50's PT or Sci Fi for sensitive kids?

I haven't been to either 50's Prime Time or Sci Fi. The theming at both looks great. My girls are shy, sensitive and scare easily. (Yeah, fun.) Anyway, if ODD gets 'picked on' at 50's PT she will loose it. So I thought, maybe Sci Fi will be better. Not sure about the movie clips, though. She had nightmares from watching some of 'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.'

Anyone have any thoughts? :confused3

Haven't been to 50s PT, so I can't comment on that, but we were at Sci-Fi. Neither one of my kids (DD6, DS3) were scared at all of the movie clips. And DS3 was scared of practically anything dark or scary on the rides and in the parks. While the screen is large, it's well back from the tables, so there's nothing even remotely close that would potentially scare somebody. In fact the kiddos were so mesmorized by the screen, they didn't actually eat much for dinner. I found the clips more corny and surreal, than scary. But in the end, you know your DD best.

I say Sci Fi. You could always grab a table in the back and face them away from the screens :)

Your server at 50s starts on you right away. Probably before you get a chance to tell them to "cool it." Plus it's pretty close in there and they'll see the antics around them.

Of course... there's always Mama Melrose, yum! :wizard:

Normally i'd say Sci Fi clips are quite harmless, the clips really are cheesy....but since your kids got scared from "cloudy with a chance of meatballs", i'd say AVOID BOTH PLACES!! No way she's be comfy with either one to be honest.

Just curious, which part in Cloudy with a chance of meatballs did she find scary? its been a while. And i dont recall any scary parts?

Do not go to Sci-Fi!!!!! My 10yo is very similar....she scares VERY easily (cannot handle the later HP movies or even the Goosebumps series on TV). I was't really aware of her extreme sensitivity on our first trip to WDW which was for her 7th birthday. We ate at Sci-Fi and to this day she still vividly remembers how scared she was and is actually terrified we will go back there again. She still brings it up so I know it definitely affected her.

I have never been to 50s PT so I can't help with that one.

I would go with Prime Time and just let your server know that the antics would bother your kids.

Honestly I'd skip both. I haven't been to Sci-Fi in awhile but can remember some of the clips and they might be borderline scary for her. And as great as 50's PT is, you won't have time to explain to the server about your DD before they start going on.

If you HAD to do one, I'd say 50's. You might be able to say something to the hostess who might be able to say something to the server.

If Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs scared your kid, then Sci Fi will, too. My kids are not scared of that movie, even the littlest one, and they've been exposed to MST3K a lot, since I'm a huge fan, so B-grade sci fi movies are just background noise to them at this point, lol. So we're doing Sci Fi. But there's no way they would be OK at PTC. My oldest would cry the first time the server said anything to anyone at the table, and my youngest one would probably start screaming "Stop being mean to my sister!!" LOL

I prefer 50's PT over Sci Fi. I like the food better at PT. I've never really gotten picked on too bad, only to keep my elbows off the table and put my napkin in my lap (my food wasn't even out yet!). Sci Fi is dark and there are goofy sci fi clips but if DD scares easy, she may not like it from the moment she walks in.

Love this show!!! :thumbsup2 Is it still on somewhere or do you have DVDs?

To the OP, I would skip both places. The food isn't great enough at either of them to risk upsetting her.

I have to say as a family we are pretty shy, reserved people. But my son is particularly shy. We have dined at 50's Prime Time (and Sci-Fi) many times. My DS actually loves it.

We have not been bothered by any of the waiters/waitresses at 50's Prime Time. They seem to be really good at picking who is just not into over the top antics. So we have been left alone every time. But we absolutely love watching the way they carry on at other tables around us. We went with friends once too and the waiter really just picked on my friends DH, left all of the kids and the mothers alone, it was hilarious.

Sci Fi ~ The FOOD IS THE SCARY THING--it's NASTY. The films can be a little creepy...I wouldn't say scary. They only last a few seconds and are very verrry boring. When our son was 2.5 he wasn't scared. He was fascinated with the little car you eat in:) We'll never eat there again though. Way over rated.
50's PT isn't that bad. DS was 9 and he loved it. He is very shy but not so that he would cry if they picked on him. They really don't pick so much on kids by like being MEAN or embarrasing or anything (especially if they see they are like that) it's mainly the grown ups and the kids get a kick out of it!! DS was falling out of his seat laughing at DAD getting into trouble!! It's alot of fun;)

50's will be fine. Just let your server know. I'm a pretty shy type person myself and had no problems.

Thanks everyone! I've definitely ruled out Sci-Fi. Thinking about 50's. I thought the theming looks so fun there. I can prepare her and let the server know she'll probably be ok.

I'd avoid the scifi under the circumstances. I think you could do 50's without a problem. Just give the restaurant a call or even stop buy earlier when your at the park ask to see a manager and explain breifly that you'd like it to be an uneventfull dining experience. I think that the staff at 50's is amazing even the chef was super sweet about my food allergies. The food is ok but it is themed after 50's so I wouldn't expect crazy amazing out of it's good though. I know our server saw that my nieces were shy so I got picked on but it was ok with me. I don't think you should change dining plans and I think if you let them know it will be ok. Enjoy your trip.

i have a 4 year old son who has sensory issues & HE LOVED Sci fi- Every child is different & only you really know how your children would be. I took a chance w/ this one & I am happy that I did. They played a tom & jerry cartoon (he loves them) some great snack advertisments.& a few ads w/ Walt himself in it.. Sci Fi isnt loud like Prime time can be & they had awesome milk shakes!

Whatever you choose I wish you a wonderful time.

Yep, definitely skip Sci-Fi if "Meatballs" was scary.

I agree that you should be OK with 50's. You might want to let your kids know that the servers are supposed to pick on the adults: my DD7 was upset that the waitress was mean to me because I wasn't eating my veggies.
