7/14/2014 - 12-Night Mediterranean Cruise (with Greece) Venice to Barcelona

3 Mom Girls, I just joined this group and am new to the DIS forum but noticed that you are in Cypress too. We will be on the Disney Magic on July 14!

DanfromCA, Were you planning to be in Rome prior to the cruise and if so, what type of transportation are you taking from Rome to Venice? We are thinking about flying into Rome, taking the train and traveling to Tuscany for a couple of days and then by train to Venice. Just checking to understand all of our options and the best of course! Thanks for sharing!

Keenercam,

The link did not work for me and since I just joined this forum, I cannot send you a private message. Can you please send me a private message so that I can send you my information for FB? Thanks! Linda

Hi, Linda! I sent you a PM. If you didn't get it, email me your name and email address so that I can add you to the Facebook group. My email address is keenercam at aol dot com.

Welcome Linda; my daughter will be 17 at the time of the cruise. I will have a 23 year old son too (crud, or 24? 22? I gave up when he hit legal drinking age. That made me feel old.) Welcome to the group!

The plan is definitely to take the train from Rome to Venice. I hadn't really considered Tuscany, but my go to Florence before Rome. I'm still waiting for some other summer plans to come together before I figure out exactly where I'll be and when, and actually start making reservations.

We got our flights! We'll be flying Delta (for the first time internationally) to Venice a few days early. I'm excited about flying Delta so we can check in our bags at the cruise terminal in Barcelona. That will be a nice change. Maybe it's this "open jaw" flight, but the tickets were a good deal more than in past DCL cruises out of Barcelona. Thankfully 4/5 of our tickets were on points.

Anyone ever fly Economy Comfort on Delta? Is it worth the upgrade?

Lot of stressful moments on Monday. DH booked our return flights for the wrong date. He wanted me to confirm the departure time & when I opened the reservation, I realized it was the wrong date. We had to scramble to find return flights once again. Luckily, found them but had to shell out lot more points. :dance3:

Thank you for the warm welcome. My daughter will have turned 19 by the time we sail! We are thinking of flying into Rome, taking a train to Pisa for a couple of days and lastly a train to Venice. The plans are not solid yet because I have not booked my flight...hoping to use points. I have enough for one ticket but short for the 2nd. We also may spend a couple of days in Barcelona, if one of our previous exchange students from Germany can swing being in Barcelona. On the front-end she will be taking her A levels and prom right around the 7-12-14. We are looking forward to our trip and trying not to make my husband too jealous by talking about it too much. He may end up trying to at least join us for the cruise...we will see. I am very happy that there will be other young adults on the cruise but my daughter is very shy when she first meets someone. This forum is already giving me some great ideas that I need to research. :)

Thanks DanfromCA! Just trying to get my plans together. I have an outline that could change depending on my research.

Hi Roses, my daughter's a total socialite, it's my son who's the wallflower. He's so quiet, he has a hard time on the cruises, since it forces you to try and meet new people in a very short period of time. I've half a mind to toss him a backpack and tell him to stay in Europe and come home when he's come out of his shell.

I do think I need to experience doing that first, before making him go. Of course. Right? :rotfl2:

SailingSeas, In total agreement...you should experience traveling with a backpack around Europe before you send your son off on such an adventure. I only wish I were young enough or smart enough to have enjoyed the experience! :hippie:

Good Morning Cruisers! Sorry to have been scarce lately, but we just spent a month in China - fantastic trip! Sounds like everyone is working on air fares, hope everyone is finding what they want.

I think the person who was coordinating the fish extender is no longer on this cruise. Does someone else want to coordinate it? If no one is up for it, I'd be glad to keep the list in a Word document that can be circulated closer to the sailing date.

Awww--Just realized we'll miss a saint's festival on Santorini: St Elias' name day. Too bad - Walter "Elias" Disney - would have been too much!

I have participated in FE exchanges on several other cruises and have found that on the larger ships two problems occurred: first was the total cost, but second was the time it took to deliver all the little gifts!
My last cruise I decided not to participate for those reasons.
If we could come up with a way (splitting into groups by deck or some such) so that it does not become a burden, I would love to participate again.

Re: FE's

Kathy - I think that this is less of a problem on the Magic, since it is a bit smaller than the two newer ships. I also think that fewer cabins typically sign up on the Mediterranean cruises because people don't want to tote gifts to or from a foreign port of departure.

We can certainly test the interest level here for FEs.

Hi Cathy
I love the whole FE experience. last year on the New York cruise I had to bring a extra suitcase just with all the gifts in I did get a bit excited but all my gifts were greatly appreciated as they were little mementos from England. I know what you mean though. My daughter 13 loved it when we got back to the cabin and there was a little gift in her FE, I hope we can all meet up aswell  I love Americans you make me so happy.
