Hi,

We just came back from WDW. Thanks to everyone's input and advice on this board, we had a great time!! I just wanted to share how I was able to save 5% (maybe 6%) on ALL our dining. Since I did not have the dining plan, it was really important to me to save on our meals. Right now, there is a promotion to earn a 5% cash back bonus (I think this is in addition to the normal 1%). This is available until 11/30/05. Check the website for details and you must sign up to activate this bonus. They also have a regular restaurant card that always saves 5%, and also one for gas and home improvement.

I signed up for the Discover promotion before I went to WDW. When I ate at Chili's the charge was categorized as Restaurant. My restaurants charges at Disney, however, were categorized as "Travel/Entertainment" not restaurant, so I don't know if I will get the 5%.

Yeah, I thought this would be really great too. I even made a point of using our Discover Card directly instead of room charge paid with Discover Card at checkout.

Then I got my DC bill. Turns out Disney billed it all under "entertainment" instead of "dining out/restaurant", so no extra 5% cash back.

I just checked and called discover and they said that usually, restaurants in resorts and hotels fall under the travel category. They are trying to correct this error, but for now when I make a quick call to Discover, they are always happy to give me my extra 5%. It's an extra hassle, but worth my time.

Thanks! I'll call and ask. We used DC for all of our non-dining plan expenses, save a few F&WF booths where we just paid cash. It's not much, but every little bit helps!

Thanks lovetotravel, I'll give Discover Card a call when my statement arrives. ::MickeyMo

i usually call them even before my statement arrives and my account is credited. you can pull up your activity online and let them know which ones were supposed to be categorized as restaurants.

Another thing to be aware of is that there is a $500 limit on restaurant charges that will receive the 5% bonus.

I called to request my bonus after I received my statement. All my WDW restauarant charges were denied bc bonus does not apply to restaurants in theme parks. I hate Discover card!
