I thought I had my mind made up going to 50s Diner for the fried chicken dinner but I really do not like to be pestered when I am eating/visiting. Do the waitresses really bother you quite a bit with their speils? I think I would enjoy it more if I had kids with us but it will be just myself and my mom(70).
Should we just go to Sci-Fi? The menu sounds ok for both but would like a more quiet relaxed lunch. Thanks

I have been to both on two seperate vacations, neither is a great memory but I will tell you about my experience and let you decide for yourself, but I would say neither.
First 50's Prime Time Cafe~ I went on Thanksgiving Day in 02 with my family(Mom, Dad, 3 Sisters, 2 Bro-in-laws and one niece). Now let me explain that we are short people, Im 5'3, lots of resturant I can not sit comfortably in the seat without putting one leg under my body one to boost me higher to the table and to because I can not stand that I can not touch the floor with my feet. The CM was playing fun but made me feel 1 ft tall telling me to put my feet on the ground. Also if you dont finish your food there are some who will try to playfully try to force feed you. Plus overall, none of us except my niece who was 3 was impressed with the food.

Second Sci-fi~ I went on my Disneymoon in Sept 06 with my DH. We enjoyed the enviroment, it was very neat. However, it is very dark and hard to see your food. Another thing is we are both smaller at the time I was 115 and hubby 150 and we were crowded in the seats. We were most disappointed about the food. Not very good. My mom, dad, grandma and niece(Different niece(4) went Feb 08 and said they did not enjoy the food either. (when they told me they were going, I did not tell them we did not enjoy our food). They went to Hollywood and Vine and said its very good tho.

Hope this helps.

My kids have witnessed people getting harrased and really want to be harrased at Prime Time. Alas, we have never had a good CM who harrased them. But - we have seen it being done. The atmosphere is great at Prime Time, but It's even better at Sci Fi. Personally I can't imagine not doing both. They are both must do's for us.

I personally prefer 50s Prime Time over Sci Fi. The staff are generally very good at reading guests and how much teasing they can handle. I'm sure when you check in you can request a more mellow server as well.

We like both but I think we prefer Sci Fi for burgers and onion rings and a nice quiet relaxing setting....this is the quietest TS we have ever been to

IMO, the food at Prime Time is far better. The last time we ate at Sci-Fi, the food was pretty bad.

We haven't eaten at 50's yet but will be on our next trip. Here is a review of Sci-Fi from my Nov '08 TR:

We head out to the Sci Fi for our 4:45 dinner reservation and get seated in a car. Then we are majorly shocked. The movie clips aren't movie clips anymore. Its a couple cartoons, lots of ads for the snack bar and hardly any campy scary clips from the 50s. Looks like another thing they are trying to tone down for tiny kids. I was really disappointed. We had been telling our 2 Disney World newbies about this restaurant for a year and this is what they got. I felt bad and actually apologized to them. The food has gone downhill too. DD17 & I had the ribs here last time and got them again this time. Now they are half fat. Hardly anything meaty to them. Very disappointing. DH said his steak wasn't really a steak. It was a tenderloin. It was very small. Eating in a car isn't a draw for me here. It was the movies and the food. Now that they're gone, I won't miss the Sci-Fi.

Alright you've convinced me lol I am going to stick with the 50's diner. Fried chicked is our favorite meal and I hear it is really good here. I wish my ADR date would get here May 20th. These decisions are making me crazyyyyyyy!

Maybe you didn't stay for the whole series of movie clips. We just ate at SciFi this last January and saw both scifi movie clips and cartoons. This place is so much fun!

I agree totally. Lunch at Sci-Fi with burgers, rings and a shake! AMAZING! I would not go to Disney without going to Sci-Fi. We ate at both last time we were at Disney and the burgers and rings at Sci-Fi were hands down better by 100% than anything that we ate at 50's. I love the atmosphere at both but again the atmosphere at Sci-Fi hands down is better and quiter. The service at 50's is hit or miss. If you are staying at POP the fried chicken TV dinner is better than 50's. With all that said. We are going to Sci-Fi for lunch paying out of pocket and splitting the burger and rings then going to 50's about 3pm for desert only. I can't imagine doing Disney without either one! Whichever you choose, you will be fine. The atmosphere at either is great!

We stayed the whole way through, saw the same cartoon twice. There were a few clips but they were few and far between and not as good (scary) as they used to be.

Thanks for all your opinions. Yes we are staying at Pop and will be trying the chicken dinner on an evening that we are going to Universal Studios for the day. Decisions, Decisions.

Just thought I'd throw out there that we went to Sci-Fi on our last trip, and no one was impressed. The milkshakes were very good, but my burger was burnt and I forgot to order the onion rings instead of fries (which I have heard you can sub). :sad2: It really was TOO dark (had to take a pic of my food to even see it, I swear!). Just wasn't my thing, though I'm glad I tried it.

This time we are trying 50's Prime Time (I think). I don't want to be harassed either, so I'm hoping we'll get a "boring" server!
