$550 for two roundtrip EWR -> MCO?

Planning my trip for Sept. 29-Oct. 4, found this fare with Continental. That's $550 for two of us, including taxes, etc. Is that good? I've never booked a flight before so I'm unsure of what to expect.

Sounds good to me, we're paying $610 r/t leaving Newark at about 8:30 a.m. and leaving MCO at about 2:45 or something like that. $550 is good for today's rates, they seem to be going up and up!

Sounds steep to me!! I've bought two airline tickets in the last couple of weeks for work-related trips, and fares seem to be down from what I'm used to paying. Have you tried any of the discount carriers - Independence, Southwest, etc.?

That sounds steep to me too. Would you consider flying out of Philadelphia? There are many more direct flights to Orlando from Philadelphia than Newark. I just plugged your dates into Travelocity.com and it came up with 20 non-stop flights ranging in price from $181 per person to $201 per person.

We live a little closer to Philadelphia than Newark, but we fly out of either airport depending on where we can get the best flights or rates. It really depends on what city you are flying to as to which airport has the better flights and rates, but I consistently find Philadelphia to be considerably cheaper and have much better flight choices for Orlando.

WOW that is alot of money, we just spent for two tickets to mco from JFK airport with jetblue 310.00 roundtrip for two people , flying at 10:00am going and coming home flying at 1130am, If you did not book it then you may want to change to jfk airport it is always cheaper at that airport than ewr, but if you cant travel to jfk then it is not worth it for you.

Southwest is having some great deals right now. I just paid $80pp rt. Total with fees & all was $381 for 4 people from Nashville-Orlando.

That sounds really steep to me. I fly out of Manchester, NH and have never paid that much. I would definitely check Southwest, but keep in mind they don't come up on a Travelocity search.

You may also want to try the flysong website. They are a Delta subsidiary and great to fly.

That said, I have paid as little at $187 out of EWR pp and as much as $357 in a pinch,

Also check out flying into Tampa instead of MCO. We got Air Tran EWR to Tampa for $69 each way. Around $500 something for 3.

We are flying out of Providence in June for 115pp round trip on Southwest.

That's actually a decent price for Continental out of Newark. Newark is always more expensive than Philly, JFK, or Atlantic City.

It is a bit early to worry about plane tickets. Traditionally, airfares are lowest about 21 days in advance (and then possibly a few days before, but you don't want to take a chance on that). Flights out of Minneapolis to MCO right now for late April/May are about $145-165. If you sign up at travelocity.com, they will sent you an email alert when the fares change and you can track prices that way.

That's actually a decent price for Continental out of Newark. Newark is always more expensive than Philly, JFK, or Atlantic City.

Looking back, although we might have gotten a cheaper flight somewhere, we got the flights we wanted at the times we wanted. And our frequent flyer miles are all Continental. We don't fly that often and try just to use Continental. They eventually add up. We managed to fly down in October for free. And now, the flights we already have booked ($610 r/t for two) are over $800, so all in all I'm pretty satisfied.

That price is extremely high! We too usually fly out of Newark...as we are from Bergen County, but opted to book through Laguardia on Song for the fall! We are paying $625 for 5- roundtrip tickets! According to travelocity website, LAguardia is only 12 miles from Newark! Yeah Right!

So far, it seems like I will get a better price by going to either LaGuardia or Philly, but the fare I saw for Newark is pretty average, (or maybe slightly below) as Newark fares go. And I might find lower fares still, since it's over 6 months away.

Now, I live smack in the middle of Somerset County, NJ. That means that on a weekday morning, Newark will be the easiest to get to for me. Will the fares be lower enough to justify what seems like a significantly longer drive to the airport?
