50's Prime Time Cafe-Anyone Been There Lately?

We just returned and ate there twice (lunch and dinner). Both times our servers were great. One was a guy with sunglasses from Morrocco, he made me eat my greens and fed them to me with a spoon. Then at dinner "mom" was upset that DH didn't eat his green beans, so she took them away to "make them more exciting". They came back dressed up as an icecream sundae...:rotfl: Whipped cream and sprinkles, she then made DH eat some. It was priceless.

It was one our of best dining experiences at during our vacation.

Cheers
Angela

We had Auntie Claire for our server in August and she was a blast! Another server (male) crawled in through the window during our meal.

Keep in mind you'll do best with their signature dishes - pot roast, fried chicken, meatloaf. DH got tuna and the portion was really, really small. Luckily DS got the fried chicken and couldn't finish it all.

We were there last week on our last day and got in w/o ressie's for lunch and our server was nice BUT WASN'T IN THE CHARACHTER but we still had a wonderful lunch. DELICIOUS FOOD! Hubby had the fried chicken, such a delicious lightly breaded crust and mashed potatoes w/collard greens. Our first time eating collard greens and we LOVED THEM! I want their recipe!
I had the fish sandwich w/fries. VERY GOOD! After we finished our meal, we did get two stickers that said "CLEAN PLATE AWARD". :rotfl:

WE will definitely go again next year!:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

We had a late lunch / early dinner there last Saturday. They were busy, but were taking a very few walk-ups. Our server was NOT in character and it took us almost an hour to get our food. :( (There were only 4 of us). There was a large party seated across from us and our server played it up to them, but not us. I was a little disappointed that we didn't have the same experience and that it took so long to get our food. After dessert and everything, we ended up taking 2 hours for lunch and the kids were quite restless by the end of the meal. The food was ok, but I think it will be awhile before we go back there again.

We were there on Sat. 13th and yes they still act like mom...it was very cool and we had a blast - dinner was fantastic too! The pot roast rocks!!! There was a large French group right next to the 2 of us, but I think "our mom" did a good job giving us...well DH...the mom experience (b/c I kept my elbows off the table) along with the large group.

Were just there on Tuesday the 16th for dinner. We had brother Bob as our server. He was funny but not too involved which was just as well since we had DD21 and DD13 along. Threw a bunch of straws at us when he brought our drinks. He made DD21 set the table and everytime we asked for something he told her to go get that too. It wasn't too embarrassing!!! A large group in our room got yelled at all during their meal. They loved it. And a lady from another room had to do some kind of dance since she didn't clean up her plate. We had steak, potroast, pork and chicken and all of our plates were clean so we got dessert...brownie sundae, apple cobbler, smores, and I had a milk shake with dinner. Great meal and I think the tv shows are different than they used to be. Better too.

I'm surprised by so many positive reports. We hardly saw our server and she certainly wasn't in character. I was very disappointed. The atmosphere was fun to look at though.

I haven't been here since a few years ago. Let me just say that I hope they are still acting out the characters. On our last family trip there in 2005, our "mom" was very persistant about everyone eating their vegetables and keeping their elbows off the table. Well my DSF, just to be funny, told "mom" that my DH was putting his elbows on the table. She made him get up in the middle of the restaurant and sing and dance to I'm A Little Teapot! :rotfl: Funniest thing I'd seen in a long time. DHs face was soo red. The pics I got are priceless. I didn't have a digital camera back then yet, or I would post them! So just to be safe, eat all your veggies and sit up straight, no elbows on the table!:lmao:

We are going for our first time in Nov. I haven't told my 2 DS's what to expect at all! I really hope that our CM is in character. I assumed that this was what they were all supposed to do.

Well here's hoping for a fun dinner!;)

We went for the first time and loved it. Sister Nicole tormented my DH in fact, she made him set the table which just made my DS laugh until he turned purple. She threw straws at him and at one point she instructed him on how to correctly use a knife and fork. She even helped him cut his steak. It was so much fun and my DH and DS both loved it. We will definitely go back - ask for SISTER NICOLE!

The pot roast is to die for!

We are planning to go there next March if we can get an ADR at lunch.

My question- if someone seems truly upset will they back off the kidding? I have no idea how our 6 yr old grandson will react to this, and I would hate him to get upset....but his Grandpa is a ham so it could be LOTS of fun.:yay:

Great sories! We have a reservation there next week for our teenagers while we celebrate our anniversary at Bistro. I so hope they get a cousin mad for table manners!

we're going in November and I think it'll be a lot of fun. My Mom and Dad will really get into it, I'm sure. I only wish DH was coming. He'd really have a blast with it. :rotfl2:
