Since Carousel of Progress opened originally 1964 its been 50 years this year, anyone know if theres anything special planned? perhaps an update

That would be interesting! My DH loves the COP. My Dad was there with us last year and had never gone on it. He loved it as some the older scenes reminded him of his childhood.

COP has a special place in the hearts of those of us who saw it at the Worlds Fair in 1964-65.

I love this ride and would love to see an update or at least some recognition of the 50th anniversary but I doubt it will happen. It seems like its been pretty much neglected for a long time. :(

Our whole family loves COP. A Disney classic:earsboy:

I used to like it, but not one I need to see. If they ever did an update to the future that would be fun though.

It is no longer feasible to update the ending. The technology of today will be outdated by tomorrow, it would require constant changing. It is a historical attraction. One of Walt's last big creations. Changing it would make to big a gap and as a historical reference it is great. Today's child has no idea what life was like at the turn of the 20th Century. It is a good thing to see where we came from and on top of that have an attraction that is still working 50 years after it's introduction.

Let's face it, if we don't embrace it as a non-negotiable attraction that reflects the very beginnings of the use of animatronic, the precursor to everything we have today, then it will disappear. Personally, I will be happy if it just remains a working attraction and isn't bulldozed.

As a side note, I was just in there last week. I took a very careful look at the interior of the theaters and the sets. I'm happy to say that the carpets appeared to be clean and not worn out and the seats were clean and not torn. The AA's worked fine, the theaters moved when they were supposed to and the music was clear and without distortion. I'm thankful that it is in that state, and it didn't get to be that way by being ignored.

I'm dating myself here, but I also saw COP at the World's Fair in New York...my senior class trip! Had my first legal beer at the World's Fair...you could drink legally at 18 in New York!

I would love to see the ending restored (unlikely that the original ending set was preserved) to its 1960s "present day" that appeared at the Fair.

Well it may not be her fav, but when we went 5 years ago, my DD then 5 loved it. She has mentioned COP almost every time we discuss our last trip and now that we are planning our next trip she has it on her list of must dos. I remember the COP from my childhood and am so glad to hear they are keeping it up. A little history and nosalgia is good for all of us.
