OMG :scared1: :scared1: :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared: We've just been sent this email by our general manager,I hope that I'm not one of the poor souls

During October and November each General Manager in London has been reviewing (and continues to review) their costs including their future resourcing requirements. The Bank and I wish to be totally transparent with staff on this issue and although no final decision has been made, it is anticipated that redundancies may become necessary. However before any redundancies are confirmed the Bank will first explore other potential alternatives.

OMG Izzi, I'll be thinking of you and the rest of the 'poor souls' where you work and hope no redundancies happen, especially you. :grouphug: :flower3: Anytime of the year is horrible to hear this, but especially the end of the year.

I heard back from my TA and she was able to get my fuel surcharges removed from this cruise after her 2nd email to DCL. She said it really depends on who you or your TA talks to there if they will remove it for a European cruise.

I have to say I love my TA too, she also gives the same OBC's as DU. In fact, I even received an email from her at 11:30 last night. She's easy to reach by phone or email.

Izzi, if you are having a problem with DU I recommend you email John the webmaster and express your concerns/frustrations with him over your agent. I've heard many people have been able to get their issues resolved when he is involved. :grouphug:

Thaks for your advice Barb, but after that email I don't feel like planning anything at the moment..... you just never know as I just said to my sister if push comes to shove we might even have to cancel Joshua's barmitzvah party :scared1: :scared1:

I can certainly understand your concerns at the moment and I know there's nothing anyone can say to comfort you, but just know that we are all here for you. :grouphug: :flower3:
I know it sounds sappy and all, but that's what we are all here for to help each other out no matter what the circumstances.

Please no tears after that Hallmark moment.

Here is hoping that no redundancies are found!:thumbsup2

Just read this on the Fuel Surcharge Thread!

DU is in contact with DCL to try and get this worked out. They know which reservations would need to be changed once they get DCL to agree to make the changes.

To be honest it is really pretty cut and dry - if the cost of the cruise has not changed since it was booked DCL has to re-price the reservation and the fuel fees automatically come off when they re-price it. If the reservation has increased in price or the category no longer available they cannot take the fees off. Where the price has increased if they try and re-price to take the fuel fees off the reservation will price at the higher rate. I am a TA and have been working on the reservations I personally have over the last two days. I have been able to take the fees off close to 100 reservations. There were a few European cruises that I wasn't able to do that for because the price had increased. DCL didn't give me or any of the other agents in our company any problems making the changes to the reservations that qualified

For the cruises that increased in price they will be looked at on a quarterly basis and if the fuel cost is still under $70 a barrel then the fuel fees will be issued as an OBC for sailings during the following quarter. Example on Dec 18, 2008 they will issue the OBC for sailings in Jan-March 09. On March 18 they will issue OBC for sailings Apr-June 09, etc. as long as the ful costs stays below the magic number

I have been so busy (good thing in this economy and hope it stays that way :) ) that I haven't had much time to be on the DIS lately. Julie thank you so much for putting all the information on page 1 of the thread. Makes it easier to look there to see what is going on

 Good thoughts coming to you and others that may be involved. Having been involved in a layoff (almost 5 years) from Boeing, I can understand your concerns. Boeing announced last week that there will probably be layoffs in 2009 again. Working for Boeing, we always seem to have that feeling lurking.
We are all here for you. We take care of each other. I imagine in the next year and half, we'll be doing lots of taking care.

I'm sorry but that is bull**** you should not have to pay the FS just because the cost of the cruise has gone up or the category of your stateroom is no longer available....that is just soooooooooo wrong

Just got this email from a different member of the DU staff

Hi Isabel,

Since your reservation price was the same as when you originally booked, I
was able to have Disney Cruise Line re-shop your reservation (rebook it at
today's price) which removed the $264.00 fuel charge from your reservation.
Disney Cruise Line is not able to remove the fuel surcharge from a
reservation without re-shopping. This did not change your reservation
number, stateroom, dining, onboard credits, etc.

Please understand that if the price of oil goes up when they re-look at this
2 weeks prior to the quarter you are sailing, they may re-add this charge to
your reservation.

I just sent you an email with instructions to view your new information.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions or requests.

Thank you for selecting Dreams Unlimited Travel!

Sincerely
Kelsie Johnson

Not matter what they say in the email I know that the cost of my holiday has gone up from the time I booked it to now as I got tier 1 prices and we were all discussing how the prices where going up on this thread a couple of weeks after we all booked so it's all a load of rubbish !!!!!!

I understand but that is the policy they have put in place. To be honest they don't even have to take it off any reservation at all because the terms for anyone that booked after May 28th included the fees and those are the terms we all agreed to when booking. DCL was the last cruise line to add the fuel surcharges. Others had added them months before DCL did

Some other cruise lines are not taking the fees off any 2008 or 2009 sailings already booked or for future 2009 bookings.

Here is the statement that RCCL put out - sorry for the caps it is the way they sent it out.
"FOR NORTH AMERICAN RESERVATIONS, FOR SAILINGS COMMENCING IN 2008 OR 2009, A FUEL SUPPLEMENT OF $10 PER PERSON, PER DAY, FOR THE FIRST 2 GUESTS IN A STATEROOM (SUBJECT TO A MAXIMUM OF $140 PER PERSON) APPLIES; EACH ADDITIONAL GUEST IN THE STATEROOM WILL BE CHARGED $5 PER PERSON, PER DAY (SUBJECT TO A MAXIMUM OF $70 PER PERSON). FOR SAILINGS COMMENCING IN 2010 AND BOOKED ON OR AFTER NOVEMBER 10, 2008, NO FUEL SUPPLEMENT CHARGES APPLY."

Izzi, stop...take a deep breath...and relax for a minute. Don't forget to exhale, we don't want you to pass out. :upsidedow

Honestly - some categories increased in price on this sailing but most did not. I sat here all day Monday and re-priced each reservation I have booked for clients for all of 2009 and 2010. What some people didn't realize when they were looking at the regular prices is that if they rebooked onboard they had to take off the 10% discount off the base fare of what was showing online to compare it to the price they had. Most were just comparing the price they saw online to what they paid and did not take off the 10%. I am sure some did but I followed this thread when it first started and those were the comparisons I was seeing. I actually re-priced mine to see how much it had gone up but when I deducted the 10% the price was the same as when I first booked it

I understand how upset you are about this but I am just reporting what we have been told and have been able to do. I don't mean to upset you further

I dont' want this to get into a heated debate here, but RCCL says for NORTH AMERICAN RESERVATIONS so does that mean if the cruiser lives outside of NA they didn't pay the fuel surcharge or does that mean if the cruise does not originate in NA they didn't pay it? If it means for a NA resident to pay it and a non-NA resident doesn't pay it, that's not fair either.

No matter how you look at it, the fuel surcharges are not fair in the long run. But the cruiselines should just continue to charge them and then refund when necessary, it would make it so much easier all the way around.

Hi

I am not trying to stir the pot, but I have a suite booked which has 0 availability! DCL took the Fuel Surcharge Off, I have compared the new confirmation versus the old & the only difference is a reduced price by the amount of the surcharge!

So hopefully that e-mail you received is correct, just check the numbers & have a pint of scrumpy and all will be better!:goodvibes

It means for cruises generating in North America no matter where the person lives. They had different rules for the European cruises, which I don't have handy right now. They haven't released the 2010 European cruises as of yet

I agree with your second paragraph and I don't mean to upset anyone or start a debate, sorry about that just trying to be helpful with information. I just was trying to let people know the rules of what DCL is allowing or not allowing
