Are they upgradable to annual passes? Please tell me they are.

Yes.
But, since with DLR tickets you upgrade from the price you *paid*, you will lose the discount when you upgrade. Since you plan on upgrading it's probably not a big deal, but it's worth knowing about ahead of time.
