My DH & I decided to take a very last minute trip to WDW this weekend to celebrate his 50th. The only ADR I could get was at 50's. TBH, it was way down on our list for a couple reasons. I'm not thrilled about the antics, but it's NYE so we'll go in a party mood, & will be fine with them. I'm not really concerned about that at all. I do have a question about the menu. What's the best meal that's on the lighter side? My DH is all about heavy, comfort foods. The menu is great for him. I prefer meals on the light side. Does anyone have an recommendations for lighter meals? How's the salmon or fish special? The pot pie looks like it would be a bit lighter. Is it good? I suppose if nothing else I could get the crab cake appetizer. Would your recommend it? Could I make a meal out of just that? TIA for the help. Beggers can't be choosers, & I want to make the best of the ADR we were lucky to get. The very few other, available options were at AK (which closes too early) or there's a handful of places not convenient to any park.

I dunno about LIGHT meals, but I adore the pot roast there and DH loves the meatloaf (even I like that meatloaf and I HATE meatloaf). The smores dessert is great too.

Salads are very good.

I had the salmon on our last trip - Nov. 2007 and I really enjoyed it. Hubby got the fried chicken and while I'm not a big fan of "comfort food", I did a lot of picking from what he didn't eat and thought the chicken was really good.

I got a grilled chicken sandwich last time and it was meh. DS got the chicken caesar salad and he liked it.

I've had the chicken pot pie and it comes under a puff pastry which can be filling.

This place is just overall meh to me. I really don't get the appeal.

Oh, there are tons of options. My mother-in-law, who just likes ice cream for lunch, was perfectly happy with a bowl of the chicken noodle soup. You have a Caesar Salad. Or an Iceberg Wedge (I have to admit, not my favorite). That's if your husband is not willing to share but I highly recommend the mom's sampler which would give you what you wanted and then have your husband get something else. On the sampler, you take want you want, give your husband the rest and then he can get other things to fill out the meal.

Plus, talk to the servers. We once had a vegetarian with us and she said she wanted a sandwich without the meat and was then presented with three different options not even on the menu.

You won't have a problem at all.

If your spouse is interested, 50's has THE GREATEST chocolate malt I have ever had in my entire life. I can't wait to get another next December! However, I didn't like the smores for dessert. I felt the marshmallow was just lightly toasted, and wasn't as melted as I would like.

Thanks to all of you for the replies. I'm glad to see I'll have a few good options to choose from. I'll keep in mind that there may be more vegetarian options I'd enjoy. My DH & I often share an entree so we can sample more courses. Well, I usually take a bite or two & we call that sharing. The entree is always my least favorite course, so it works out. I'll check out the menu again & look for mom's sampler. Thanks again. I really appreciate it. You all have made me happier with this ADR. :)

I would suggest the Caeser salad with chicken or salmon. Both are very good. The fried chicken was very good too, not sure it for a light eater though.

I think salad would probably be a safe choice. I was just here a few weeks ago and the food was disgusting... I ordered the sampling of Mom's favorite recipes - Crispy fried chicken, fork tender pot roast and traditional meatloaf with all the fixins it was absolutely NASTY....YUCK!!!! My daughter had the pot roast and felt the same way. We just didn't eat. I'm not complaning as we had the Dining plan and had too much food credits and couldn't use them all so we just ate some CS food instead. So, I think salad would be a wise choice.

Just ate there last week. I had the sampler and DH and DGD had the fried chicken. The sampler is smaller portion of pot roast and meatloaf and a chicken breast or a leg and thigh. Our waitress was Sarah and she was great. No antics, just a mention to get our elbow off the table. We go at least once every trip. I hope you enjoy it.

Thanks again for the feedback & reviews. I was able to switch our ADR to HBD, which we love. You all have convinced me to give 50's a try for lunch some day though. I've always wanted to see the decor, & it sounds like the food will be okay too.
