Hi everyone,

I just received the email with final instructions for the 5K and I still have several questions since this is my first race ever.

I signed up for the race when registration first started. I not doing this for a competition aspect but for fun and health. I was training to run the race but after an achilles injury my doctor said that I have to walk it.

Anyways, for those that have done this race before I have some (possibly stupid) questions that I am hoping you can help with:

1. If not staying on property, where do cars park?
2. Are there characters along the route? If so do we need to carry a camera or are their photographers there to take pics?
3. I read that there are photographers along the route. Approximately how many pics do they get of you?
4. For the 5K do most people wear their race shirts or their normal running outfit?

That's all I can think of right now. If you have any other advice or tips that might help, I would greatly appreciate it!

1) Parking. I took the bus last January but for the EE5K and Minnie weekend they had people directing traffic to where they wanted you to park.

2) Characters - we didn't have any in Jan'08. But they are saying there will be for this year's. So my fingers are crossed that they will be there. For character photos you need to have your own camera, there won't be photopass or proffesional cameras with the characters.

3) BUT! There ARE professional cameras around the course taking photos as you race. They are ASI and going from memory....

Besides the start which is really a group start photo.

You next ASI guy should be as you cross the bridge leading into Africa, you will go right and I think he was on the right side of the path taking photos. They are not up high so you won't spot them till almost on them. I can't remember the exact spot but between that bridge and before you head out on the out and back portion.

Once you return from the out/back backstage portion I think there was another ASI dude between your re-entrance and Everest. I think it was closer to Everest but can't recall.

On the bridge heading towards the Nemo show. With Everest at your back. There was a couple of photographers there.

And one last one in Dinoland. I think they try to get that long necked yellow dino in the photo.

Then it's time to get ready and smile big for your finishline photos :woohoo:

4) Shirts. I wore my WISH shirt for the race and then wore the Race shirt they gave us later that day with the medal :thumbsup2 We returned to AK later after a shower for some photos. There will be plenty in the race shirt for the race and plenty of people wearing what they normally wear. Go with what works for you. The thing with wearing a new shirt for a race is chafing.

And if your not wearing a WISH shirt be sure to holler out to us so we can cheer extra loudly for you :thumbsup2 I know a few will be around cheering. Sadly spectators are not allowed in the park but I am planning on heading to the entrance to cheer from there :cheer2:

Bummer about the injury, I hope it heals quickly for you. regardless it's a wonderful way to spend the morning. running/walking it's a beautiful park to greet the day in :thumbsup2 Take care and see ya there!!!!

I'll be doing the 5K, too. I also had an injury during training (knees for me), so my doctor said I shouldn't run. But, I'm going to go with the method I used for my first 5K on Thanksgiving morning: 5 minute quick walk, 5 minute fast walk and 5 minute run, repeated 3 times. I did end up with a bit of knee pain after the first 5K, but I figure it's worth it.

I'm really looking forward to this event! Pretty bummed it's not going to be individually timed, but I'll have my friend keep track of my finishing time for me.

I plan to just wear my usual running gear (my Champ Car/pirate look) although I'm bringing some other gym gear, in case it's cold that morning. I'll wear the offical race shirt later in the day or the next day.

Hope to see you out there, DisneyTampa! Have fun!!

I didn't, my Mom finished and was well DONE :rotfl: She wanted on the a/c bus back to the resort LOL

But a quick search at ASI shows they did have the backgrounds up and photos.

I'm pasting the link to last years 5K photos :)

if you click the MEDAL PHOTO from the drop down they show the background. The main photo on the front page is the one where they get you as you cross the bridge.

below is the link to the 2009 Race photos for when they are loaded. Expect about a week. I don't recall when the 5K was loaded in 2008.

Have fun next weekend!!!!

:wave2: DisneyT and Magix!
This is the first time in a while that the 5K has not been timed. Last year, the same instructions were given about the pace and no strollers..but there were quite a few people with baby strollers in the race, as well as quite a few people who finished well over the 15 min pace. I was recovering from an injury last year, so was slower than my usual slow pace (:lmao: ) and there were a lot of people still behind me. Enjoy the event!!

There will be a section with photographers to take pictures of you with your medal after you get your water and banana/bagel. You may have to stand in line a while, depending on how many photographers are there!

I'll be in the red, white, and blue Uncle Sam hat and my WISH shirt cheering you on at the start and finish!! :goodvibes Anne

Thanks for all the tips and support!!! I can't wait to see everyone!

I don't have a WISH shirt so I will be wearing my normal running gear. I will make sure to let yall know that I'm a DISer when I see yall!!

Please do!!!! You might get a quizzical look at first as we try to pin a name to a face but listen closely you could hear a loud screaming of your name just after you pass. I remember doing that last year. Anne would say that was Steve and I'd be like who? And she'd supple the userID and I'd be like oh yes.... GO STEVE GO!!!! LOL There might be a delayed reaction especially if it's me :lmao: Nothing personal but let us remembr I DID enter a new age group this year and that's my story/excuse :thumbsup2

See ya on Friday!!!!! I will be wearing a WISH shirt and we do gather so make sure you come up and say Hi, that will hopefully make the face/outfit stick in my/our memory so we can start screaming louder when we see ya ;)

I'll keep an eye out for you guys when I arrive and will come say "hi" if I see you in time. Should be easy to spot me when running, I'll be wearing a black bandana with a white skull and crossed cutlasses right on the forehead!

Anne: The 5K wasn't timed last year. Disney doesn't time races unless the do chips. Most 5K's at Disney are that way.

Thanks once again to everyone for all your support and advice!!

My mom was going to be doing the 5K with me but recently was in a car wreck that makes it difficult for her to walk long distances. Does anyone know if you will be able to rent the scooters from AK that early in the morning?
