I am headed to Seattle with my wife in October ( just found out today ). She will be in business meetings all day, so I'll be by myself..... What should I see or do without her? We will have 1 day where she can go sightseeing, but for 5 days she will be busy until around 6 Pm - 7PM.

What should I save to see / do WITH her?

Thanks.

The EMP/SciFi museum is pretty awesome, even if you think you don't really like rock music or science fiction. Really, everyone I've ever taken always finds something to catch their interest. Your wife may or may not be interested in that.

A Duck Tour is always fun.

The Underground tour is pretty cheesy, but a good time.

I like the Aquarium, but it's a bit on the small side.

Will you have a car? The Museum of Flight is HUGE, and you (or at least the men in my family!) could spend a whole day there easily. It's not that far from downtown, but much easier if you have your own car.

Salumi is a must stop if you're a fan of cured meats, the food is tremendous. There's always a line, so either bring something to do, or go right when they open. http://www.salumicuredmeats.com/

I'll think it over, and see what else I can come up with.

Probably no car if there is decent public transportation.

That meat place is right up my ally! :thumbsup2

What do you like to do?

If it's general exploring, you could bus over to the University of Washington and explore campus. If it's a nice day, it's a nice walk through the center of campus. And if you are in the U-District you could walk around University Ave, and visit the Campus bookstore. It's one of the largest independent book store west of the Mississippi.

Along those lines, you could take a bus to the Fremont neighborhood. It's a very eclectic place....a troll under a bridge, a statue of Lenin, the "center of the universe." Lots of interesting shops.

Pike Place Market, and a walk along the waterfront. Ye Olde Curiosity Shop is not as crazy as it used to be, but still not your average tourist shop. Have lunch at Ivar's.

Woodland Park Zoo is an excellent zoo.

And if you like baseball, the Seattle Mariner's baseball stadium is a beautiful ball park. The Pyramid brewery's original location is across the street from the stadium.

And the last thing I thought of, was just ride one of the ferries from downtown Seattle, through the islands over to Bremerton and back.

What do I like to do?

Visit funky cool shops, especially if they are cooking related. I like sports. I like going off the beaten path. I absolutely love finding a place to eat like you would see on Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives.

We like farmers markets.

We would both enjoy a place to go dancing at night.

We like interesting book stores... and coffee. :)

We love scenic drives. We love anything with water... rivers, lakes, oceans.

And we like Pina Coladas, and getting caught in the rain. ;)

Have you ever been to Seattle? It sounds like you would be the type to get up there and not want to leave. :goodvibes Especially, in the summer. DH and I grew up in towns north of Seattle and both went to school at the UW. We left for job reasons in 2003. DH would go back in a heartbeat if he could, I miss it but not the weather 9 months out of the year.

I already mentioned Ivar's, either their fancier restaurants of their quick service fish & chips are both tasty. We get really bad Ivar's cravings and we end up getting it to eat at the airport on our way in and out of town. The other food we miss is a local burger chain called Dicks. You can't special order anything, and ketchup or tarter costs extra but it is comfort food, especially the fries. The easiest one to get to without a car is the Queen Anne location, near the Seattle Center. You could take the monorail from downtown and then walk over. That location doesn't have the best atmosphere, but there is indoor seating. We usually go to the one in Wallingford. http://www.ddir.com/Dicks_Drive_In_Restaurants/About_Us.html

There is a bus that would take you down the to Museum of Flight, if you're inclined!

The Pike Place market has some wonderful food and shops (there's a spice shop that is pretty cool), and is worth a look around.

This place http://www.bizzarroitaliancafe.com/ was just on DDD. I haven't been, but it looks kitchy and fun.

Hopemax... nope have never been there, but have heard it is nice except for all the rain.

Bekkiz, is that spice place called World Spice?

I think so, it's not technically in the market (although there is one--Market Spice), it's just below it.
