For those who have something less than a 50-year membership in DVC, could you be enticed into getting the added years for a fee? We purchased an interest in BCV until 2042 and now wonder if WDW will offer an extension of those contracts (at a fee) out to a 50-year contract?

There was a poll on this subject a while back, and I believe that results were that most of us are not interested in the idea of paying to extend our DVC contracts. The extra years offered at SSR hold no appeal for me. I bought where I want to own, and dh and I will be in our 70's when our current contracts expire. We figure that we'll either come up with a new place to vacation at that point, or we'll let our kids and grandkids take care of the accomodations - we figure by then, they'll owe us a few weeks ;)

No one has an answer for that. I would think they might come up with something but 38 years is a long way off. I will be 100 in 42 so I would be interested in adding on at that time.
China may own WDW by then, maybe we all get get a job with them if that happens.;)

When I was backing into Disney's numbers doing a Present Value calculation (comparing existing resort points vs SSR), the extra 12 years came to less than $8 per point at their discount rate (~10.875%).

Nevertheless, I think I'd take it if DVD offered to me at up to $10 a point. I am a mere baby at 41, given that Grandma lived to 104; yeah, I'll take an extra 12 yrs, thx.

We would probably buy an extension if they offered it for a reasonable price. I'm 32 and hubby is only 30. If anything an extension would be nice for our grandkids to use and enjoy.

Actually, if I would have known for a fact SSR was going to have a longer contract we might have waited. (We bought at BCV toward the end. I am pleased however that this resort does well on the resale market. Makes me feel more comfortable with our purchase knowing it is in demand. Must be a good resort! :p )

Course, if WDW continues at the rate it is going I'm not quite sure I'd want an extension if it ends up like my local Six Flags.

The thing I continue to enter into the equation, is that at the end of my current contract, in 2042, I would like to think that an extra ten years would give that much more time, for even great grand kids, to enjoy the Disney magic as much as we do…and at a reasonable cost. If it were only for my wife, and myself, 2042 is beyond our compensation as we would be 104 years old at that time.
We only bought into DVC and BWV because of the location. Our original introduction to DVC was at OKW and at that time we had no interest. Likewise, because of the location, SSR with it’s 50-year membership draws no interest from us. It must be our age but it is nice not to start out every day waiting in line for the bus.

I don't think so, but who can say? I mean 20 years is an eternity to me, never mind 38. I may have had all of the Disney I need in this lifetime by the time DVC-I expires. ( all right - not likely, but you never know ) But as of now, I'd be likely to pass on an offer to extend my contract.

Remember that most if not all members would need to extend to make this workable. As for a pricce, I'd think anything over a todays price of say $10 pp would not go over. Remember you'd be buying a 50 year old resort at them time even if it is a Disney resort.

Buying into SSR and being 27, it was perfect for me. I'll be well into my 70's when the contract expires. I'd extend for my kids and hopefully grandkids, but even as things stand now they are going to get some use out of it. I just can't see how that many people would be interested in extending for themselves. For my family, sure!
