6 year old little girl kicked off cheer squad

In the GMA clip the mother said she had been talking with the cheering officials (coaches, whatever you call them) about this for 2 weeks before she went to the media.

And the other parents interviewed disagreed with her. They ALL said she went to the media first and that is why they unanimously voted to remove Kennedy from the team for this season.

Funny how not a single other parent on the team has stepped up to support her version of the story.

And the mother herself admits that the team gave her the option to have her daughter sit out that cheer before they voted her off the team. That was a reasonable compromise.

But Mom would have nothing of it. She wanted the cheer changed, period.

I don't like the cheer at all. It dumbs down cheerleading and many areas of cheer have been working hard to get away from the stereotypes of this cheer. Doing that kind of stuff just sets it back.

However, the Mom was given a reasonable compromise as the other parents apparently approved of this cheer. She should have just said, 'no thank you" and found another team.

There are plenty of legit teams out there that would not use that kind of cheer.

I sat on the board of our local rec league for over 12 years. Not for a minute do I believe this happened the way it's been presented. I believe she was asked to step down, but I'm sure there was far more to the story than just "they didn't like that we complained so they kicked her off". There had to have been other issues surrounding either the girl or the parents that would have made the board even suggest they leave and the rest of the board back it up.

As far as that particular cheer, it's been around for well over 20 years so I guess they didn't choose to remove it or even offer that as an option. :confused3

A slightly different slant on the story.

Why would they admit it? They want to keep their daughters on the squad.

The other parents/cheer officials didn't handle the situation very well at all. I don't really get this Survivor mentality that if you don't like someone, just vote them off the island. I guess in the heat of the moment everyone was just thinking of getting rid of the mom, and they didn't take it into consideration that the real person they were getting rid of was the daughter. In real life, if you're the boss you might get to fire people - but generally you have to work with people you don't like. Kids have to learn this early to survive in school. Yet these parents' solution to dealing with someone they don't get along with - get rid of her.

And how is this any worse than what the parents of the little girl did? They didn't like something the whole group was doing and liked so they wanted everyone to change for THEM. The heck with what the majority wants my one child is more important than any of the other children.

I much prefer the majority rules over special snowflakes and everyone bending to the wants of 1.
In group situation you have to do what is best or what is wanted by the most people. they chose to want it their way only so they lost.

remember one person one vote concept?

Please don't get me wrong. I don't think the mom handled it well either.

I have to agree.

If the mother went to the media after she went through internal channels, then it is even worse.

Per the mother's own admission during the GMA interview, the team offered the mother a compromise - have your daughter sit out the cheer that you find questionable.

It was a reasonable compromise that allowed the parents who didn't mind the cheer have their kids do it and the kids who didn't like the cheer to sit it out. Everybody wins.

However, the mother didn't like that compromise. The only solution for her was for the organization to do it her way - change the cheer period. Despite the fact that the other parents voted unanimously to keep the cheer.

So, when they told her they wouldn't change the cheer, like a toddler who doesn't get her way she threw a fit with the media. If she didn't like the solution, she should have said, "no that won't work for our family" and then found another team. The mother sounds like a snowflake child that has never really grown up.

It is like some activities at school, be it a controversial movie, book or the statement by the President that was done last week. Parents have the choice to have their children opt out of the activity. Parents do not have the option of telling the school they have to do away with the activity just because they don't like it. Unfortunately, in situations like that, majority rules.

I happen to agree with the mom that the cheer is outdated and is not a good reflection on what cheer is all about in today's world.

However, I am on the side of the cheer organization in that they tried to offer up a solution in having Kennedy sit out the cheer, but Mommy Snowflake did not get her way so went running to the media.
