:wave2: Everybody!

Sorry - have been busy, sick, chauffer and well, just plain out of touch. I have missed all of you and just had a few minutes to pop in here to check on you all.

Christmas gift wrapping is in full swing - my house looks like a tornado landed and stayed. Steve went to bed with a clean living room and woke up to ask - "What Happened?" :confused3

LOL - I have a lot of family and being as we still have a job, we are footing the bill for a lot of presents.

My reason for coming on? My Santa Mickey with a candy cane which I allowed my mother to use at her house was stolen last night from her house. Bad news: it was taken. Good news: It was dropped. Bad News: It's torn. Good news: Its up in the backyard of her house - its listing but at least its up.

Called the police - not a true "trespassing" because the front yard doesn't have a fence and is therefore open to the public. It's not a true theft because Mickey was found on a neighbor's lawn. We got the guys on a security camera but fit the generic description of 3 young (18-25) male hispanics, which in our city is about 60% of the population. So I'm not out $100 but I am out the convenience. Been at my mother's house all day awaiting the police to arrive. I know its silly to hope but I was hoping that when, and there will be a when, it happens again, the groundwork would be set for future prosecution. No go - I was given a file number was was told that I had no "work-able" information.

I did however, find out that you might want to put a fence around your property in order to facilitate trespassing charges should it happen again. So.....guess what my 2009 resolution is: ::yes:: to put up some kind of fence for future security. Right now my house is open in the front - I'll have to take a picture for you all later.

So my moral of the story: I have now Sharpie'd all my Mickey Mouse Blow-Up figures with our address and phone number and my husky sled (which I got from Lowe's) has my name and my husband's 866 number in case it "wanders" off our porch - which BTW, is open to the public. So.....now that I have that off my chest, the furr kids are begging for a walk so off I go. I thought with April being gone for her confirmation retreat I would have a few minutes of peace, WRONG! I was able to sleep in today but that was about it. Now, off I go appease someone else! SIGH! TTYL

Laura, sorry you had to deal with all that today. That's just not right to take someone's things off their lawn any time of the year, let alone this time of year. :sad2: :sad2:

Welcome back, Laura......we've missed you! Ken put up our lawn decorations today, so I'm due for a photo so I can post them........more lawm blow-ups!

We won't get much and it won't last, but it's still exciting!
It is bittersweet though. I used to always call my Mom to tell her the first snow of the season. Can't do that anymore. :sad1:

:grouphug: I know exactly what you mean. We got a wedding invitation in the mail yesterday for my cousin's daughter and I was getting ready to pick up the phone to call my parents to ask them if they got their's. So hard to accept the fact they are gone and it's been just a little over 2 years now. :sad1:

Since I'm photo posting challenged, I'm going to post a link to my brother's house and his 20,000 lights: http://www.christmasdelaware.com/Home.html If you click on the 'our pictures' link you will see more pics from this year (to be added shortly) and pics from his house last year which was a 2 story house. He's going to get the video uploaded soon from this year's 'show'. One of the songs he's using this year is The Main Street Electrical Parade and it's really cool for the light show.

Sorry, I'm sure that is so hard.....

Well I guess we're slowing down..........we didn't get to 250 pages yet, as we predicted.......:confused3

Thanks.
Last year was worse than the year before since we had so much to deal with. That's part of the reason I decided we were going away, just to get away from the memories here and maybe start a new tradition for the 3 of us.

Hi Barb:wave2:

I may have missed it, but where is the current avatar picture from? I know it looks familiar but I can't place it.

Mike, I found out and a little more info than you wanted to know:

Opening up in front of the cathedral is Isaakievskaya Ploshchad (St. Isaac's Square), which was completed only after the cathedral was built. In its center stands the Nicholas Statue. Unveiled in 1859, this statue of Tsar Nicholas I was commissioned by the tsar's wife and three children, whose faces are engraved (in the allegorical forms of Wisdom, Faith, Power, and Justice) on its base. It was designed, like St. Isaac's Cathedral, by Montferrand. The statue depicts Nicholas mounted on a rearing horse. Other engravings on the base describe such events of the tsar's reign as the suppression of the Decembrists' uprising and the opening ceremonies of the St. Petersburg-Moscow railway line.

I love that! I would love to do a light show like that!

Too bad i don't have the time.

Or the money.

Or the talent.

:lmao:

Too funny! Yes, it will be odd to put snowmen and palm trees together . . .

Where are you staying on St. Thomas? I have spent the day at Sapphire beach and it was wonderful.

:lmao: Have to do Australia one Christmas just to see who they do it without Snow! (My Excuse)

We were just like that until Thursday night, Andrew and now everything is ice and white. Not too safe to take a step!:woohoo: . Of course the Christmas lights do look nice shinning through it, but you don't want to be out in it!
:thumbsup2 Bit better here today, only fog!
I really prefer your snowman with the palm tree and agree with JoAnn that a suntan feels good as mine is now faded!:worship: .
Barbados for Christmas was very good it gave us a boost that year, with all that sun we recharged and no one had colds that year,
We only had 30 FE exchanges on this last cruise, but we got some of the most unusual gifts. As soon as we got on the ship I thought someond from this cruise was on board as I had to take a second look at a magnet on our door that had the "Small World Ship" on it, but it said to Castaway Cay and then it had both of our names on it. Someone got on board very early and had everyone's door done.

You just meet the nicest people on the Disboard, don't you?

Keep baking, girls---it's cinnamon sugared pecans and peanutbutter fudge tonight!

I really like being the taste tester!:dance3:
:thumbsup2

I was just watching our BBC News with the Ice storms of North East USA, they look very bad, with Electrical supplies out and lots of damage to cars, homes etc.

Hope everyone is OK.

That's wonderful, Carolyn! I love snow, especially leading up to Christmas!

Well, the city got lucky and it was just that few degrees too warm to ice over, but starting just north of the city, throughout New York State and New England it has been quite bad, and hasn't gotten warm enough to melt the ice, either . . . lots of people are out of power and have been for days.

Thanks.
