:confused3 I've made ressies for 50's, but not really sure if that's the place we want to go. For some reason, it just doesn't appeal to me even to read about it. Does anyone have any other suggestions? This is our first time at Disney so any advice would be appreciated. So what is your favorite restaurant? and why? Thanks for your input!

July 2-10, 2006 @ Pop Century

I don't have any suggestions because I have never ate at any of the ts in DS. But I didn't think 50's was for me because I didn't like the idea of someone telling me "Eat your veggies or no dessert" type of thing.

We have had several meals at 50's Primetime over the past few years. We started when the kids were about 7-12. They loved the fact that the waiter gave them all nicknames (Skippy, Scooter, Princess) and that their parents were "yelled at" for putting elbows on the table, not finishing their beans, etc. The adults liked looking at the old kitchen stuff, some of it right out of our Grandma's kitchen!

Fast forward to this past April. The kid's (now 11-17) all put this restaurant down as one of their MUST DO requests. In fact, we ended up eating there twice.

I would advise this restaurant for families who have children from ages 6-14. The kids should be able to take a bit of teasing without being bothered by it. (A survival skill learned early in our family.) The adults need to be willing to play along to make it fun for the kids.

A warning. On our last visit, the table next to ours included a little boy about 4-years old who hardly ate any of his dinner. The waitress "scolded" him pretty severely and he ended up in tears. We all felt the waitress went too far and should have read the warning signs that the kid was not up for this type of treatment. If I were his parent, I would have talked to the manager and left no tip.

In addition to the "show," we have always liked the food at 50's and felt it was a good value for the price.

I hope this helps in your decision!

we've eaten at the 50s many times over the years - my DH loves the place, and especially the pot roast - me, i personally don't care for the hovering "mom" waitress telling me to "eat my veggies!" or having to tolerate the interaction of the "pretend" teasing (that's just me)

the restaurant itself is really great inside, though, with the theming, the TVs showing old B&W food-related sitcom clips, and the old 1950s style kitchenettes - i just can't stand the nagging waitress shtick

in MGM, i prefer to eat at the Sci-Fi - really enjoy watching those old clips on the drive-in screen, while sitting in an old car in the dark - like the food there, too, although we usually just get burgers, fries & shakes

:thumbsup2 Thanks for your posts. I went ahead and changed my ressie from 50's to Spoodles. I don't think my DD(5) would handle all that attention too well. She's a little shy.

When we went last summer there was a group of 6 of us. We liked the food and the interaction was good but, it was quite cramped.

Our favorite at MGM is Hollywood & Vine. It's buffet, very relaxed and not cramped. The last thing you want when you are already hot is to have to bump elbows with the table next to you. LOL

Have fun on your trip.

I'm taking a first-timer and we are both in our 50s. I thought this might be something different to do. I feel it fits the atmosphere of the park.

Because of the comments, I'm wondering if this is the wrong place for a couple of middle-aged woman. I've been to Disney many times, but I never ate here.

Let me know what you think; please.

I love this place. We went for my DD birthday when she turned 7. She's kind of shy and didn't want anyone to sing to her, which I told her they might do.

When our waitress Cousin Brenda saw my DD's birthday button she turned to the whole room and said "We have a birthday here!!" I touched her arm and told her my DD didn't want people to know and Brenda turned back to the room and said "BUT we are not celebrating it today." And then the rest of the meal she was very nice and quiet with our DD. We still got the interaction, but she didn't involve any other tables like they sometimes do.

The waitresses know if you are not into it, and if they don't, just tell them and they tone it down. Go and have a good time, you may find you really enjoy it, like we did.

By the way, this was the only place my DD (now 8) said we HAD to go to again this year! We will be there again for her birthday and this time she said they could sing to her or whatever.

I love the interaction!! Although, on my DD's first trip,(she was almost 3),her nanny was made to stand with her nose against the wall. After that, DD refused to eat there for a few years because of the mean lady! :rotfl2:
The food is delicious if you like down home meals. DD,who is 12 now, is trying to think of ways-elbows on the table, etc, to get into trouble at the table :thumbsup2

My husband went to 50's last year and thought it was great. Our little kitchen area has 4 tables in and we played a game agianst each other. It was so much fun. I'm starting to plan my trip for August and my husband said to make sure that we go there again to eat.

I love 50's Primetime. I had the fried chicken for dinner. It was sooo good. But, i would go back there in a heartbeat. Just for the Peanut butter and jelly shakes. I say try it!!
