We will be adding the Keys to our August trip, and will split a week with 5 nights in Key West, and then 2 in Key Largo before heading to Orlando.

It will be me and my DS and college age daughter and her roommate. I am looking around on VRBO for a condo for a 5 night stay in Key West. Ideas?

To be really honest ..... a 5 day stay in Key West is ... a waste of time.

You would see it all in a day.

A day's drive down from Miami ( it is a long ... slow speed .. 45 mph a lot of the time. )

Take one night on way down to Key West ...... 1 night in Key West....... 1 night going back to Miami.

Save your self the stress .

Please please please disregard the pp!!!!!!!! That is absolutely UNTRUE!!

You could never experience Key West in 1 day. Ever. That's just crazy talk! (Sorry Woodview ;) )

Do you and your son dive?

1st thing I recommend-- Dry Tortugas! Even if you only snorkel.

Oh my gosh the restaurants..so many great ones!!!

Museums? Hit up the lighthouse museum, shipwreck museum, Hemingway House, and if you don't have a local Ripley's, may as well add that in as well.

Ft Zach- must.

Sunset on Mallory Square- Must.

Sunset cruise on another night- Must.

Conch fritter stand, next to the aquarium- Must.

Jet ski around the island- Must.

Oh and there's soooo much more!!!

I LOVE Key West!!!! You made a wonderful choice!!

As far as Key Largo- John Pennekamp, but I highly recommend a visit to Islamorda as well. And on way from Key West a stop at Bahia Honda.

Fury Adventure is AWESOME!! We loved it! It includes jet ski, parasail, snorkeling, inflatables, lunch and drinks in your way back!

Sunset booze cruise is a must do also.

I still say ... Key West is very over rated & a long way to drive & a long way back again to Orlando.

This is a trip for my DD, who had a tough year in college, and pulled through. We are bringing her roomie, who has never been to FL. My daughter loves, loves, loves the Keys. So we are granting her wish! They want to get good at snorkeling, and she loves the Key West vibe. I will use part of that time as study leave, and catch up on a pile of books and writing projects. So it is all good. And then we will stay 2 nights in Key Largo, so they can snorkel at John Pennecamp, and then we will go check into the Vistana. They will love the drive both directions (the only ocean the roomie has seen is Rehobeth Beach). And I will love only needing to go from Key Largo to Orlando to check in.

so back to original question. 5 nights eliminates weekly rental. Looking for ideas from any Key West insiders on condos that rent for 5 nights! Thank you!

I used to live there, and it is still pretty much my second home. I can't help with the Condos though. We usually stay at Casa Marina, and the Reach hotel is right next door, I haven't stayed there, but is a little more reasonably priced I think.

I'd check Airbnb if you are looking to rent private.
