50's Prime Time Closed?

I was making ADR's yesterday and Disney said 50's is scheduled to be closed Jan 20 - Feb 2, 2008 Has anyone else been told this? How about some recommendations for TS at Disney/MGM?? Thank you in advance

Wonder what referbishing will be happening?? This is one of my DGDs' favorite places to eat in MGM! We have been to Sci-Fi and while the ribs and onion rings were good, it cannot replace the Prime Time!

I was told the same thing when I called yesterday to make reservations for January 23rd. I was dissappointed. I ended up making reservations for Hollywood & Vine. So, not my first choice, but a place to eat.

50's is the only place that we like in MGM...if that was not available I would go to the Beach Club and eat at Cape May or head to Epcot and eat there

I heard this too. This happens generally during the slower times. I've visited before in Jan and it was closed. Usually just for painting and cleaning and updating. Last time they did some wallpapering. Nothing major usually. I'll be there during that time, so will miss it too.

I was also trying to make reservations for Jan 23rd DH is leaning towards Mama Melrose's and DS wants Sci-Fi. Maybe just a CS will please everyone, then again, probably not. DH loves food - come to think of it so do I!

Yep, I heard the same thing when I tried to make a Jan 21 ADR.....ended up making one for the week before it closes (was worried about doing it the day before in case they would be running out of food, )

Apparently the nice little old ladies that serve you went to management and demanded that the annoying brother be fired or they take their issue up with the union. They voted to strike which is why the restaurant will be closed.

The other thing I heard was that everyone was complaining about having to watch black and white tv. Many people complained that with all the money they pay Disney to go to the parks and eat in their restaurants, the least Disney could do would be to provide color tv for their viewing pleasure. When the restaurant is closed during the strike by the little old ladies, Disney maintenance will be able to install the new tv's.

At least that's what I overheard a CM say recently.

They will NOT be getting new tv's but a glass plate with color bands across it so you can watch b/w shows like they're in color. Blue at the top and green at the bottom. And if you don't believe they existed, you're just too young. After all it's our restaurant, those of us in our prime time, 50's.

There's a reason why I've taken my DD there for the past 3 years. She doesn't believe her "old" parents watched b&w tv as kids.

Thanks for setting the record straight on the tv's. Any chance we can watch an entire episode of Leave it to Beaver?
