maybe that was why the train was stopped, for it was stopped. Anyways, as the German Officer enteres their car, the story went that the whole car was dark except for this little beacon of light from the candles.

As can be expected, the office paused, looked at them. The family was scared as they would have been taken by force and incarcerated. So after the hesitation, the officer uses their car to have people come to the compartment and check IDS. After all was checked, he tells the mom something to the effect of she was smart, using candles to light the way for the officers searching the train for Jewish folk. And the best part, they got to keep the candles lit.

I remember a little spiel later but what stuck with me was that the little boy in the reinactment was so hapy they got to celebrate and keep the candles - why this stuck in my brain - I have no clue but I have never forgotten it. I think because the irony of the situation hit me - one of the hated enemies was aided by the faith of the ones they were trying to exterminate.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

OK my turn to be Keeper of Useless Knowledge (about the TV show that is) - not that this is useless, obviously I would not have remembered it if it didn't strike a chord. I just find it amazing that after 30 something years, I remember that story almost as if I saw it last week and I can't remember what I did 3 days ago!

On a note, the fires in CA which made the headlines here - have hit pretty hard. The nearest one is about 16 miles from my house. We were hit pretty hard with the smoke yesterday and we were encarcerated in the house all day yesterday - it was hard to breathe and I had to shut all the window in order to breathe. DD 21 has asthma and I am getting sick.

Anyway, today, I had to get up and sign up DD for Club Volleyball - BTW, she made it - so it looks like I will have even less time to myself. This is a very competitive sport and she has a good shot if she sticks with it of getting seen by a college scout if she sticks with it. So, at 8:45 am this morning I go out and it looks like its 6 pm at night. Lots of smoke, haze and ash. In fact, I'll have to post some later so you can see how much ash flew over.

The Apartment complex that some may have seen on the news is about 3 miles from our office in La Habra and Brea is another 3 miles from there so come Monday, we'll see if there is any damage. The good news is that the police haven't called so nothing has been broken or burned as of yet. I'll keep you all posted.

Anyway, got to fly for a bit, Nordstrom has a shoe sale going on and I just picked up some UGG boots on sale! :woohoo: For those that kmow - UGG boots never go on sale - got the rubber soled short boots for 1/2 price. Laura Scores! Got 4 Christmas presents knocked out of the way plus my brother's family out of the way with a gift card. I'm doing good - (now how to tell DH that I spent $$ at Mervyns - they are at 40% off everything in the store. ) Did I mention I got an eco-drive Citizen watch for $100? I paid $200 for mine at WDW. Go hurry - open, open, open.

Later all!

OMG, I was at a mall yesterday with a Nordstrom.......I'm so jealous.....UGGs on sale!!!!!!!Wow, maybe the sales really will be good this year!!!!!!!!!!!:dance3:

OMG what a day and it ain't over yet :scared: :scared:

We had to get up early to get Ethan to his new prospective secondary school for assessment tests, then after dropping him off Josh, Paul and I went to pack boxes for underprivilaged Jewish people in the old soviet union. We then picked up Ethan and raced home so Josh could get changed for his formal barmitzvah party which he's at now and we have to pick him up at 11pm tonight. All this involved going back and for across north london with nasty traffic. So not quiet Sunday by any means.... Roll on Monday :headache:  :upsidedow
