6-seater golf cart - dream or nightmare ?

Disclaimer - I would title this "convince me to rent 2 carts from Kenny" but I am afraid...
We are planning trip # 6 to FW and since we come only every 3-5 years, the family grows between trips (funny how that happens...)!

Having a golf cart and looping around the Fort is a big part of the fun.

But - we are now 3 adults and 3 DGDs 13,12,& 6.

We arrive 1 PM on a Friday, rent a minivan at the airport, have 2 cabins, and depart 5 PM Sunday (9 nite trip).

I could use some input on my 2 options for golf carts:

The simple and probably most sensible way is to get two 4 seaters from Kenny around 3 pm and just head on over to see the Mouse.

But there's a little voice in the back of my head that asks for a 6 seater from GCE. (It goes away when I take my pills.) Heeelp Meeeee!

SO:

I have no idea if the minivan we will rent has a hitch but I'd guess that could be arranged ?
GCE has no trailers for their 6 seater, so I would have to put Mom, luggage, and DGDs on Magic Express, rent the minivan, go by U-haul to rent a flat 6 x 12, get to GCE, load up and drive to FW.
Plus pay extra fee to return the cart on a Sunday and go through the reverse hassle when we leave.
For what I will have spent on trailer / cart / and time - seems as if 2 smaller carts from Kenny is if not a whole lot cheaper at least a whole lot less headaches.

In the mean-time Mickey is getting PO'd 'cause we're wasting fun time.

OR - pixiedust: there's a U-Haul next door to GCE and the whole project is about an extra 30 mins side trip from airport via GCE and on to the Fort?

If anybody has done this (or knows the lay-out between the Fort and GCE) is option 2 maybe not quite as bad as I am imagining Heeelp Meeee! and at all worth considering ????

Disclaimer: If you give me what turns out to be in my opinion bad advice I will not hold you responsible for ruining our trip and the remainder of the lives of my 3 innocent heiresses.

We had a similar situation for 2 years straight. We rented 2 carts from Kenny. It's easier to find places to park, it's easier to move around, and when different family members want to do different things they can go their separate ways. (especially with teenage daughters!!) It's also much easier to rent from Kenny...he brings your carts right to your site/cabin and will pick them up when you tell him, again right at your site.

If you mentioned when you were going to be at the Fort, I apologize 'cause I missed it. If it's over Halloween or another somewhat busy time, like PP stated, it's a hassle parking at the marina and could be an inconvenience in some other instances..... But, having to rent a trailer for a 6-seater would be the deal breaker for us. We'd rent 2 in that case.

For our trip next month, DH wanted to get a 6er since it would be more convenient with MIL, strollers, etc., but having Kenny deliver a smaller one to the cabin was all we needed to hear. We'll be tight, but MIL and DS won't be on most of our looping adventures.

Wish the other guy would deliver because we'd probably rent the 6er on future trips, but for now, Kenny is our guy.

Don't think you will find a "rented" mini van with a hitch and just about every rental agreement I have seen has a "NO TOW" condition.

I rent a lot of trucks from Enterprise and they almost always remind you of the no tow rule. There's never a hitch and never a wiring harness. Hate to bust your bubble.

You could rent one 4-seater, then steal another one and frame the otters for it.

Gotta side with the 2 cart options (not so sure about the duct tapt :lmao:)

It'll be a little more money, but thanks to Kenny not a ton more. And it'll definitely be waaaaaaaaaay more convenient and waste much less time.

Plus I also agree with the PP who noted parking. I haven't seen many 6 seater carts around the Fort, but there definitely aren't a lot of places to easily park on if it's even a little busy.

Oh, and you forgot the best perk of 2 carts... 3am Drag Racing!!

Just kidding...... or am I? ;)

Thanks, all - I will give up on the 6-seater for now.

Maybe if Kenny getrs enough business he might consider expanding his inventory in the future.

For now the hassel free part wins hands down, and I guess the "no tow" deal is the obvious total obstacle.

Again, thanks!

The only reason I would dissuade you from the 6 seater golf cart is due to its size (which is the reason you want one in the first place). I have a Gem Car - which is about as long as a 6 seater golf cart. The GC parking at Meadows Pool and the marina is very hard to navigate with a larger/longer cart. If I had my way, our Gem would be gone and I would have another 4 seater club car.

I notice I DID forget to say when we will be there - late January / early February.

You will identify us as two carts full of people yelling at one another about which one took the wrong turn in the first place!

Oh, I dunno - I actually sort of enjoy sweating in long lines with hundreds of strangers and being rammed in the ankles with steam strollers... oh ... wait ... I forgot to take my pills...heeelp meeee!...:drinking:...there, thats better.

1st trip to WDW was in 1973 in August and at age 25 we didn't mind at all (or know the difference). Very next time was in January of 1976 and Disney reservationist (out of the blue, no less) suggested trying a "trailer" at the Fort (I recall the Contemporary & the Poly were maybe the only hotel choices on property then?) - and there has been no going back!

I guess if I had to choose between crowds and sweat WDW would win the contest, but not unless I had no other choice.

:rotfl:

Sounds like our trip last year. We had friends there at the same time (3 other MHs) and all rented 4 carts from Kenny. :scared1:

:cloud9: Well, I've already called Kenny and reserved 2 carts for the duration - for the moment, I am at peace...

I like your GEM car. It comes in handy all the time!:rotfl2:

Plus, PaPa Doc, having two carts will be a bonus I believe since you'll be in two cabins. It will allow some folks to go looping and some to go over to the pool (for example) instead of having to stand there and negotiate who gets to take the 6-seater. I think you made the right choice. ;)
