which resturaunt is better 50's Prime time or sci-fi? i have a five year old girl and I didn't know which is more funa dn of course, which has better food.

50s Prime Time, by a mile, hands-down. Sci-Fi has had a reputation of mediocre food and middling service, while Prime Time is often on folks' favorite restaurants lists.

50's hands down, the bantering back and forth with the staff is great, food is pretty good, deserts are AWESOME (even get to view them through a viewmaster, my son loved this).

Our family goes to Sci-Fi only for dessert or snack; never for a meal. Our experience with Sci-Fi food is that it is less than mediocre and is either overcooked or undercooked. The service is usually ok, sometimes good. The atmosphere is fun for awhile, but the movie clips quickly get repetitive.

50's PTC has wonderful food that is well-prepared, tasty and rather generous. The atmosphere is quite fun, especially if you are a baby-boomer. My only complaint about 50's is the delivery of the entree (if you order an appetizer) can be too fast, so if you order an appetizer, be sure to tell your server to hold back the entree. Otherwise, you may end up with a table full of dishes and no room to eat!

I was just trying to decide between these two restaurants, too.

We ate at Prime Time this past May and it was AWESOME - food was good and our server was hilarious!

I was thinking about doing Sci Fi- but the menu doesn't look as good to me. If I spend $11-$15 on a meal, I'd rather have something from Prime Time like fried chicken, mashed potatoes instead of a burger that I could get at a counter service place.

I gotta agree with Tigger Magic. Sci-FI is best to stop in for ice cream, not a whole meal. The atmosphers is cool for about the time it takes to finish a sundae. PTC is awesome! :earsgirl:

You guys are starting to talk me out of Sci-Fi. I've been to 50's many times and loved it each and every time. While I've had more outgoing servers at times compared to others, the atmosphere was always great and the food was always generous and yummy. I decided to go with Sci-Fi this time because I wanted to try something different and it looked like fun. Now I'm not so sure...

We went to both in September and while at Sci-Fi I just kept thinking that I was wasting time that could have been spent on Rock N' Roller Coaster! :cool1: OTOH, I had a ball at 50's and was so full afterwards, I felt sick. Definately going back there!

Both are fun, but a word of caution: Sci-fi shows 50's monster movies, which might be scary for your daughter.

Now I'm nervous too! I have been trying to plan some different restaurants for our trip in 12 days, and we have never done Sci Fi. We love 50's PTC a few times and loved it. We are on the Dining Plan this year, and I don't want to waste table service credits if it isn't any good.

Guess I'll be the one vote for Sci-Fi. We never miss this on any trip, have been to both, but always have more fun at sci-fi. We have never been disapointed in the food, the pasta is usually good, and the milkshakes are great. The movie clips are fun and campy, don't think it would be scary unless your child is particularly frightened. Mine loved the cars as youngsters, and we love the theming. Like 50's too, just slways seem to go back to sci-fi, you'll have a blast either way!

BTW-sci-fi is our Christmas eve ressie :)

We'd be another vote for Sci-Fi. We didn't really enjoy the one time we went to 50's---didn't get a good vibe from the overall experience. Yet my kids are always asking to go to Sci-Fi. Granted, we always just order burgers (even though they're not on the dinner menu, you can still request them), so I can't tell you what their other food is like.

I wouldn't be nervous about any of the restaurants though---keep an open mind & try them all out!

Another vote for SiFi.... its more like a fun event, than another meal at a restaurant.

I pay cash and save the meal tickets for something else. Usually go for lunch.

Its one of my favorite rides at MGM.

50's old-timer never did anything for me. Good food but I have so many great restaurants picked out during the week.

When you think about it.... there is only ONE Drive-In Theater at Disney World.

I vote for Sci-fi. I find the waiters at 50s to be a bit obnoxious. Yes, that is their job...but I am looking for a laid-back dining experience. At the Sci-fi, you can sit back in the "car", enjoy the movie clips, and have a relaxing meal.

I'll second that for Sci-Fi. I enjoyed my dinner and my experience there! Got the grilled chicken ceasar salad and I thought it was delicious! The clips were hysterical and the waiters yelling out the lines to some of the clips are even more hysterical!

We really weren't impressed with Si-Fi. The only thing I really liked was the cookies and cream shake. We all totally loved 50's PTC. Great food, and really fun service! Definately on our must do's next time!

After reading on another thread about a friend's trip report (she arrived home yesterday) and spending time in Celebration hospital with her husband for food poisioning, I'd hesitate to eat at Sci Fi (that's where they ate and they were both sick).

Love 50s - we're going back in January and I'm mad that it is being refurbed!

I like them both- but prefer Primetime Cafe when going with "company". We always have a good time and a great meal - in fact we were just there last Thursday for lunch.

My DD8 and I will go to Sci-Fi if we are at MGM for an evening, but I don't think it's great for a group meal - JMO
