Well, if I could get the Entertainment rate at HoJo, it would cost $420 for 7 nights. It's the same distance, great pool, rooms big enough for 5, great service, and a savings of hundreds of dollars. I dunno, it's just no contest for me. We stayed at GCH and it was beautiful, but never again at that price!

--and it was built by the same persone who built Disneyland hotel. The monorail doesn't even go to Disneyland hotel anymore...

We have been staying at the disneyland hotel since I was a kid, so it is more nostalgic than anything. We are DVC members, so we use our points. I think that there are just different strokes for different folks. As longs as we are all hanging with the mouse, everything seems fine with me.

You are absolutely right...the monorail station was not moved just remodeled.

I've only stayed at the DLH once and that was when I was very little. They hung a paper Mickey Mouse mask on the door and I was thrilled with it.

I thought we would stay there or GCH for our anniversary because it is a special occasion. But then, when I realized we could stay somewhere else for a week for the same price as a few days, that won out. We will be at the Embassy Suites South for a week for $150 a night. Even that is a lot for us, but with a very nice free breakfast, managers reception in the evening, and a suite, I think it will be nicer than staying on property.

For larger families, you can get a room with 2 beds in the bedroom and a hide away bed in the "living room". So it might be a good option for a five member family. At least, others I've been to had this so I assume the one there would too. I haven't stayed at that one before. The only downside is you have to drive or take ART to DLR, but to me that is small compaired to the perk of the nice breakfast.

I agree with someone who mentioned that it is also different traveling with young kids. A short walk is extremely important. To me, taking a shuttle or ART when a quick walk could do it just doesn't make sense. I also agree that the DTD walk is much better than harbor. I am trying very hard not to switch my hojo reservations over to DLH.

OP, dont get down. I never stayed onsite back in the day...my family was always on a budget. And we were fine with that. My family is of the theory though that once you stay with disney you never go back

If you are close enough to disney and can go quit often, then the on sites maybe a nice treat and we could lounge in the pool each day and take advantage of all the things they have to offer , but frankly to most of us long shot travelers thats just not the case. I get to go one time a year, and in that time its full on season so the parks are packed and its hot. Staying on site we would see that expensive room only after trying to get i a full days park time, and at there prices there is no way. now if we went often, we would take more time out to lounge, relax around the pool, etc. but for a place to only sleep at night its so not worth it. get up, get dressed run to the park, go back in the afternoon and rest a few hours, then back until closing and then to bed. nope not worth it to me. when the motels are across the street, and we can do the same thing in about the same amount of time for hundreds less.
In my old age I am frugal and can not see blowing good play money that could be used to eat at the nicer restaurants, and bringing home souvenirs with all the extra money I would have spent on a room I will hardly see.
The fairfield room is even closer then the hojo, and has rave reviews ( I will let you know my thoughts when I get back) So for me, saving about 1,000 dollars on a room, to play more in the parks and get fun gifts is so much better.

I have stayed at the motels in Disneyland, And I will not go back. all that wasted money. and I take my grand babies every year and they do fine walking across the street to the hotel. in fact love it since there is food out there as well the like better.

I think your numbers are really off. It depends on the night, but the average price (without AAA or even an anual pass) for the DLH is typically around 270ish. If you want a view room (which we almost always spring for) it is a little more--closer to 290ish.

When we stay at the GC, it the price is higher, like in the 330 range, I think. I would have to double check that one. We have only stayed in the GC twice, but at the DLH many, many times.

We never do concierge--for us the price simply isn't worth it. We always eat so much at meals at Disneyland that I can't imagine needing so many snacks anyhow. I know there are other benefits, but it is too costly to work for us as a family.

We really like staying at the DLH, and find it to be a really enjoyable and important part of our vacation to the parks. We have stayed at many hotels across the U.S. (usually resorts--that is what we like), and the price seems to be right there in the middle of it. A few summers ago we stayed at the Del Coronado in San Diego, and that was much more pricey. In Hawaii we stayed at the Hyatt Regency Resort, and that was super pricey! But there are benefits to staying onsite at an actual resort that can make the trip much more enjoyable.

This next I am taking is just for my daughter and me, and we are trying Hojo for the first time, and I am certain it will be nice too.

I'm sure someday we'll take the plunge - probably with my parents because they enjoy the finer things in life.

I'm also sure that we could get a much cheaper rate at some point. The particular day that I priced was for May 30th, in case anyone is interested. I know it probably is because of the time of year for the higher price. Also, I'm sure there are plenty of people, like some of my friends and parents too, who really don't care to do much deal-searching or spend night upon night trying to find a way to save a buck, and that is why they can have 95% occupancy. My parents find it much more comforting to just purchase direct from Disney and just be done with it. I, somehow, slipped through the cracks and I enjoy my deal-hunting midnight searches. Sometimes I try hard to break the habit and just "go for it" and "enjoy the moment" but I guess it comes down to what I said before - maybe we're just too cheap!

Kudos to all those who love and stay there...wanna take me sometime? And who knows what the future holds - kids and magic and all that pixie dust just might sway us for all the wonderful reasons to stay there.

May 30 with an AP...with only the basic 10% discount, and NOT including taxes or resort fee: standard view is 243 and concierge is 441. Just to get a glimpse of even the basic AP discount on the rooms.

You do get the full "Disney Experience" & I suggest everyone should stay at a Disney property once, but my money is better spent on other things. After a full day at the park, does it matter where you sleep? I mean as long as your room is clean & comfortable. I am a Disneyland veteran,& AAA Member.

I just looked thru Costco for a 8 day, 7 night stay at DLH and it was $1835.00. This was for May 30-June6. This includes 8 day hopper tickets, either a character breakfast, or a dinner at one of the DLR hotel restaurants for 2, lanyards, etc. I hope you have a great time at Disneyland where ever you stay!

My DGF and I stayed a DLH many years ago and found it to me uniquely Disney but not worth the money. I love to get the best deal I possible can but it has to have some of the features that make us comfortable.

I was just doing some price checking and almost fell out of my chair when I saw that one night at the Disneyland hotel was $535!! Now granted, that price was concierge level. So I took that off and the price was still $335. So lesson learned, some free snacks and drinks are not worth $200 for one night at a hotel (and not even 24 hrs!!). Also, learned that DH and I will never be staying in DLR property hotel...

I'm just wondering, does anyone know anyone who would pay $535/night? I mean I guess they can charge that because people will pay it...but really?

I only stay at DLH at special AP rates like "AP8." I'm okay paying $169 to $189 per night there. The proximity, the Disney touches, the superior pool, the walk through DTD as opposed to a street make the price just right for my family. Yes, it does matter where I sleep.

No, I would not pay $335 or $535, but there are lots of people who do and I think that's fine.
