I just booked a 7 night cruise for my wife and me, our two teenage children 18 and 19, and our little girl.
Am I crazy? Will it be miserable having 5 people in the one 300' room?
I figure any sleeping arrangements on a DCL cruise is better than on land and all of the kids will get their own beds.
Somebody please tell me we'll be okay :D :)

You'll be fine. Set ground rules before going since some in your party may be out later than others. The split bathroom will be wonderful for you! As posted above, you will only need the space to sleep- plenty of other laces to relax on the ship. Enjoy!

Depends on how cozy you all want to be.,

This is a Deluxe Family Oceanview with verandah on the Fantasy (that sleeps 5):

I will probably be in the minority here but I think it will be fine! Sure, might be crowded at times but for my family, we would always do 5 in a balcony room over 2 insides- just personal preference for us. Have a great cruise!

thank you for the pic w/ the beds down, i've looked all over for this!
I think we can make it work. I agree about ground rules tho, like nobody out after a set time and don't be gross lol

You will be fine with 5 in this type of room. We have done it six times already with our 3 kids who will be 21, 18 and 15 on our cruise in a 4A this summer. One bit of advice from our experience is to put your youngest one in the top bunk. That way, when the older two come in later, they won't disturb her as much when they get ready for bed.

Someone in another thread pointed out that the dad in their group would always go over to the spa for showers, making it one less person who needed to fight for that bathroom. Not sure if there's a charge for that, though, but if it's a possibility, it might make the logistics easier.

Oh, also, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but all curling irons and blow dryers have to be used in the room and not the bathrooms, I think, as the plugs in the bathrooms are only for shavers. Are your teens boys or girls? If I'm correct on this point, will it matter to your family?

You're correct, the hair dryer plug is on the desk. The outlet in the bathroom is only for shavers.

There is no charge for the spa bathrooms. Technically they are for people using the spa or the gym, but I don't think they are really checking. I went in after working out on my last cruise, and the showers are very nice! They are bigger than the ones in the rooms, use the Elemis products, include some additional things like facial cleanser, and also have swabs, cotton pads, hair dryers, etc. Lockers are in there for use too.

Have you priced out a regular verandah room with an inside across the hall? We are doing that for our Alaska cruise and it is cheaper than having us all in a Deluxe verandah (plus we get two bathrooms, two queen beds, etc.
Yes, that's what I wanted (that's what we've done in the past) but no interior rooms are available. I thought about hanging tough to see if any opened 30 days out but then I may miss getting the family room that sleeps 5.

Or price out 2 regular connecting veranda rooms, as opposed to one "family" veranda.
Some times the price is close.

Enjoy

I think a lot depends on how efficiently those five people can shower and dress. A teenage girl would need to be willing to shower, then sit at the desk for hair and makeup so someone else can shower. And only you know if your family can do that.

I think we'll be fine with that part, none of us are primpers. My concern is space but looking at all the pictures I think we'll be fine. Honestly we're only in the room to sleep and everyone will have their own space (as small as it is) for that.

..... it was only $2k more to up to the family veranda and include both passengers ...

First what ship are you sailing?

Second. Please do price out two connecting "regular" veranda cabins. Cat 4e, 5, 6, some 7's (not all / warning).

You will have twice the baths, almost twice the beds, twice the TV's, etc. Perhaps twice the veranda space too. Potentially 5 times the veranda space if booking cat 4e's.

Do they have twice the tips too? No, it is based on pax count not rooms.
You could have 10 pax in one room, or 10 pax in 10 rooms, and the tips would be the same according to DCL requirements.

Completely doable! We've done it, and had no problems, so we are doing it again. We priced it every way, including 2 inside rooms(which was over $1000 more for our 2017 cruise) so we stuck to 1 room for 5.

My sister did this once with her family of 5. 3 boys ages 9 13 and 14. The last 2 cruises they booked adjoining insides. It definitely doable but not the most ideal situation.
