Anyone know if you can use your Target debit card to buy a Disney gift card and get the 5% off?

The answer is "yes", since in Target parlance, the Disney card is considered an "Entertainment Card"...

I have used my 5 percent off prescription cards to purchase Disney gift cards and get the 5 percent off every time!

Yes, if you get a lot of medications using the 5% off for the card plus the prescriptions rewards is a great way to get an extra 10% off of your vacation.

Do you get 5% off if you use a Target credit card to buy a Disney Gift Card? I asked the cashier last week and she told me no. Just wondering now if she gave me to correct information.

I think she gave you incorrect information. I just purchased $300 worth of cards on Sunday; used my Target credit card and that price was adjusted down 5% when I swiped my cc.

Wow. I am so glad I stumbled across this thread. Guess she was misinformed. Thanks to everyone who responded.

Yes, you can! I just used my RX rewards on them, too. So 5% off with the RX rewards and then 5% off with the Target card. I bought as many as I could afford on that day since you can only use the RX rewards for one day.

DH works at Target and until we purchased our gift cards for our upcoming trip he didn't realize that you get discounts on gift cards. He's worked for Target for 22 years this month.

The reason? Most cashiers think gift cards and they think Target gift cards. Which you don't get the discount on. Because the Disney gift cards are considered an Entertainment gift card, you do get the 5% off.

Just got back from Target, trying to get $1000 in Disney gift cards using the 5% Pharmacy Rewards and 5% Target debit card.
I just applied for the debit card last week and my permanent card isn't in yet (I only had my paper temporary info.)
The system will only allow a $299.99 purchase with a temporary card!
I did get the full 5% Pharmacy Rewards discount on the 1k gift cards plus my other items.
I did get 5% off the $300 it allowed me to put on my Target debit card. [By the way the Lead or asst mgr who was helping my cashier said that I couldn't get the 5% debit card discount on the Disney cards -- my receipt says otherwise :rotfl:]
So yes, 5% Target debit card works for Disney gift cards.
I will call corporate tomorrow to try to get them to give me the rest of the discount; would have returned everything and just re-purchased when my real card arrives, but I spent 2 hours shopping!

Yes you can get 5% off may be you should ask the store manager.

I wouldn't bother asking a manager. It does work and the manager may not even know it (mine didn't when I bought mine last month). Worked great once I got things with the Red Card fraud department cleared up (blocked my card for unusual activity, I've never charged that much before).

Chances are that they won't do it. The reason that i say that is because you get the 5% off for using the red card and since you technically only used your red card to purchase $300 in gift cards, you wouldn't be entitled to the extra 5% off on the other $700. DH has had people ask him to do an adjustment in the store and there's no way for them to do it.

Even when your real card arrives you will be limited on how much you can spend. It's kind of like building a history with them. Since it's not like a debit card, doesn't come out immediately and therefore they have no way of knowing whether the money is in the account or not, they do it in baby steps. Think of it as writing a check.

I do wish you luck though.

Yes I'll be surprised if they do it for the reason you stated. My complaint will be that I was not informed about the limit, and the computer refused to allow me to use my Target debit card as freely as I would use my regular debit card, which I was assured was the case when I applied. Since I lost over $40 of the discount I expected it's worth a shot.

OK, so Target corporate wouldn't do anything about the $40 discount I didn't get. No surprise.
Apparently you have to show a history of purchases that is ever increasing (and paid as agreed by your bank account of course) to be able to make a purchase over $300 on the debit card.
So if you want to stack your Pharmacy Rewards and Target debit card discounts for a large Disney gift card purchase, start making large purchases at least 6 weeks before your big gift card purchase!

This is why I got the credit card. I haven't used it yet, but I hope there are no limits other than the total credit limit on the card. I plan to make my purchases and pay them off immediately.

Yep, had I known about the limit problem with the debit card I would have gotten the Visa. Just didn't want to have to pay another bill. So much for my "easier" option :)
