50's Prime Time - To do or not to do?

I am trying to decide weither or not to do 50's PT or not. DH and I have never been there before. I keep hearing bad reviews and good reviews. I am not one to get picked on or "yelled at", etc. but I know my DH would LOVE this place, cuz he's into all that and dont mind getting up and making a fool of himself. I could tell him to not put his elbows on the table or he will get yelled at, but he would be the type you can tell him that, but he would still do it just to see what happens. No kids, just me and DH. So do you think we should do 50s or not? I wanna hear your reviews, espeically from the ones who dont like getting picked on and etc.

50's Primetime for this trip as it looks like the kind of fun thats not too over the top.

I say do it! We love this restaurant. My sister has always hated being picked on, but she loves it as well. And really, the CMs can sense that sort of thing. But from the sounds of your husband, they'd be concentrating on him rather than you anyway.

Also, the food is good. It's not gourmet, but more of the home-cooked meal variety. But I love that. The chicken potpie, served only at lunch, is excellent. And the pot roast is good as well.

Go for it! This is one of our favorite restaurants in Disney! You're going to get all sorts of opinions, so just try it for yourself! We always have a great time there.

I agree with the other posters-- give 50's PT a try.

I've been to 50s PT a number of times. The experience depends a great deal on the server that you get. For example, during Thanksgiving week, I was there with DH, DDIL and DS. We had a fantastic server who was a delight. We laughed so hard at times that our sides hurt. DH started off by asking for a shake that wasn't too thick and, when he ordered his main course, he had a couple of other requests. She pegged him as "high maintenance" and didn't let up on him. At on point, she actually brought him a bib, put it on him and made him wear it through the rest of the meal. Of course, he had to be willing to go along with it. What made this even funnier is the DH is NOT the type who usually gets into this kind of shenanigans--he's basically on the reserved side, but does have a great sense of humor.

On the flip side, DH and I were at WDW again in March and had dinner at 50's PT. It wasn't nearly as much fun. Although both DH and I were ready to join in on the fun, the server that we had seemed a bit bored and kind of rattled off his "shtick" (set the table, no elbows, etc) in a monotone. It seemed that he just wanted to get us served and out.

We found the same on our other visits -- the amount of fun that you have depends on the server and your willingness to participate.

I am so SHY and I'll admit when we first got there I was a bit uncomfortable just watching what was going on. However, when we were seated and ordered it was a lot of fun. I was told (loudly) that I had to eat all of my food and green beans before I could order dessert. My hubby thought it was hysterical (because he is outgoing) until I started shoveling my food onto HIS plate, lol.

I ordered the fried chicken and I believe that DH had meatloaf and we LOVED it! We are making ADR's for our next trip.

We've really enjoyed this restaurant the two times we've been. The food is good and your server makes all of the difference! The first time we went the server was just phoning it in. We still enjoyed ourselves watching everyone else. The second time we went was for DH's 40th birthday. WOW! Our server was great and she was funny! She made us laugh so hard with all of her comments and gimmicks. We are bringing my parents with us in September and will be celebrating my dad's 60th birthday there. It should be a great time!

I would probably never have gone here, except it was the only ADR I could get one night when I canceled fantasmic due to weather. This is now one of my favs. It isn't really like being "picked on". It's more like being part of a skit. It is fun, but not in an embarassing way. You actually get more attention if you go with kids. Try it - the food is good. The portions are huge, so go hungry.

Love it love it! We got Cindy(rella) as our waitress and she was fantastic. You definitely have to go once. We are still laughing and talking about our visit there!

We went for lunch and loved it.

DD11 and I shared the fried chicken, it is a huge portion.

The server picked me to be the one to pick on the most, which the kids thought was funny.
I asked for corn in place of the green beans. So my server teased me about that.
Then I didn't finish my corn, and he gave me a hard time.

He came back with a 'special dessert' for me. I dug into the whipped cream and sprinkles and there was my corn underneath the whipped cream!!

The kids thought it was hilarious. We are definately going there again.

Oh yes, you must try it once. I think Prime Time should be a "must have" Disney experience. I agree with the previous posts, your experience depends on the Server you get. The last time we were there our server was rude...and not "in character" rude...just rude. It ruined the whole experience for us. But the first time we went it was a blast...we had a lot of fun and our DS, who was 6 at the time, came away with lots of fun memories still chants "keep your elbows off the table" at 14.

DH is shy and hates being the center of attention, but really enjoyed this place. I think it is because everyone is in the same boat...not just him.

Both times we have been there the food has been pretty good, but you pay for the entertainment. I say go for it!

Well, the picking on is all done in good fun. Unless someone is hyper sensitive, I can't imagine having a problem with it.

But I have to say that we've dined there twice and had totally different experiences. The first time we had an older gentleman and he was wonderful! He teased without ever being obnoxious and really made it a memorable experience. We even had our pic taken with him.

Based upon that great experience, we went back in February and I think our waitress was trying for the 'surly, depressed spinster aunt' in her characterization. Or ...she just sucked. She barely said one word to us or any of her other tables. To be honest, we were really disappointed and did not leave her a generous tip the way we had the first time. I've gotten more lively service in my local diner than I did from this waitress. It was especially frustrating because in the next 'area' the diners were all laughing and laughing with their waiter and there we sat with a lump of a waitress.

I don't know if we'll go back again. I'm not sure a lunch is worth that much money if my waitress won't even have a normal conversation let alone do the characterization the restaurant is known for.

When we went we loved it and ddad hates that kind of stuff but enjoyed it! Our waiter wasnt as strick as some of the other waiters/waitress so i guess we where lucky! Overall we really enjoyed it and will b back this trip!

We went in August and enjoyed the food, and atmosphere. Our server was not an entertainer type so the service was normal service no comedy. We enjoyed watching other tables nearby get a good dose of humor. I would definitely visit again.

Guess it all depends on who you get. We've NEVER had a 'fun' server. Doesn't matter if we don't eat our veggies, put our elbows on the table etc. Nothing.

That aside, we like the food so we go back and, rather like the elusive towel animals, hope that we'll luck out someday.
