Has anyone done the 50s Primetime Cafe solo? This is one resturant I haven't eaten at, and I heard they have TVs at the tables. So I'm thinking it would give a solo something to pay attention to during the meal (sort of like how you can watch movies over at Sci-Fi). Is this correct? And also, what's good there?

I was there solo a couple years ago. I did not get a table with a TV but it was fine anyway. I wanted to try the fried chicken (it was fabulous) and just enjoy the atmosphere. My waiter did not play up his role much with me and that was fine. I wasn't interested it that, but it was fun to watch it with other waiters/tables. I'm glad I went once, but may not go again.

Although I haven't eaten solo there, my DBF and I were seated next to a young woman who was solo. Our cousin (waiter) introduced us and we had a nice chat. Also I've heard other solo DISers say they ate at the bar. And yes, there are TVs at some tables or within view of most tables.

I love their Fried Chicken and DBF loves the Pot Roast

LOVE eating there. Yummmm!

(Sorry I have no info on going solo ... but I WOULD go solo if that was the situation.)

Here's my DD with the dessert "menu".

Aww, that's so cool about the Viewmaster. My first introduction to Disneyland was pictures of the Jungle Cruise ride on my viewmaster.

I'm going to 50's Prime Time solo in Sept. I've never been there to eat either. So I'll let ya know when I get back!

I will also be going to the 50s in September as a first time solo traveler and first time it the 50s. Looking forward to the experience.

It's a good place to go solo -- lots to watch and (if it hasn't suffered during recent times) good, "normal" food (I second the pot roast). If you do imbibe, sitting at the bar is a good option also -- you can chat with the bartender or your neighbor(s) if you want to. If you're at a table, you may not get as much of the "show"/teasing -- but that doesn't always happen if you're in a group either. Of course, I enjoy the decor -- I have some of the same stuff!

(The bar is also a super place to wait out a rain storm, and if there's a spot, you can just walk in without an ADR -- or you can get a drink and just stand around waiting for a chair).

I went solo but could only get a seat at the bar. And the 'show' doesn't really happen out there. there are TVs but the show rotates about every 10 mins - and in the bar there is no sound. So as a solo watching the crowd was more fun that watching the TV

I went one year and also sat at the bar. I had a hot dog and french fries. I almost cried when she brought it out; reminded me so much of my childhood. The fries were crinkle cut type and the dog had the grille marks on it - just like going to Woolworth's counter as a kid.

I also sat at the tables one year; and got the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and green beans - the TV shows little clips of several shows - my fav is the Dick Van **** show......

Also, you would love the lobby when you are there around Christmas - almost cried again there. They have the cheesiest xmas decorations. Even had the rotating light with the four different colors - my grandparents had that every year on their front porch facing the silver tree so it changed colors every sixty seconds. Next to the plastic snowman, it was a classic.....

Solo is great! If you sit next to some lively inclusive groups, you won't have time to watch tv - after all, we're all family at Prime Time. Fried Chicken. Milk shakes. Pot roast. even the sandwiches are tdf!

Don't go to prime time, sit at the bar, Tune In Lounge. Enjoy the entire menu, have a nice bartender to chat with (Dave, David, Alena, Nancy picks up some shifts, Enzo, etc.) Tell them that Darcy and Patty recommend the place. You will have great conversation, enjoy your dinner and not feel the slightest bit "uncomfortable.."

Sounds great! Do you recommend I make ADRs if I want to sit at the bar for lunchtime? I went once around dinnertime in October, and the bar was packed!

Can't make ADR's for the bar. Its first come first served. Arrive either early for dinner or late for lunch and you will find a seat. If you pass on mine and Patty's name, the bartenders will watch for a seat for you. . .its awesome.

I went to The 50's Prime Time last December, solo. I really do enjoy watching the TV while I am there. I had a tiny table without a TV. In some ways, that was OK, however, to see the nearest TV, I had to constantly be looking at another family's table. It felt a bit awkward because I have no children or grandchildren, and it felt like I was intruding on another family, by looking at their table the whole time. My table was in a very high traffic area, for the CM's rushing out of the kitchen, their arms full of food. The location of my table made me feel somewhat hyper, not relaxed at all.
My food was really great, and I love the atmosphere, so maybe next time I can get a better table location that is not quite as busy.
I would still do it again, though. AND .... I love that silver Christmas tree.
