We're setting sail in a few weeks for my in-laws' 50th anniversary. Usually when we cruise, we do door magnets, fish extenders, and all that. But I've heard with Concierge rooms you can't do those things. Is that true? If so, are there other things that I could have made to surprise them and help them celebrate? Most of the family will NOT do matching shirts. I was thinking at least some fun buttons. But that seems really lame compared to door decorating and fish extender gifts!!

We cruised for my parents' 50th last summer. TR link is in my signature.

I made a little banner for their fish and shirts for them. I also did matching conch backpacks for everyone in the group with a DISign celebrating the event. I just ironed the image on cotton bags.

I cannot speak to door magnets and concierge, but I have participated in FE exchanges with people in concierge cabins. So I think if you wanted to participate in FE that would be just fine. However if you're sailing in just a few weeks it may be too late to join a group.

Thank you!! I love the idea of the bags!

I think most of the family has FEs already, so it would just be for a small exchange among ourselves. If it's possible to do them in the concierge cabins, I'll go ahead and have them all bring them their extenders and I'll make the treats myself. Thank you!!

We've done both door magnet decorations and FE hanger, (for four of us), while in a concierge suite. No restrictions that I know of. The door looks different but it is still metal.

Have fun on your well earned celebration. My wife and I are celebrating our 40th on our Sept cruise.

check out the stateroom decorations on DCL's web site. There maybe something that works

Have decorated wood concierge doors on Dream and Fantasy. They are not magnetic however so I just bring along masking tape to adhere our decorations. I have never had any problem. There were plenty of fish extenders on the 12th floor concierge rooms on the dream this week.

As above.

The Dream and Fantasy doors have a wood veneer and it's very hard for magnets to adhere to correctly. I do not think masking tape is approved.

Magic and Wonder are fine, but the doors have now been over painted so many times, it's become difficult as well.

We were the ones on the Dream concierge with our FEs this week!! We did not end up decorating the doors because I did not know you could use tape on them. But we were able to surprise my inlaws with fun stuff at every turn!!

If you buy heavy duty magnets at the hobby store, you can affix one or two to the back of your door signs with double sided tape (I used that thick foam-type tape to attach disc magnets to the backs of my signs). That seemed to hold up just fine. Regular magnet sheets will not stick on the Dream / Fantasy concierge doors. Magnet sheets are starting to fall off the classic ships, too - probably from the painting issue that Disney Fantasy was talking about above. We just celebrated our 25th on the Fantasy in April - make sure it's noted on your parents' reservation, so they get special surprises the entire trip. Have fun!! Fish extenders in concierge work like any other room.

With the light up glasses frames? We were in 12518! Had a blast!

I don't think they generally let you use tape because it might damage the door. We have used heavy duty magnets for the concierge doors on the Dream and Fantasy with no problems.

We just got back from celebrating my parents 50th anniversary at Aulani and much like your group, there was no way most of our group was going to wear matching shirts. Like the above poster said, how about a bag? I did beach bags for everyone that were personalized. the main word age was "Mom & Dad's 50th anniversary, Hawaii 2016." The kid's said "grandma & grandpa...", & my parent's bag said "our..." The fab 5 were on the bags & everyone got different colors to lessen confusion. They came in handy throughout the trip and were a real hit. Super easy & I ordered them through zazzle on the Disney store website.

Don't use tape.

Do (if you want to do magnets) use the heavy duty magnets. The doors are metal but have wood veneer over them, so you have to use strong magnets.

FEs are totally fine. I personally wish the people down the hall from us on our last ocncierge cruise had taken things out of their FEs every so often, because the stuff inside of them ended up strewn all over the floor (and no, no one cleared it up overnight), but they certainly were having FE exchanges.

Now that Dream and Fantasy don't have the awful gates up, FEs are totally fine.
