5th gate on the horizon?

I think of all corporations, Disney and the EPA probably get along pretty well. Disney, and WDW in particular tends to be proactive about environmental concerns.

Disney could build a full theme park in 5 years if they so chose. That's about how long it took from shovels to opening in Shanghai. Hardly a small park.

Figure out when the very first permit for Disney Springs or Animal Kingdom was filed with the EPA then get back to me on your claim that it's not taking 10 years. For all we know AK's first paperwork could've been submitted to the government during the Reagan administration.

Right now there's massive "anti corporate" and "pro environment" leadership within the EPA. So I think there would be a ton of feet dragging in getting the paperwork finished. So, I stand by my statement: "There's no WAY an entire new park gets built within 10 years of the time Disney Execs agree to move forward on the project".

After all, we gotta save those endangered....whatevers.....in the Florida swampland!

I have never seen any evidence that Disney files with the EPA before doing construction. Environmental issues all go through the South Florida Water Management District while usually takes around 30 days to give approval.

Well building an entire park might require more/longer regulatory approval but Disney World is a special case compared to basically everywhere in the US.

I see no reason why it would be years. However, keep in mind that the OP on this has a track record of rhetorical exaggeration in their posts.

I ran across this article where the EPA did challenge Disney on a wetlands issue, but the article does say that the EPA has (at least at that time) no direct jurisdiction over what Disney does. SFWMD permits do sometimes go up to the Army Corp of Engineers who may or may not listen to the EPA's recommendations.

I would like to see a split land. something with thrill rides and interactive shows/rides. Like it or not, more and more people are looking for the big thrill rides.

If HS wasn't building a new star wars and toy story area, i'd say build a 5th gate based on that. Now, I don't know.

Whatever they build, I think you would be looking at 8/10 years from announcement to opening IF they built a new park.
We will prolly see more resorts built and existing parks expanded before a new gate is ever seriously talked about tho.

Oh... facts... where's the fun in them?

Did I tell you about Disney's plans for a 6th gate featuring Marvel, the Muppets and Roger Rabbit? It will be awesome and everyone will love it!

I want to go to there.

I miss Roger Rabbit. I wish they still had *SOMETHING* with him around. At least I might get my mini-Muppet land, though I'd really like a Muppet dark ride.

Sadly we're very unlikely to see Roger Rabbit featured heavily in the parks because of the revenue split.

With Muppets there's at least a chance of something.

Unfortunately with the show expected to be cancelled, that may throw a wrench in the plan. I wish they'd play it on Fridays or something. I had always envisioned a Muppet Show closer in line with a Tonight Show with celebrity guests (an updated "The Muppet Show", with a little more yammering).

Read the signature. The warning is right there in black and white!

Being pro-environment doesn't necessarily require being anti-corporation.

Absolutely...I can't stand when this is repeatedly spewed from cable "news"...

The fact is that safety and good environmental policy has been on the whole better for business than outdated practices or shortsighted business tactics to try and circumvent them.

The reality is that clean air, water, and a plentiful food supply are good for business as well. Might be for the organisms on this space rock too.

Anybody ever work with the EPA?

The perception that the EPA is somekind of progress blocking, stick wielding behemoth is ridiculous.

The reality is that all their codes are written to ensure minimum levels of actions and cost...and their code enforcement yields little actual oversight due to logistical limitations.

Remember that the EPA was designed and implemented under Nixon...and yet still it is far more progressive as a public service/vision than almost anything done since.

We have bloated wastes like homeland security now

My experience through my previous employer, wasn't so much they had an agenda either way. It was that the process is lengthened by public comment. Public is oversight required. In order to allow it, you need to allow time for people to comment. Not a bad thing, but those waiting periods add a significant time project completion dates.
