The Tink Half was really the perfect family event -- 3 days at
Disneyland was fabulous! We spent the day at the park after the half marathon -- I think we were at the park by 10am! I was wearing my fitbit that day and between the marathon and the park, I covered over 22 miles that day. It was CRAZY. Of course, I couldn't walk much at ALL the day after!
Reminiscing really is making me want to go do it again!
That does sound crazy, BUT also sounds so much fun!! You should definitely do it again!!
I have to chime in to the running conversations...one of my favourite topics along with trip planning and Disney, LOL. I'm hoping to get out at least a few times while on the cruise and would love to have some company. I am motivated when I am home, but need an extra push when I'm on vacation and could be sleeping.
Sorry to hear about your ankle, LTR - I had to take 6 months off from running and weight training last year following an illness/surgery, and it was so hard. That must have been a tough decision for you to make.
I did the Disney Princess Half-Marathon last year - similar to the Tinkerbell, I guess. We made a family vacation out of it, with two other families, and had a blast. Disney knows how to put on a fun event, for sure. They did have a kids' event, but our kids were too busy in the parks to do that one. I'm running my 4th half in a few weeks...funny after a long race and putting in the time for training, I always say I don't know if I'll do another. But the bug always bites me again...Sounds like that's where you are, CaliHannah.
I love all of these Disney races....
Well, "happy momma", I am a huge motivator when people need/want motivation for running or just exercise/working out in general! I am one of those who will say "great job" or "you're almost there" or "keep it up", or "you can do it!!", etc during a race to complete strangers doing the race as well.

I love to run, but not one of those super serious intense runners who just are focused on getting a certain time, etc. I mean, I definitely am very competitive with myself and always want to beat my time from the previous race, and I am for sure focused on my own run, and have a strategy for each particular run, etc., BUT in the same time, I just see it as a fun event and I love to encourage people along the way!!!
So, if I see you on deck 4 or anywhere else on the ship, I'll help motivate you to run a few times on the cruise.
That's funny - I always end a race with hopes to do longer distances! After finishing my first half, I realized I could do a full. Finished a full and thought going Goofy wouldn't be so bad. Now I'm registered to do Dopey in January so I will HAVE to be on Deck 4 or a treadmill at least a few times during the cruise just to maintain. Having running buddies will be a very helpful push to get out there!

I am exactly like you!! Well, I was exactly like you, I should say, until I finally pushed myself too far with doing a longer race, and then I burned myself out, and that is when I started scaling down and decided my long race days were over and I started doing shorter races, which were so much fun and so much easier in terms of training.
One of my closest girlfriends here is just like me, so we'd always do the same races and train for them together, and we'd finish a race, and then sign up for another, and we worked ourselves up to the marathon level. We also did triathlons together, but the short triathlons. Well, then she and I got this crazy idea that if we can run a full marathon, we should do a 1/2 Ironman, so we found a 1/2 Ironman race to do and we trained for it.... and let me tell you, that burned me out! LOL!! I did do the 1/2 IM and completed (didn't do so great with my overall time, but I was just happy to finish!!!), and it was after that where I decided my long race days are DONE (that was about 6 years ago), and after that, I only committed to 5K's and 10K races, and loved it.... and then I hurt my ankle, and now I just run little bits here and there.
But, my girlfriend did not get burned out from that 1/2 IM and SHE continued on to do the full IM race!! She tried very very hard to convince me to do a full Ironman, and I told her she was crazy!!

So, I told her the closest I will come to an Ironman race is being a spectator, which is exactly what I have been... her cheerleading squad.
SO, I totally can relate to you.... I always had the thought, "well, if I was able to run that distance, surely I can do the next distance up".
Have fun doing the Dopey race (isn't that the 5K race and then the full marathon the next day?) Is that right? I've heard about that....
Well, it'll be for sure fun to see lots of runners AND walkers on deck 4!! I think there are a few others here that will be training for some sort of running race and will be running on deck 4, and there are some here I know who are walkers who will be walking on Deck 4! And, I'm sure there are others here who will enjoy sitting on the nice comfy lounge chairs on deck 4 watching the walkers and runners.

So, I bet lots of us from this cruise meet will be on Deck 4 for one reason or another.
