We now have points in a holding account and are thinking of when we could travel again.

Our use year is March, and with our schedules, I doubt we will have the opportunity to travel again until after Christmas/New Years.

My wife has been to WDW twice in January, and although a little colder than she would have liked (half marathon 2006 and another trip this past Jan) we don't mind going that time of year.

If we are flexible, and avoid the MLK weekend and Feb breaks, do most think this is an easier time of year to book? We would even be willing to move or pay a night at a different hotel to get the ressie. We would hate to lose the points. Also thinking of renting, and may go that route if we can.

Thanks for your suggestions.

As long as you are flexible with dates and don't care which resort, I thing you should be able to find something. Refresh my memory....I know they have to be used in the last 60 days of the contract, but can you book it before 60 days out??? I would call the first possible day and just see what you can get. BTW, we LOVE the low crowds of January.

The way it was explained was this :

You have to make the reservation within 60 days of the visit. It does not have to be the last 60 days of the contract.

I think this is why you read a lot about people calling every day for the reservation. So - once you hit the time frame of 60 days, I guess people call and make a ressie for each day. My understanding is that it has to coincide with your checkout date. So when you hit 60 days, you cant make the full reservation because it would include days outside of the 60 day time frame.

However, we are flexible. We dont care what resort we stay at, and would also be willing to change resorts (hopefully not more than once).

We too enjoy going during the less crowded times. I will miss not going to the food & wine fest, I was looking forward to it!

Thanks

Just to let you know but this is incorrect. Hold points go by check IN date not check out date. I know that this confuses people because regular reservations go by check out date and you would think it would be the same. I just made a reservation this past week using hold points. The availability was not so great. I was looking for Nov 26-29 in any resort with a studio. Ended up with a studio Nov 27-29 but nothing available the 26th anywhere so I'm waitlisted.

Call 60 days from check in for your reservation and don't be surprised if you have to remind the cm's on the phone that hold points are different and they are by check in date.

Thanks for the info!! Surprised that those dates are tough (being after thanksgiving). But I heard that it is a popular time for DVC people to go after Thanksgiving and the first few weeks of december. Good luck with your waitlist day

Thanks, Good luck with your upcoming reservation. I was a little surprised to have problems with those dates. I knew that they would be tricky but a thought that I'd get something available if I split up the dates. Like 1nt ssr, 1nt okw, 1nt somewhere else but no such luck. If the waitlist doesn't come through it'll be all star music for us. Not a big deal but I was hoping to save the money. Again, good luck.
