Barb,
Did you feel that you missed out by not seeing the Grand Palace or were you satisfied with just the grounds, after seeing Catherine's Palace? I understand they are practically identical.![]()
When you were there before, did you buy Russian chocolate as gifts? Aside from nesting dolls, did you find any other "must buys" or booty from St.P?

We never felt we missed out on seeing the inside of Peterhoff since I hadn't looked into what we would have seen.
We bought a couple of candy bars. I didn't like them but DH and DD did. They reminded me of the English Aero bars which I don't like and they do.
We bought some little pens that were painted in the nesting doll style, they were wooden and inexpensive. Also bought a couple of t-shirts and a small water color. On the ship I did buy a small hand painted laquer box that was pricey but is really pretty.
I didn't look into the nesting dolls since I wasn't interested in buying them.
Our guide took us to a couple of gift shops for bathroom breaks, vodka shots and shopping. The shops were similiar in what they carried, lots of amber, nesting dolls, laquer boxes, shirts and all kinds of little tchokes (or however it's spelled). Prices were in US$, Euros and rubles. You could find souveniers of all price ranges there.
There was also a shop at the port. We just walked in and back out since it was hot and crowded and we were tired.
I would rather have looked at the shops at the Hermitage or Catherine's Palace, but we were pressed for time and our tour mates didn't really like to shop.
