Hi all, 5 days to go to the big one to okw and free dining , 17 nights!!However i am in a quandry for all you members.
Here is the rub, I have been having a dull throbbing ache to the top of my right hand jaw, the problem so i thought was a rear molar whch has been root canal treated and crowned some 2 years ago.the sensation is probably more uncomfotable as opposed to painful.it's there all the timeDentist can not diagnose probem as yet, gave me some antibiotics thinking it was an infection, still the same, then he did all the bite tests and sensitivity tests and discovered the tooth next to it as the possible problem, has refilled that but still the problem exists.
i hate it when this happens!! My dentist has stated that i can wait in the hope that it settles down , still the same 4 weeks later. do i get the tooth extracted , going back tomorrow 4 days before i go, no guarantee this will cure the problem and consequenty lwill lose £500 with the crown/root canal and minus a rear molar or shall i put up with it ask for another course of antibiotics and grin and bear it in sunny disney. The more i think about the worse it gets, bumer!!! :confused3

I wish i had better advice for you but you definitely have my sympathies, its so unfair! I think if it was me (and i go in 10 days so i know the urgency) i wouldnt put myself through a tooth extraction a few days before a trip, in the past i have had 2 wisdom teeth out and it took a week for me to be able to eat properly on it, and the wound not to be a problem. I would be inclined to dose up on painkillers and roll with it.
HOWEVER I am not you and if it is seriously going to bother you through your trip then maybe its worth the chance. only you know how much pain you can take and walk through. I will send lots of pixiedust that it just naffs off for the next few weeks for you. and :hug:for your situation, poor you!

get it sorted, do you want to be in pain on holiday?
tooth ache is the worst thing ever,:flower3:
best wishes

I hope you are able to sort it out before you go.

I had a tooth extracted 2 weeks ago before my holiday and I am glad I didnt leave it too late as I ended up with dry socket which was more painful. So I would try and avoid an extraction this late if you can.

I would recommend getting some clove oil and cotton buds and dab it on the tooth you think it is as it helps a lot. I also took Nurofene quick response (I think they are called that) which worked really quickly.

Poor you, hope it eases as you dont want to fly let alone be on holiday with a problem.

Ooohh poor you, how awful! I pulled a filling out the day before I went away this year. I had to beg my dentist to fit me in that day which she eventually did (after every threat in the book!)

I hope whatever you decide gives you a pain-free holiday.

Very best wishes.

Hi Jono77

I have suffered with toothache/infections for a long time - went this year having just taken a course of anti=biotics and took a course with me.. which i ended up using. (was too chicken to get 2nd tooth out before we went - bad mistake!!) Flying seems to make it worse - i have a problem with my bones in my gums disintegrating so i get holes inbetween my teeth and my gums which get infected.

U can buy the best thing in the WHOLE world in the USA - its called KANKA GEL and can be bought in pen form with a brush on the end so you can get right to those hard to reach places at the back of your mouth!!
Its 20% anaesthetic - the only stuff you can get here is 1%!!!!!

IT is magic magic magic stuff!!

(4 years ago i was in New York and spent Sat night in casualty hoping they would remove my tooth the infection was soo bad - the nurse came out and gave me a piece of paper with Kanka Gel written on it and the name of some paracetamol tablets. It was gonna cost $600 dollars just to walk in the door:scared1:, let alone the cost of the treatment!! After putting loads of the gel on, I managed to eat and from a pain level of 10/10, the pain was down to a manageable 2/3 out of 10)

You can buy the stuff in any supermarket and over the counter - eventhough i have now had the second offending tooth removed, I always have some with me!

Dont let this spoil yr hols - easily solvd with Kanka gel (and i think i should be on commission!!)

I had a root canal done on a tooth about 15 years ago but the tooth carried on aching. It felt like the base of the tooth was being squeezed. I had no joy with the dentist, so changed to a new one who insisted on redoing the root canal at a cost of £150. I was so desperate that I had it done.

Unfortunately, that didn't cure the problem so I had the tooth taken out. The pain seemed to move into the next tooth so I was referred to a Dental Consultant who diagnosed neuralgia of the jaw and prescribed an antidepressant called Dothiepin. Apparently only this type of tablet works on the nerves.
I still occasionally get the aching but it's 90% better than it was.

I know this won't help you as you go in 5 days but it may be worth mentioning it to your dentist.
Hope you get it sorted and have a great holiday. :)

Sorry to hear about your dental problems but a word of warning, my wife needed dental treatment while we were in Orlando last year… the grand total was $950 and the insurance had a £250 limit on dental work. I know it doesn’t help with your decision for the best way forward, that's one for you to decide.

Should it be required the dentist was on Int Dr and was 24 hours...
7259 International Dr, Tel: 407-903-0320. You may want to take the details with you as it took me ages to find this one.

Gosh sounds like me before we went. I had root canal, two pulled..before we jetted off (a week before) wasn't too bad it felt 100 times better compared to the pain I was experiencing prior.
I definitely recommend getting it sorted..the pain is horrendous..

Hope you get it sorted and enjoy your holiday

Been to the dentist this morning and he has diagnosed the problem, well he is 90% sure! not the molar i thought it was, it's the one in front which he has opened up , half the tooth is dead. nice!!He has started a root canal treatment and dressed it up to relieve pressure and precribed me with a double dose of antibiotics 2 tablets at atime 4 times a day for 7 days, should clear up any infection that is present, sincerely hope so, can still have a beer according to the leaflet!!Just going to get on with it now and hopeful it will settle. Many thanks for your replies, flying out to mco on tuesday 1025hrs vs075:cool1:

can still have a beer according to the leaflet!!

Just a word of caution, if you have been prescribed Metronidazole (used widely for dental infections) please do not drink!! whilst most ab's have little side effects if you have a drink, Metronidazole will leave you feeling very poorly indeed  You can also give your mouth a rinse with a warm salt-water solution :)

Enjoy your holiday :goodvibes

Completely agree,do not drink on these antibiotics..they do warn you before hand.
I would invest in some Corsodyl Mouthwash, the dentist prescibed me some after I had teeth extracted...but warm salt water helps too.
