7/14/2014 - 12-Night Mediterranean Cruise (with Greece) Venice to Barcelona

Tony C: :rotfl2:

Has anyone sailed from Venice before? I'm thinking of arriving by train and wonder how much of a hassle it is to get luggage and self from the Santa Lucia station to Piazzale Roma. Also, is there a shuttle from Piazzale Roma to the ship?
I'm assuming that if I stay the night in Venice, I would need to find my own way to Piazzale Roma, right?

Thanks.

We have only sailed from Barcelona to Barcelona. I am so excited to go back to that gorgeous city, even if it is only for one day and one night. :yay:

Okay, who wants to participate in the Fish Extender? I'll start a list here and keep adding to this post. You can send me a PM that tells me the following:

****************************
username
Family last name
cabin number(s)
# of adults & their names
Kids' names and their ages

****************************

I will not disseminate the Word document in which I compile that information right away so that we can get a pretty solid list together.

I will occasionally post in this post the usernames of those participating, how many cabins are participating/# of adults/# of cruisers under the age of 18.

Does all of that sound good?

Hey, Gus, can you add to your first post a link to page 43, post 642 for the Fish Extender Participant List, pretty please!!! :)

KathyInCitrus, We are currently planning to arrive from the Tuscany area into Venice and spend Sunday, July 13. Currently we have a hotel room booked in Venice and they quoted us a price for water taxi to the ship which was a bit steep...still researching. I have seen others talking about sharing a water taxi but I assume the hotels need to be located somewhat close together. We will have to haul our luggage from the train station to our hotel and from our hotel to the ship. Below is what I have researched on the internet.

Venice is a very small place and everything is accessible by either Vaporetto or walking. The #1 goes along the Grand Canal from the train station, stopping in each of the six sestiere or neighborhoods as well as the Lido, so it's a good way to see Venice and this takes about 20 min. Piazza San Marco is roughly a 45 minute walk from Santa Lucia train station. It is a lovely walk but you will have to drag luggage up and down the steps of canal bridges. If you walk, you'll pass many of the major tourist attractions such as the Frari Church, Rialto Bridge and markets.

Hope sharing helps everyone with their arrangements!

Roses: PM if you prefer, which hotel did you book? It could be a start to sharing the water taxi. Really not big on dragging luggage all over, plus there's a limit some modes of transportation impose on the size & amount of luggage. Now I'm thinking I might arrive the day before and take a Grand Canal tour. I've been to Venice before but not for a cruise. I have stayed at a little hotel next to the train station in the past.

Kathy, We have never been to Europe so my learnings are by research on the internet, this site and different hotel sites. At the moment, we are booked at
Pensione Accademia - Villa Maravege and it is only a 15 minute walk from St. Marks square but I have plenty of time to change, if I find something more appealing, I will change. I found that the Pensione Accademia is near the Zattere which is a floating pier and the Marittima ship basin takes only 12 minutes and costs only a little more than a vaporetto fare which will cost much less than a water taxi and I read just saying "Zattere," and you'll pay half-fare. It seems a bit confusing but I am sure it will make sense when I get there and I will ask for directions as needed. Of course, I am still reading and researching so reservations can change. :) What are your thoughts?

Roses:

I was just online myself and found the affordable hotel rooms SEEM to be selling out :confused3 . So, I booked at a hotel on the Lido, next to a vaporetto stop. At least I can get to the Piazza Roma by boat - hopefully not too crowded! After that, it's in Mickey's hands!:mickeyjum

Keener, Gus appears to have changed his plans as well. I wish they could just split up the posts and have yours appear at the top.

And, I cannot wait to have all my worries in Mickey's hands! But I don't want to rush it and vacation to be over too soon either! Mickey is the man! Well I am glad you found an affordable room...I felt like ours was affordable as well but haven't secure my airfare yet...short on points for my daughter. I will continue to look daily but thinking until after the holidays it will be difficult since fare tend to go up during those time periods. Keep me abreast on your travel plans as at this point my hubby is staying home...cannot take three weeks vacation without pay and I agree...he needs to work while I am on vacation. Lucky that my company has paid vacation! :) And, I am trying to work out the Barcelona end because one of our ex-exchange students is trying to meet up with us which I hope is possible...it would be a delightful ending to our vacation to spend time together although two are planning a visit in 2014. Have a great weekend...by chance do you live in lovely Florida? One of my favorite vacation destinations is Destin...if I can't be on a cruise, I LOVE Destin, FL!

. Sounds great. Thanks for taking on the FE organization! I will pm you our info shortly.

Hi, everyone! As I receive requests to join our FB group, I will check here to be sure the person is on our cruise, since we've all agreed we want that group to just be people on our sailing.

Until plans change, and goodness knows they will, I'll traveling by train from Bologna to Venice on the 13th and staying the night in a hotel on Lido. I may decide to add more of Italy on the front end, but haven't decided if I have the energy. Then, two nights in Barcelona before heading home.
But I'd better be thinking about air reservations, too! :rolleyes1 :teleport:

How are other travel plans shaping up? :scratchin

Oh, and I'm planning on being in WDW Florida in April if anyone wants me to check on anything. :yay:

Kathy, we have not confirmed our air reservations yet...I have been checking daily to watch air fares since I only have enough miles for one ticket. I have been trying to be creative with using my United and AA looking at one way trips but it looks like I will have to buy one ticket at some point. Once I have confirmed the air, then I will confirm reservations in Rome and Barcelona. I have booked a hotel in Lucca and Venice but may end up changing if we find something more interesting. If anyone has suggestions on hotels in Rome and/or Barcelona, I would truly appreciate the feedback. Disney in April sounds fun before it gets too hot and crowded. I would love a little trip to Disney World and have some points that we could use to cover the hotel but I don't want to use my air points at this time to fly since I would like to save for our Med cruise. Take care...Thanksgiving is just around the corner and then Christmas!

Hi All

So pleased to have found this thread and the facebook group (I've just sent a request to join).

We booked the cruise today! My Husband and I are travelling with our twin boys age 5. Following our caribbean cruise on the Disney Fantasy in April I've been persuading my Hubby we should book Europe - thankfully we don't have to contend with long haul flights this time, travelling from the UK.

I'm holding off telling the children at the mo but know the first thing they'll ask is if we are going to deliver presents again :) We'll definately want to join the FE list - I'll confirm stateroom....

Ok - now to start working my way through this news thread, you guys have been busy :)

Lynne

We had always planned to do another Disney Med cruise and this one has some amazing ports of call.

This time it will just be me, DH and DD who will be 16.

Can't wait!
