I have a friend who had this condition about 2 years ago. She is a 12 year breast cancer survivor and was totally freaked out when she learned she had a brain tumor. It was successfully removed (she did lose most hearing in that ear but she hears fine in the other) and is doing well. She was out of commission for a while after the surgery. Good luck to you.

My FIL had this condition and had the tumor removed (he did lose hearing in that ear). 9 1/2 years later, he is doing fine.

A friend who went to Disney with us two years ago had this, and she too lost hearing in that ear and had a bit of Bell's palsy on one side of her face for a few months, but it corrected.

I am an audiologist and I work for an ENT so I have some experience with acoustic neuromas. Most of the doctors I have worked with usually refer to a neurosurgeon for surgery rather than doing the surgery themselves, although one of the doctors I work with is a otoneurologist and he does perform the surgery. A lot of patients have great success with gamma knife surgery but I don't know if that would be an option for you. Most patients do lose their hearing, however if your hearing has not been affected up to this point, you may be able to retain some of the hearing. I am going to bed now, but I will be happy to answer any questions that I can if you would like to PM me. I know this must be very scary for you, but the patients I have known about with this problem have all done extremely well. Good luck and try to stay positive.
