I posted this on the family board and havn't got much response.

My 5yo ds is getting to go to WDW for 7 days with his aunt uncle and 41/2 yo cousin. Wish I could to. They are picking up all cost.

My ds still wets at night as does his cousin and both wear pullups.

His cousin still has occasional daytime accidents and his dad was saying they plan to do pullups 24/7 with him as they are sure the excitement and likely extra soda will cause accidents. THey said they are even bringing swim diapers.

My brother wondered if I minded my ds being in pullups 24/7 as well as it would make it easier for his son. My son does real well at home but not sure how the excitement would affect him. I am only concerned that my son will get more lax in using the bathroom. He might even resist the daytime pullup.

Does anyone have a suggestion.

I have already been told about a notorized medical permission note.

If he is not comfortable with that idea then I wouldn't make him. It's one thing to wear them while your sleeping, but going back to wearing during the day would probably be uncomfortable and could be bad for his self-image. Try asking your son and see what his opinion is-I know he's only 5 but he's the one directly involved.
Good Luck on this and try not to worry to much (yeah right-I know I'm a mom too!).

This is a very difficult and personal decision to make...

How comfortable are you with this? When we went to Disney for the first time my boys were 5 and 6 and fully potty train, But I took some pull-ups with me just in case. The first day that we went to the Magic Kingdom my boys were so excited that we had an "accident" waiting in line(we had to go back to the hotel because even though I brought some shirts with me I did no have pants and underwears for them) after this I spoke to my boys and yes, I used the pull-ups 24/7. Still we had bathrooms breaks and I made sure that before getting in any rides we had to stop by the bathroom first. We had no problems and did not have my kids"regress" to any potty problems. My boys knew that the pull-up were for "just in case" and that even though they had them they had to still let me know when they needed a bathroom break.Another thing, we went in August and It was so hot that my kids drank a lot of water (you have to consider this)
this made them go to the bathroom a lot too...

But again speak to your brother and ask him if they have a plan for bathroom breaks how are they going to handle this, speak to your son and see how he feels about it, you'll be surprise sometimes with kids (they have very strong opinions) and go with what makes YOU and YOUR son more comfortable....:D

I also think that you need to talk to your son to get his opinion.

DD will be 6 in Aug, she did not use pull-ups when she was in WDW early this month. However, when she just turned 5, we used to get her in pull-ups when we knew we would be out for a long time, say when we went to six flags. We did talk to her to get her opinion.

My dd potty trained at 3yo. The last few trips we have made she did not use pull ups during the day (ages 4,5). I think if they have been potty trained a while then it shouldn't be an issue unless they regularly have accidents. The adults supervising them will just have to be prepared to make alot of bathroom breaks particularly before getting into a long line before a ride. We just took our 3 1/2 yo ds to another theme park and he did fine without a pull up. It is just a matter of remembering to take them to the bathroom (which I know can be a bother <I have three to take so I it seems I'm in bathrooms all day>). I would think that being in a pull up all day would not be that comfortable!

I think you should do what is best for YOUR son and HIS situation - you know your son best. Having said that - I realize you won't be with him and that may change things. When our son was just potty trained, we went to Myrtle Beach. When we were out and about during the day (amusement parks, shopping, etc.), dh wanted him in pull-ups. I absolutely refused because 2 days after we returned, he was starting preschool (he was going to be 3 the following month) and didn't want him regressing. Well, we were out one day and he had a huge accident. Dh had to take him in the rest room and clean him up, throw out his underwear, etc. Needless to say, we went out and bought pull-ups...... (I HATE to be proven wrong). He never did have any acccidents at school.
I know that doesn't help much- but I didn't want you to feel ignored!:wave2:

If your son is fully potty trained during the day and has not been in pull-ups for a while he may take offense to being put back in them. Definetly seek his opinion - 5 year olds definetly have strong opinions about something so personal!

Your 5 yo may prove to be a great model for his younger cousin. If his younger cousin sees him taking potty breaks often and not wearing a pull-up he may want to do the same. I know from experience with my almost 4yo accidents seem to happen b/c they do not want to take the time to go and are just so busy in their play. The nice thing about WDW is there is always a restroom close by. Make sure your brother is planning on frequent potty breaks and your son should be fine.

At night that is a different story - and since they both wear the pull-ups at night it should not be a problem.

I talked with my son last night about a pullup in the daytime. He initially wanted to know why and if he had to. I told him that his cousin would be wearing one and that it was just in case due to the long lines that could be there in mid August. He would still be expected to use the bathroom. It might also be that during somethings it might be hard to get to the bathroom quickly enough.

My brother was just concerned that an accident would be worse than wearing a pullup. THey seem to go on lots of trips and having been to WDW beforem, know that sometimes getting right to a bathroom is a problem (example on the bus between motel and the park, in some shows like fantasmic where there are lots of people). He said they will of couse try the bathroom frequently, especially before the long lines. He also said that they seem to drink more than normal which leads to more need for the bathroom. He also was concerned that when they got overtired they might be more prone to an accident.

My son agreed to wear the pullup, I think he thought it would be the only way to get to go. I told him that he would have to obey his uncle and do as told. He is real excited already don't know if we can wait til he leaves next week.

Glad to hear you discussed the issue with your son. Sounds like all will be well. Hope he has a great trip!!! :)
