Seven Months/Eleven Months like the Gas Station, as my Guide put it in the process of buying Direct is the window for booking at Non Home/ Home Resorts....

My question is how hard is the 7 month window? We are owners at SSR and are content with staying there in the main building or in the Treehouse Villas, but from reading in here it seems really hard to get into any other resort at the 7 month time frame. Is it?

Can I book my home resort at 11 months out, and then try to get something else at 7 months out and if that works cancel the home resort?

We plan on going the week after labor day 2012, hoping to take adcantage of low points and lower crowds thinking most familes and college kids will be getting into the start of a new school year. What are the hopes for BLT, BCV or BWV?

Another question is there a way to guarentee 2 queen beds not a queen and a pull out in a second bedroom of a 2 bedroom villa?

Thanks for your help!

We own at SSR and have only stayed there once in 4 years. The week after labor day used to be our week to go before the kids started school. We always had our selection of about any 1bd in DVC to choose from at the 7 m mark because it is a very low season for DVC and Disney for that matter.
The 7m mark really depends on when you want to go. If you go during very busy DVC times or need a very specific room, then it is more difficult at the 7m mark. We have never had problems getting what we want in Sept, Jan and May.

We are also owners at SSR and have only stayed there once. We have never been shut out of any other resort at the 7 month window. As a matter of fact I just booked BLT for President's week. I would imagine the only time you'd have a real problem would be x-mas and maybe spring break. To increase your odds I would be on the phone at exactly 9 am on the morning of the 7 month mark.

Availability at 7 months depends on several factors, resort, time of year, special events being put on by Disney. A couple of things to consider, booking at 11 months you are only competing with the other owners at that resort, at 7 months, you are competing with all of the owners at every resort. Disney is adding thousands of new owners yearly so the computation at 7 months has to become more difficult.

As far a 2 queen beds, I think that only a couple of resorts have a few available, at 7 months you can forget about getting them.

You will need to book a dedicated 2 bedroom to get 2 queens (except at OKW where all the rooms have 2 queens and BCV where 2 queens in a booking category). Availability is always changing and you can always book your home resort and than see what is available at 7 months. I only go for short periods of time (2-3 nights) so I am not willing to change rooms and therefore only take things available for all my nights- if you are willing to have split stays you have an easier time getting more resort availability.

September is among the easiest times of year to get accommodations...we have no experience w/2-bedrooms, altho it would appear from reading DisBoards that that size villa books quickly--but reading the DIS also suggests that studios book quickly. We have lots of experience booking studios--

We own at SSR and at BCV...in approximately 25 trips over 6 years, we've only "had" to stay at SSR once (and that was an October trip booked 4 months out--2 studios). We frequently stay there by choice--we love it there.

At 7 months, we've found no availability for BLT standard view and for BCV and for BWV standard view (but ntoe: we go every year for a week from late August to early September--again, 2 studios, and we've gotten standard view BWV each time)...But we've gotten BLT lake view (never tried for Magic Kingdom view)...and one time, at 2 months out, during spring break no less, I did get a four-night BLT SV studio stay--that may have been "just luck," tho--

Generally, we find it hardest to book at around 4 months out--later than that for some reason things seem to open up (altho never to the point of "take your pick")...and at 7 months our only problems have been with specific views...we always get either a one-bedroom or two studios, depending on who's going on the trip...

We've also found, in the last couple of years, that wait lists don't work very well if they're longer than 2 nights...single nights (if not for nights like the Wed before T-giving or New Years Eve) seem to come through most often.

So, although Deb and Bill's observation about "tighter availability" due to the growing number of DVC members who have access to all resorts at 7 months makes sense, we have not yet found insurmountable availability issues at 7 months. But we're not picky about views...I usually like to get the lower point views (standard at BLT and BWV; value at AK), but it's not a deal-breaker if we have to go with the higher-point-cost views...

Good luck!

BWV preferred will be your best option availability wise but it has no rooms with 2 queens in the second and no dedicated 2 BR units. As noted above, BCV is a problem for availability due to small size and 2 queens due to the fact that the 2 queen beds are highly sought after and usually booked at the home resort booking window. The other dedicated 2 BR units there have a queen and a pullout queen where all other second BR pull outs at other resorts are full size (love seat) I believe.

Other than BWV and BCV, I believe all other dedicated 2 BR units have 2 queens at WDW. I'd book a dedicated 2 BR at SSR 11 mo out then decide what's most important to you and proceed accordingly. Be prepared to use the WL and that you can only have TWO WL OPTIONS. For example, a 2 BR L/O and 2 BR dedicated at one resort would take up your two WL spots. For somewhere with a view type or other booking category, you'd be limited further.
