5th Avenue Disney Store

I walked over to the 5th Avenue store today and they have signs up saying they're closing for renovations on May 15 and will reopen sometime in October.

The castmembers I spoke to were all excited about the changes.

They're having a sale on their collectibles. If you spend up to $100 you get 25% off, $101-$250 is 30% off and over $250 is 40% off. The sale includes cells and WDCC pieces.

Do you know if they will give the discount over the phone and ship it out??

What kind of pieces of WDCC do they have?
What about cells??

My understanding is that when 5th Ave re-opens it will be a World of Disney store, run by WDW merchandising and not consumer products.

I wonder if the May closure will signal possible closures of more Disney Stores or if the "sale" is looming.

I really didn't have that much time to look around at the cells. They had a lot of them. They had a beautiful one of Cinderella that had three cells in the frame. That's about all I can remember offhand.

As for the WDCC pieces, the sale actually started in March, and it looked like they must have sold quite a few from what I remember from the last time I was there. They had the Monsters, Inc. group, they had a big Pinocchio piece -- maybe Gepetto's workbench, they had some NBC pieces. Sorry, but my mind is kind of muddled right now. My Mom is in the hospital, so I'm really not concentrating on much else right now.

As for whether they'd ship, you could try calling them at 212-702-0702 and ask. I don't know if I'll get the chance to go back next week.

It wasn't on sale, but I got a really cute plush of Sulley and Mike for my nephew for his birthday. It's a big Sulley and he has Mike in the crook of his arm, and when you take Mike out he's a finger puppet. I haven't seen it before. Unfortunately, that was the only Monsters Inc. toy I could find.

I didn't realize they still had collectibles. Last time I was in there they'd done away with the gallery part and filled it with twin beds to show off their children's sheets and comforters.

I called them about three weeks ago, and they were a bit picked over. They don't have any more member pieces, or any IASW pieces. It is my understanding that they can ship & discount you if you have a Team Disney Card.

An announcement was apparently made about this store changing to a WOD several months ago. It may have been on a local level, though (ie NYC). The fact that this store is closing for the renovation has nothing to do with the rest of the chain & their future. Sorry to disappoint you, exdisvet.
