We booked 50s PTC but are on DxDP and have left over dining credits and were looking for places to use them and were wondering if we should "upgrade" to Brown Derby?

There's 4 of us... 2 kids (boys... will be 9 and 6... youngest has autism and multiple food allergies). Would the kids have more fun at 50's prime time? Or would the food be better at Brown Derby??

Any thoughts??

Hmm tough decision! I feel like 50's PT will be more fun for the kids...where else can they go and possibly have mom scolded for having her elbows on the table? ;)

But the food is better at BD. Not to say the food at 50's isn't good....it's just hard to compare the two since they're very different experiences.

Will you be eating at any other signature restaurants on your trip? If not, then I would say to give BD a try.

If you are eating at other signatures, then I'd go with 50's PT.

You can't go wrong with either one...just depends on what kind of food you want!

The kids would enjoy PT over BD. FWIW, we had a GAWD awful meal at 2 years ago at the BD (haven't been back since). Service was slow and inefficient. Steak was fatty and poorly prepared and the often touted grapefruit cake stale:scared1:

We had 3 little ones with us (5,3,1) and couldn't have been happier when the meal was over. There were 4 adults, 3 children and no one's meal was worth 2 credits.

OTOH, PT is one of our "must do's" every trip. DH and I have a lunch ADR next week and it's one that he looks forward to----he's a fan of the milkshakes.:

Have fun planning:wizard:

The food was incredible at Brown Derby last time we ate there (August) so i would pick it. The only downside is that whenever we've eaten there we'd had to wait really long to be seated--after that, the meal went very quickly.

Well dinner that night would be Cape May if that makes any difference at all...

We are eating at 2 other signatures (well 3 if you count CRT)... dinners at Cali Grill and Le Cellier.

We were trying to incorporate *some* variety but I don't think we did be honest :laughing: Here's our ADRs (some are traditions...

* Ohana (dinner)
* Chef Mickey's (breakfast)
* Kona (dinner)
* Coral Reef (lunch)
* Le Cellier (dinner)
* 50's Prime Time (lunch)
* Cape May Cafe (dinner)
* Yak and Yeti (lunch)
* Cali Grill (dinner)
* Liberty Tree Tavern (lunch)
* Cinderella's Royal Tabel (dinner)
* Ohana breakfast

We have 12 meal credits between the 4 of us left over with this plan plus our 48 snacks (man the DxDP is A LOT of food... :eek: ). I want to keep our vacation fun and not just do upscale restaurants which isn't fun for the kids... if that makes sense. I mean of course I want good food... and we are absolutely doing Cali Grill for us... but I don't want a full slate of ressies like that. We are doing the DxDP because of my son's food allergies... not to get our money's worth... but still I get that nagging desire to try to anyway.

Anyway... would love more input on 50's PTC vs Brown Derby if others would like to share!!

I love HBD. We have eaten there twice. The food and service have always been outstanding and I enjoy the atmosphere far more than PT. I took my DS4 who has autism there in August. He did great. PT is too much for him. I vote use your Dining credits and go to HBD!

My vote goes to the "Brown Derby". DW and I enjoy the atmosphere and food and visit each time we are in the world. I enjoy the filet, she has the lamb. Can't go wrong with the Cobb Salad too for an app. Grapefruit cake is awesome too. :thumbsup2

I love the Brown Derby. It is one of my favorites, and I'm a little sad it didn't make the cut for this trip! Of course it won't be as fun at PT for the kids, but it will be a good meal.

I've ate at both and between the two I would choose HBD over 50s Prime Time. The atmosphere is fun at PT but it can also feel chaotic if you're just looking to sit down and relax for an hour to enjoy a nice meal.

DXPD is a lot of snack credits. The first few days we were on it, I was careful about what I used the credits on to get the best value out of the plan. But when it became obvious we were going to have some left over we just started getting bottled water with the credits. It wasn't the smartest way to use the credits but it sure was convenient.

I have never been to BD , I was always hesitant about PT , but it will be a regular for us now , it is classic disney fun , comfort food and great milkshakes , I think you have to judge what your family would enjoy more , would upscale food and a quieter meal be better for you than homecooking type food with a much more chaotic pace ?
I know my kids would prefer PT

If you are doing a buffet for dinner, there's no way I'd go to 50s PTC for lunch. The food is very heavy.

HBD offers the same menu for lunch and dinner so there are some really nice lunch options that you don't have the opportunity to try elsewhere. I always get fish; the grouper I had a few weeks ago was very good. Our 30 year old son is still raving about the pork chop; he said it was the best thing he had all week and we dined at a lot of signatures.

We probably dine at HBD almost every vacation and I'd say we've had at least a dozen meals there; I've always been happy with the food, although for a signature, I do find the children's menu disappointing and not any better than what is offered at 50s. For the adults though, a big difference.

One thing about HBD, the service will be slower. It is going to take you longer to dine here, especially on DxDP where you get 3 courses. That's part of signature dining so if you don't want to spend 90 minutes on lunch, go with 50s.

50's for SURE! We did both on our last trip and we will never return to Brown Derby again. My 5 year old son absolutely hated it and we had the worst service ever. He forced my son to eat more (when he was clearly not hungry) and then brought him a dessert that we didn't even order (it had chocolate on it and my son HATES chocolate).

Brown Derby could be nicer for adults but I wouldn't bother taking kids there ever again. 50's prime time is much more fun and the food is EXCELLENT. I booked it for our next trip already, can't wait to go back there :)

We haven't eaten at 50s yet, but we had a perfect meal at HBD yesterday. We were walk-ins for a late lunch/early dinner, and had exceptional service (so much so that we found the manager so we could commend our server, Darrin) and wonderful food. Our son was celebrating his birthday, and Darrin took our photos & later presented us with a lovely customized birthday card, brought our son a bag of "Pixie Dust" (a glow cube in a bag), and of course he received a complimentary dessert. Just a really positive experience in every possible way. :thumbsup2
