Is there a point when 5Ks are no longer beneficial? Should I quit them at some point in the half-marathon training.

here is what I have (potentially) lined up so far:

Should I just skip the 5Ks that are after the 10Ks? They are they day after long run days so they will interfere with that part of it but I'm sure I could work around it.

See, I'm addicted and I haven't even ran ONE yet! lol

We're already looking for a full to next year. Honolulu sounds nice and its over a year away. lol

I don't think so. They are a shorter run but most people run them faster then they train so that is beneficial. I wouldn't substitute a long run for them but making them your short tempo run for the week makes sense.

Agreed....

Looking at your schedule just make sure that you are not forgetting the long run.

One thing that could be useful is to attempt running one or more of these races at training pace, not 5k/10k pace. This enforces the "I need to run my own pace" mental game you must play in a half. Regardless of where you start in a long race you will be surrounded by folks of all capabilities (or running like they are at other capabilities). In the first 1-3 miles of your half you will pass some and feel like you are being left in the dust by even more. You must run your pace regardless of the urge to keep up with those pssing you. A short race run slowly is a great mental game that will help develop the toolset required.

I run at least a race every month. If it works out as my long run I will use it as such but if it's not it's just an added run to my usual schedule. I do them because I enjoy them and they are little reminders of what I'm training for.

We narrowed our list down to this:

10/2 - 5K - http://www.freedomsrun.org/

10/16 - 5K - St. Jude 5K

10/31 - 10K - MCM 10K
OR
11/14 - 10K - Veteran's Day 10K through DC....sounds really cool. They have a warm up with a drill seargent! lol http://www.runwashington.com/veteran...nformation.htm

11/25 - 5K - Thanksgiving morning Turkey Trot

12/11 - 5K - Reindeer Run
OR
12/18 - 5K - Jingle Bell Run

I forgot about all of the entry fees X 3! lol

I will do the first one to see what I am capable of at that point in time. Then decide on how to do the other later. :thumbsup2
